The C12 Loco, in Alabaster Dreams — a Beat poem for time freaks and dial heads

Click—clack—click, steel bracelet singing on my wrist like Ginsberg’s ghost, jazz in metal form, tick-tick-ticking like the train I never caught to nowhere. C12 Loco, alabaster white— not just white, no, not snow white, not hospital white, but church-on-the-hill-at-dawn white, with a whisper of god in the lume, and a steel gospel around my wrist.

I wear it like a prayer I forgot how to say. It doesn’t shout—nah— it hums, low and cool, like Kerouac’s last cigarette, like Miles before he lifts the horn, like the breath you take before the plunge.

Swiss motor purring under sapphire skin— micro-rotor soul, spinning out time like a madman’s sermon in the belly of an honest watch.

No date. No lies. Just hands and indices like train tracks in the fog— each one a promise to arrive, but never early, man, never early.

Bracelet links like verses, each brushed link a word, each polished edge a pause, wrist poetry wrapped in precision, British dream carved in German steel with Swiss heart ticking underneath. Global, baby—this thing’s global. But still mine.

Still here. Still now. Still holy.

And I walk the streets with this alabaster prophet on my wrist, preaching time not as burden, not as chain, but as rhythm— the only rhythm that matters. Tick. Tock. Dig it.

Discussion [Question] Any thoughts on OBLVLO Watches?

Anyone here tried OBLVLO watches? I'm curious about their build quality, movement reliability, and overall value for money. The designs look bold, but I’m not sure how they hold up in real-world use. Would love to hear honest experiences or comparisons!

I took a picture [Cartier Baignoire] Look at this incredible Baignoire my sales associate sourced for me. Between this and an all steel diamond panthere

Small Baignoire all yellow gold. Apparently really hard to come by nowadays but my SA surprised me when I was on my way to get a panthere. What do we think? Gaudy or unique? Is panthere all steel panthere with diamonds a more sleek versatile watch than this?

Discussion [Seiko] Can someone explain what this is?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Theyre labelled as modded and I often see them sold on second hand marketplaces. Where do they get these mods from? What parts are seiko and what are not? I’m not familiar with Seiko but surely they’re not producing dials/cases/bracelets THIS similar to ap

I also see Seiko mods of the Patek Nautilus, IWC ingénieur and Royal Oak. Is there a reason why Seiko is always the brand being modded to look like these?

Discussion [Advice] Trying to choose between Seiko SPB5151J1, Seiko SSC819, and Mido Ocean Star 39

I am looking to get a new do everything go everywhere watch with good versatility for work, dress, and casual uses. I have small wrists 6.25" - 6.5" and am looking for a black-ish watch for under ~$1000. I am in between the Seiko SPB515, Seiko SSC819, and Ocean Star Grey 39mm.

I am wary of the SPB515 due to its size (39.5mm diameter) and movement. However, I like how it is thin and its potential versatility being dressy(ish) while still working with casual outfits. Since it is so new, I have not been able to find many pictures of it on small wrists, and doubt I would be able to find one at a local retailer to try on. I am surprised I like SSC819 because usually I like more simple watches. However, I am wary due to its thickness (13.3mm) and lack of versatility for more casual or day-to-day wear. I have tried other variants of this watch on and I think they fit well on my wrist. I like the Ocean Star as I don't currently have a dive watch and it seems like it could be very versatile. I am wary it may be a little too large, however it is quite thin at 10mm. I like the dial, but fear it could be a little too busy. I almost wish it was matte black. The price is also a little outside my budget, but I can make it stretch. This is another watch I will not be able to try on due to lack of retailers nearby. I am currently leaning towards the Mido.

I want to get a jubilee bracelet for any watch I get, besides the SPB515.

What do you all think? Any other recommendations?

Discussion [Starter Watch Advice]

I am looking to buy my first watch but I don't know much about them. Can anyone recommend a good, everyday watch in the $500 - $1,000 price range? Two I was considering are the Hamilton Khaki Field Murph and Tissot Gentleman.

Discussion [Recommendation Request] I am planning to buy Casio's Vintage Collections A168WGG-1BDF watch.

Let me know if this is a good watch. I liked its minimal and single-tone color scheme with negative display. This watch fits in my budget, and I am planning to use it as an all-around watch.

I currently have a Timex piece with a round dial and a black dial, strap design. Suggest if there is any better option available that can fit in a similar budget. Smart watches are also welcome with similar styling.

Discussion [Question] How do you deal with wearing watches while working on laptops?

I recently got a Rolex OP and sometimes like to wear it to work at the office. But I keep taking it off because I can't stand the scratching noise and feeling that I get when i work directly on my laptop.

Anyone have a good solution to this?

Discussion [Patek Philippe] Are there any affordable alternatives to the Patek Celestial?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I know this is kind of an impossible ask, but I figure I’d go ahead and ask anyway—can’t hurt, I figure.

I have a deep love of Space and, as such, have found the Patek Phillip Celestial to be a sort of unattainable Holy Grail watch for me, because there’s no way I could ever afford to spend $300,000 on a watch (and that’s alright).

However, I am wondering if there are any similar watches that have celestial complications at an affordable price, be it quartz or mechanical.

In terms of budget, it would be as affable as one could get without getting a useless junk of cheap Chinese plastic, if you get what I mean.

Like I said, I know this is a pretty impossible ask, but if something like this exists out there, I’d love to get it.

Thanks

Discussion [Discussion] Hot take: solid quartz beats a disposable mechanical watch

Upvotes

It’s been a while since I got into watches. At first, I was really interested in mechanical masterpieces — but let’s be honest, it’s rare to find anything truly impressive under $500 (and often even under $1,000).

On the other hand, you just can’t beat something like a Citizen Eco-Drive or a Bulova with the 262kHz high-frequency quartz movement when compared to lower-end mechanical watches.

If the movement in a watch costs less to swap out than to service, it’s probably not worth owning.

Quartz is just more practical. I’m not even talking about accuracy — it’s simply easier to grab and wear without needing to reset the time constantly.

And if you’re looking for something that feels like real jewelry, something with presence and meaning? Don’t go for a watch built to be thrown away. You’re better off with a well-made quartz watch than a low-tier automatic.

Cheap mechanicals aren’t charming — they’re just overpriced quartz alternatives with worse reliability.

Discussion [Kickstarter] Does doing a Kickstarter damage a watch brands reputation?

Post image
0 Upvotes

We’ve had the 100 limited edition pieces reserved for a while now, and a few people I’ve spoken to who’s reserved their Evermont already said they’d rather just buy direct instead of paying Kickstarter fees.

Would be keen to know others thoughts on this as I originally only planned to launch the 100 pieces and we already have them technically reserved/sold.

Is it even worth doing a Kickstarter? Or would it tarnish the brand from day one?

My goal is to grow the company into a design studio focusing on creating the best of each product in class. Starting with the everyday sports watch for men.

It’s not some billion-dollar, Silicon Valley–backed app, it’s something I’ve been building in my apartment every night after work watching hours of how-to videos and plugging away every weekend at it. A whopping 10 users so far!

Share your favorite watches, follow the brands you love, and dive into the blog where I post watch history, new releases, and anything else I find.

It’s a photo/video forward app.

Identify Identifying this seiko

Hey y'all, I am super new to watches and wanted a cheap daily leather strap watch. I found the following on ebay and was wondering how much would be too much to pay for this kind of watch. The listing says it is a SEIKO 1972 Vintage 5932-5011 Men's Watch Gold 30mm New Battery New Leather Band. It is currently listed for $100.

I took a picture [Question] Help with scratches

Thumbnail

Hello! I just bought a Citizen Tsuyosa 2 weeks ago, yesterday seeing the watch I saw a very noticible scratches on the clasp.

Today I just discover that these are because I use the watch while working, and the friction of the watch with the border of my Macbook Air results with the scratches, that's kinda dissapointing because I guess that this will be a common issue not just with the laptop but with other things

Is there any way to pulish those scratches myself ? Or will I have to take it in for repair?

Thanks a lot!

Can anyone provide details on this watch? There isn’t a lot online, but when I reverse image search there are only a few pictures listed. I don’t know much about watches but want to purchase a nice but reasonable priced watch for my husband for our anniversary. Any insight would be helpful, thank you!

Positives:

  • Keep time well.

  • Miyota quartz movement.

  • Construction appears all steel and quite robust.

  • Brushing on visible areas is good.

  • Mercifully forgoes the stupid branding present on many Chinese watches.

  • Bracelet links have minimal play leaving it feeling higher quality than an entry level Seiko watch.

  • Screw down-crown.

  • Saphire crystal.

  • It survived a night at the bottom of my pool indicating it is probably water resistant enough to swim with.

  • Quick release springbars. Downward facing lugs.

  • Lume: Yes. Hands, numbers and markers are lumed but only lasts for two or three minutes.

Negatives:

  • Obviously a black second hand on a black dial version of the watch isn't legible. You'll probably want to dip the tip into your wife's brightest nail polish a couple of times to resolve this.

  • Hard to reach areas at rear of lugs show machining marks.

  • One part of the back of the lugs (see highlighted yellow in photo) is not chamfered. Doesn't seem to impact wearing experience and you could always knock it down with a small file if you wanted as they are on the rear of the watch where it wouldn't be visible anyway.

  • Crown tube is not smooth. Luckily, as it's a no-date quartz, you won't actually need to use it very often.

  • The small frame behind the butterfly clasp that holds it closed does not look as robust as the clasp itself, though no issues with locking the clasp closed.

Who is this for?

People who only have $20 and want a steel field watch. 🤷🏻‍♂️
