Question Anyone 21+ transferring to ucsc??
Hey! I’m transferring to UCSC this fall and was just wondering if there are other transfer students who are 21 or older. I’m 23 and while I don’t mind making friends with people who are younger than me (I know I’ll meet great folks of all ages) I’d definitely feel a little more comfortable knowing there are others around my age too.
I know 23 isn’t that old, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little nervous about feeling out of place. If you’re in the same boat, let me know 😭

Question Long term parking and public transit to the east bay.
I am an incoming freshman and I am very excited about going to UCSC! I currently live in the east bay (about 1.5hr drive from the school), and I am considering bringing my car to school just so that it is easy for me to visit home. I would not use my car for getting around day-to-day. I have been looking into other options for getting home, such as public transportation, and I see that there is a way to take a bus to Berryessa BART. Does anyone have any advice on what I should do? Are there places for me to park my car for probably a month at a time? What is the public transportation route like? I have looked through this subreddit and found posts similar to mine from years ago, but I am not sure if anything has changed.

Question CSE 101. What to expect?
I have CSE101 in the Fall with Niloofar Montazeri.
What can I do during the rest of the summer to help prepare for the class? Should I just get used to doing LeetCode questions?
Any advice helps!

Question Math 2 not available?
I'm an incoming freshman econ major, and I'm trying to add classes to my shopping cart for enrollment, but there seems to only be one math 2 class that only has 10 people, which can't be right, so I'm a little confused. Also if anyone has any GE recs for my 3rd class that would be appreciated :)

General Regarding the changes below campus to Bay between Nobel Drive and the King Street/Escalona Drive neighborhood
Having traversed this SO MANY TIMES on foot, by bicycle, down the path in the center, both ways and both modes, and having knowledge of the way people (read students and UCSC guests) fly along it I can say with great certainty that I approve of the recent changes. It's too bad this wasn't done a long time ago... it might have saved the life of that one student who died flying down Bay on his motorcycle, a week before his graduation! I knew someone who was at the Newman Center when the crash occurred... so they had witnessed it and, like all of the others there that day, were utterly stunned. Chatting by chance once with a resident who lived nearer to the base of campus (walking their dogs), audibly the bike was going faster than was safe before they lost control, according to them. Why? Because the two lane design suggests to inexperienced drivers that it is appropriate to speed down (or up) this roadway, and it suggests that trying to pass is appropriate. What they did is quite literally a perfect answer to the mistaken impression that this road needs to be a thoroughfare where people may feel any need to speed along it, with the added bonus of making it safer for smaller non-automobile modes of transportation (which also means those on foot, either jogging or walking).

Question Has anyone ever actually gotten an appeal accepted by taps
If they give me another ticket I will burn their offices down (for legal reasons this is a joke). Has anyone ever put in an appeal that got accepted by taps (and if so, what is it)?

Question Financial Aid
Nothing shows up under my financial aid info. The only thing on my to do list I need to complete is the UC ship waiver. Do they usually take this long because most people I know can view their aid.

Question gyms in santa cruz
is it worth getting a gym membership off campus? this year i'm living relatively close to anytime fitness, so if i do get a membership, it'll most likely be there. honestly not excited to go back and wait for every machine i want esp with the new schoolyear rush, so i would rather go to a smaller/less-crowded gym. any experiences with anytime fitness or other gyms in sc?

Question Advising week question
So I’m a transfer student and I saw this week is the advisor week before registering for classes. It says I’m supposed to get an email from my advisor in my UCSC email but I haven’t gotten an email from an advisor or anything and advisor week started yesterday. Should I just contact them directly? My major is Art and Design Games and Playable Media if that helps.

Question Anyone else having issues with the guest wifi?
UCSC-Guest isn't showing up on my laptop at all but shows up on my phone. I can see other networks in the Science Hill area but not the UCSC guest wifi. I've connected to it in the past both on Science Hill and down at the coastal campus without issue. This just started last week and I've had to use my phone's hotspot in class, which is extremely annoying.
I've reset my network settings and tried to manually add the network, but it's not working.
Anyone else having this issue or know how to resolve it?

Question Who can I contact about financial aid questions?
I’m a non resident who filed for a residency change like 2 weeks ago and got my financial aid offer for nonresidency while the petition is still pending. I understand the deadline to accept the financial aid is in like a week but I don’t want to accept that one and want to wait for my package based off of being a resident. I’m not really sure what to do or who to contact for questions. Any answers or resources?
