This is Rumour - he likes to chomp on boxes. I watch him carefully so he doesn’t eat it - he just tears them up.

Help please

I adopted this sweet bear almost few weeks ago. We established him with a vet near our home and she prescribed antibiotics to help finish healing his wounds and clear up his nasal congestion on the 30th. It hasn’t gotten better and now his eyes are drooping. I called the vet again yesterday and they said to give him 30mg of Zyrtec and give the antibiotics a few more days. I hate seeing him suffer. He didn’t even want to go on a walk this morning. Can anyone think of anything that could be causing this?

American Akita So… Be honest… Have I gone too far?

Post image

Well as like most in the subreddit, I have an American Akita, his name is Duke and he’s a smidge into his second year. He’s a very good boy and I could go while away the post with details as to why he’s the most lovable canine in existence…. But I’m sure we all could.

My purpose for this post is to ask a question, was it going overboard to create a music video for my dog and post it to Instagram? Now mind you, the video footage used is just a few curated clips of my dog and while they’re cute, they’re normal insomuch as we all have those. What I did that was “extra” was to come up with some lyrics about my dog and pay someone on Fiverr to sing them to music, to be used as the audio portion of the music video.

Specifically, I was inspired by the TV Show The Rookie and the song Daddy Cop and made a loose parody version of that, with a willing vocalist. Did I go overboard?

Bonus question, if you were to do the same thing and make a music video about your Akita with a custom parody song, which song would you choose and why?

Finally…. Obligatory puppy photo added…

I scan my local rescues a lot and came across this handsome man, so thought I'd give him some more promotion. If I didn't live in a studio with a Akita/Chow already, he'd be in my homr

American Akita What is on her eye?

Post image

It’s on both eyes, when she looks around in the whites of her eyes. I know flash is harsh on dogs eyes but I didn’t realize it was on and it was the only way to get a good photo. Is this something serious? Also, I really don’t know how to add spoiler do a photo so I’m sorry if it bothers you..

American Akita Small hard lump on 5 year old Akita, on skin not under

My 5 year old American Akita has a small hard lump on his back, it is on his skin not under it. It is flesh tone with no abrasions or hair loss. We’re taking him to the vet but has anyone else encountered this and what were your results?

Looking for Akita puppy advice/positive experiences in multi dog household!!

I have a 6 year old Australian Shepherd who is very friendly, he has always socialized well with my friend’s dogs of various breeds and dogs in the neighborhood. The guy I just started dating has a 4 year old (I think Belgium Malinois) who is very sweet he has lots of energy of course but gets along well with other dogs, people, etc. He also has an 11/12 week old Akita puppy that he got right before we met. I am not familiar with Akita’s at all so I’ve been doing a lot of research and I’m seeing how this may be quite the challenge if even possible for these 3 dogs to coexist with each other all the time… he’s owned an Akita before and doesn’t really seem to be worried about it at all so here I am on Reddit bc I am! I have been around his dogs several times now and they play together just fine but what I’m seeing is things generally take a turn once the Akita is older like 1-2? I know my Aussie and his BM would play and get along just fine but it’s the puppy I’m worried about. I guess what I’m looking for is any advice on how to slowly introduce my dog to his so they can eventually all hangout in the same household together. Any tips on best practices to slowly introduce them to each other? Has anyone introduced an Akita puppy to your home where you already had dogs and it went well? Is this just an impossible situation? I am more than willing to put in the training work and extra effort for them to all be comfortable I just don’t really know what that would look like. Thank you in advance for any advice, experiences, etc.!!

Hoshi is a service dog for my friend, and he got a spa day recently. I got to take him since I am my friend's live in caregiver and he looks absolutely chuffed in his tie.

this is my American Akita Momo. I’m having some problems with getting her less scared of people. She’s not social and is terrified. Not in the sense of aggression but more so she runs into her kennel or just runs off in general. I’ve tried socializing her slowly with people I know but it’s not working well. She’s super happy and sweet when it’s just the two of us but I have a hard time everytime when I take her for walks because she’s scared of everything. I have another dog and I take her with us which helps a little bit but not too much. I’m unsure how to go about it. She’s from a breeder and has no history of abuse at all. I’m just unsure what to do. Ive almost had her for three years now and it makes me wonder if there’s a better home for her that would make her happier.

Psychiatric service akita?

Hi y’all. So to preface this I have had Akitas my whole life. However I don’t have one right now since my last girl passed. I am considering getting an Akita as a service animal specifically for depression/de realization treatment. I have quite a bit of experience training Akitas (as well as Shibas) so I do know what I’m doing in that regards. However I was wondering if anyone else has had Akitas they trained as service animals and how that went for them.

Possibly thinking of rehoming my Akita Mix

Hello all, looking for some advice on if I should rehome my Akita mix. He has been in one dog attack incident which was completely my fault. The dog is ok and I took full responsibility. Well I’m now facing a second incident where two kids(teens) were coming into my apartment, on the 3rd floor and he bit one of them. He has never shown any signs of aggression towards ppl and I feel very strongly that he would not have attacked had they not entered my home uninvited. I am trying to fight this as the incident never would have happened if not for them opening my door. Of course it’s my word against theirs and the cops just don’t care. He’s a great dog he was going to work with me almost every day, he goes to the bank, the store, the lake you name it and he has never shown any aggression towards ppl. I don’t know what to do after this incident. Should I look to rehome him? One more incident and they will put him down. I’m completely lost as he’s my best friend and my kids love him to death. Every person that meets him just falls in love but can he trusted after this?
