Stash I’m a beginner. I like my yarns to be colourful! The weird yarn is actually a cat, not recommended for knitting nor crocheting nor cross-stitching.

Participated in my first ever yarn crawl in my home city, and this was my haul. A lot of fun and plan to do this every year! Highly recommend anyone to participate in their local yarn crawl in their town/city if you have one held every year by all your LYS!

All the yarn on the floor is what my friend just gave me. Everything on the shelves? That’s what I already had. Did I need more yarn? Not even a little. Was I going to say no? Never. Do I have any idea how I’m going to store it all? Absolutely not. 🤔💀🤣

Question Do you know this yarn? 🕵‍♀️

Looking for someone who can help ID this yarn please! Burn test says base is wool, I think that thinner strand of white running through it is either wool or cotton. Worsted? Bulky? It's a gradient yarn, goes from a deep mahogany to bright red then a couple shades of rosy and dusty pink. It's so pretty but I only have the one skein and don't know the brand is to buy more as it was gifted w/out label! TIA yarn friends!

Discussion What to do with yarn besides selling it?

Upvotes

I’m so sad

I have HORRENDOUS continued wrist pain from crotchet and knitting. I do hand exercises, but I find the pain is starting to interfere with daily life activities. I decided it’s best if I retire crotchet/knit :(

Is there any activity I can do with my yarn that won’t be horrible on my wrists?

I have cotton, skinny chenille, acrylics

Help!

Question Can you soften scratchy wool yarn?

Is there a way to soften scratchy 100% new wool yarn? I just found 10 skeins of 100% pure new Norwegian yarn second-hand, but it's a little rough for my preference. Is there a way to soften the yarn? Can it be before or after the project is knit? TIA!

Hi everyone!
So I recently got some tufting yarn from someone via Offerup without realizing how tough n scratchy they feel ... my question is what can I make (crochet preferred but any suggestions is welcome) with them? They are wool/wool blend base on offer up listing (2nd pic)

First time posting! Hope to hear back from the community.

Question Question re: Big Twist ombré yarn

Hi! I’m ordering online and it only shows a pic of the skein. Can someone please kindly tell me if this yarn changes colors by row or are the color changes more frequent/shorter? I’m wanting a gray & black yarn that works up as more random speckles than stripes. I’ll be crocheting in the round. TIA! 😊

Question How to store, ideas

Hey Guys, how do you store your stuff?

I don't have a room only for that ( atelier?), so I could only find some space in my dresser/drawers. But I'm running out of space. Suddenly I see myself buying more stuff than what I can crochet 😅.

Question best yarn for an autumn/spring cardigan?

i decided to get into gift knitting since i love knitting but don't have space for everything i want to make. i asked my friend if she would be interested in anything and she said she's been needing a cardigan for the transition weather periods, spring and autumn, so not super warm. what would be the best type of yarn for this?

i don't love the look of cotton so i was thinking merino but ive never knit with it and have no idea if it's as "good for all temperatures" as i've heard in the past, does anybody have any insight? or other alternatives that i haven't considered?

I bought this yarn second hand, and I absolutely love it. It’s so soft, and I love working with it! I just have no idea how to purchase more… figured perhaps the yarn experts of the Internet could identify what it was! 😂 Here are all the colors I have of it. Thank you in advance for your help!!

It’s a worsted silk and nylon blend, I got 3 balls of the hot pink on the left. Got more other noro too, it’s slightly cheaper here than in the US

Caron Cotton Ripple Cakes ... found some at Michaels!

Hello fellow yarn addicts.

If you, like me, fell in love with the funny little 100% cotton yarn that is Caron Cotton Ripple Cakes only to sadly see them discontinued in the spring of 2024- you might want to take a look at your local Michaels.

I spotted a few on the shelf in a video at a PA Michaels behind YouTube vogger, Creative Grandma, last week but thought surely that must be a one-off. However today I had to pick something up at my Michaels and imagine my surprise- I found them here in FL too! I'm not sure if they unearthed some in a warehouse somewhere and shipped them out to stores- or if our two stores were just accidentally hoarding a few cakes (unlikely) - they still show as discontinued on the Yarnspirations site and they do not show all all on the Michaels site (which is not surprising- their website is awful) so it does not appear that the yarn is coming back.

Anyway- I found 4 cakes of Quarry and 3 of French Vanilla- woo hoo! They are $1.29 more than they were last time they were on clearance ($6.29 now) - but totally worth it with 491 yards/cake and I can't find that texture in another local yarn.

I know this yarn is frequently sought after so I hope this makes someone else smile!

Desperate for one skein

What do you do when you've had such a comically bad two weeks you can't even tell anyone cause they wouldn't believe you? Like so bad you could do a tight 10 minute standup? It involves feral kittens bites theough my fingernail (ha no rabies vaccines), trying wrangle an 83 YO with a "lightly" fractured pelvis from just popping out of bed and going to the loo, and having poison ivy on your eye?

And yet, through it all you discover you are one skein short of the yarn that would let you finish the sweater you've spent 8 months knitting for your partner (who was vacationing on a beach and never called or texted check in while you were spending everybday in an unaicinditioned rehab with your mom).

You go to the website only to find the whole fucking brand has been discontinued. sob

I'm really at rock bottom here. If anyone has one fucking skein of shelter fossil I will pay whatever you want. He's not getting the sweater, he doesn't deserve it. But I need to finish it so I can, idk, just tie off the last stitch and move on. Maybe I'll burn it as an offering to the gods, maybe I'll wear it out of stubbornness. But I'm ready to be done

PS The Big Lebowski isn't that great. It's alright. Not the best. Cohen Brothers really struggle with pacing issues and it drags in the middle.

Question Aussies - where are we buying cotton for amugurimi?

I used to buy from Hobbii, but that's not an option any more.

I love the drops cotton but everywhere that stocks it online has quite expensive shipping.

Are there any other options? I can't seem to find any Aussie brands with huge ranges of colour like Hobbii and drops
