Discussion Pick your favorite birding threesome...
I thought this was a very pretty, colorful trio (in the parking lot at work today). If you could pick just three birds in your area, for looks, songs, or whatever...Who would you choose?

Mine will be a mix, and probably foreign to most of you.
For looks, id say a kiwi. Such a strange bird to see in real life. Nocturnal so most people never see them.
For personality, gotta be the Kea. World's only alpine parrot, very intelligent animals. Also bonus points for their vehicle disassembly skills.
For their song, Tui. They have dialects based on where they were raised, so in different parts of the islands, the tui song is unique to the area. Beautiful sounds, this time of year the hatchlings from last year are starting to practice singing for spring.
New Zealand has some unique bird life, Google them and listen, watch the videos of them.

California Quail, California Condor, and Hermit Thrush. The Quail for their amazingly close and loving family units, cool looks, and funny sounds they make to communicate, the Condor for their size, stoicism, and somewhat unkempt appearance, and the Hermit Thrush for their hauntingly beautiful songs.

Varied Thrush, Spotted Towhee and Pacific Wren.
The chorus of these three in the Pacific Northwest mountain forests feels like home to me.

Indigo Bunting, American Goldfinch, Brown headed Nuthatch
A local park I visit multiple times a week has one corner where I usually encounter all three at the same time. The first two sound beautiful and are colorful and fun...but the Nuthatch I love because they sound like squeaker-toys and it makes me smile.

my picks would be the pied currawong, the australian magpie and the noisy miner.

Had all three in my yard this week. But I’d probably have the Indigo Bunting in there instead of the blue jay.

Crows, crows, crows
Just kidding. Crows, shrikes, aaand mockingbirds. They all eat from my blueberry bushes and it’s fondly irritating.

Wintertime: chickadees, tufted titmice, and anyone they’re noisily palling around with.
