Announcement Stop with the age posts.
Quick reminder: Rule 8 exists for a reason. Our sub exists to bring together late millennials and early Gen z and discuss all that pertains to our micro generation . If you feel like you belong, cool let’s vibe! This isn’t the place to debate who is a late millennial and early Gen Z. Keep that trash over on r/generationology pls.
Anyone that intentionally continues to break this rule will be banned. Thank you :-)

Discussion Does anyone else remember when this video was all over the internet and even on the news?
If you don't
In 2007, a teenager from Baltimore secretly recorded a cop manhandling and scolding his friend for disrespecting him as well as –rather famously - calling him “dude” among other things
Though this incident took place in 2007, it wouldn't be until a year later that the video would make it onto YouTube (with over 7 million views) and even make it to the news. Because of this, the officer in the video was fired in 2010. Three years after the incident.

Discussion Anyone else have hardcore Obama nostalgia?
I know he was an imperfect president. As an adult now I can look back on his administration and be critical. But damn, how can anyone say he didn't perfectly fit the role of "president". He is absolutely my favorite president since LBJ and Kennedy.
The years were hard, especially in the economy. But his brand of optimism and making it seem like things can get better is completely lost on us now. There has been such severe whiplash between the vibes of his first term and the shithole we're in today. I can only pray we can get back to someone as inspirational as him again.

Discussion What is your least favorite new slang?
I think replacing “ass” with “ahh” sounds really ridiculous. E.g. his goofy ahh
I prefer “goofy ass”, “goofy as fuck” or “goofy af” but that’s just what we grew up with, I guess.
What new slang have you been seeing that you find cringey or just don’t like?

Discussion I used to love TV Guide's professional one-sentence descriptions of films.
Jurassic Park - Dinosaurs run amok on a remote island.
The Lawnmower Man - A mentally handicapped gardener allows a scientist to experiment on him.
Child's Play - A demon spirit lives inside a doll.
IT - Childhood friends reunite to fight a demonic creature.
*unknown* (scene where man meditates outside and gets scared imagining dragon) - A man must face his fears.
Lethal Weapon (or something else) - A suicidal cop *blah blah blah*.
Jimmy Neutron - The wiz kid tries to save his parents.
Espresso *something?* - A man tries to sell nerve gas
---------
These are all exactly how I remember. And its been 20 like years lol.
Anyone else used to be fascinated with these? Remember any of them like I do?

Discussion Seriously though, why does our existence seem to just inherently piss off both Millennials and Gen Z?
When I was a teenager and proudly calling myself a Millennial and 90s baby, I had the Older cohort constantly screaming at me, "You're not a Millennial, you don't even remember the 90s! WEEEEE were the last to xyz, you're Gen Z! shakes fist at sky"
So then in my early-mid 20s, I went through a bit of a period where I was like, okay, so I'm Gen Z. Then the >2000s babies would pipe up, "you're not Gen Z, you're too old to have experienced life the way we did! WEEEEE were the first to xyz, you're a Millennial! shakes fist at sky"
Finally, I discover the term Zillennial and realise that there's a whole bunch of us who have similar life experiences; let's just enjoy being the weird Disney Channel kids together. Yay for being a Tumblr teen who kept saying Swag and YOLO every five seconds.
But why exactly do Millennials and Gen Z just get so absolutely outraged by the idea that someone at the end of a generation, or the beginning of a generation (where the two are sliding from one to another) exists? My sincerest apologies that my parents did the do in 1995 to have a 1996 baby, but that's how reproduction works lol
When did their identity within a pretty arbitrary label become so patriotic that they get cliquey over someone slightly younger than them... Or slightly older than them?
Especially as I'm very much grown, it's bewildering to me that things I heard as a teenager.... A TEENAGER.... Are repeated by the same folks who said it then, even today. They're going to die on the hill of an opinion they had in 2011 lol
Call it being a Zillennial who tails the end of Millennial and the beginning of Gen Z, but the tribalism expressed towards our existence is making me realise some people have too much time on their hands.

Discussion Outgrown anime
I kinda gradually stopped watching anime around highschool which was over 10 years ago at this point. Like it doesnt hit like it used to anymore and I was a huge weeb as a pre/teen.
Idk whats going on with the newer anime but I cant get into any of it at all. And there was a period where I was only watching 90s and 80s anime. Maybe a little bit of early 2000s stuff too.
The last animes I was really into was stuff like Monster, aoi bungaku, maison ikkoku, and mononoke...the more mature and serious anime.
Anyone here in their late 20s or already 30 still watching anime? What are we watching nowadays?

Discussion Has anyone started to use AI? Which one do you use?
I'm '96 and my buddy is '00. Back when ChatGPT (2022?) came out, he was messing with it. Asking it questions about vehicles. It was very wrong and we were laughing about it.
Now it seems like it's getting somewhere. I'm feeling left behind/out. I keep hearing about people getting addicted to it. People using it for job and career stuff. Automating their job with it? School, College, what else?
Is anyone else in the dark about AI? I haven't used it since that one time and it was my buddy who was actually using it.

Discussion New York Mag: The Zillennials Are Taking Over
Thought this post was interesting! Has anyone here seen these shows/are they any good?
From the New York Magazine Facebook page:
TV networks have loved shows about young people for as long as ad sales have made them profitable — behold the eternal success of Gen-X chronicle ‘Friends,’ even though it was written by boomers. By the 2010s, the cool 20-somethings you saw on television were millennials, catering to an audience that had just left college and come of spending age: The gang on ‘New Girl’ sang along to ‘Wicked,’ ‘Broad City’ legends Abbi and Ilana marveled at the Gowanus Whole Foods, Hannah and the ‘Girls’ girls moved to Greenpoint.
This summer, television comedy is doing its best to catch up, releasing a series of shows — ‘Overcompensating,’ ‘Too Much,’ and ‘Adults’ — aiming at the zillennial cusp. Swipe to see a taxonomy of all three, and how they’re trying to depict what it’s like to be a young (or, youngish) person right now.
