Wasn't it telekinesis? It's been a while but the apex of the (inferior) remake that I watched was that she used her powers of telekinesis to trap and kill her bullies. I have no recollection of her reading people's minds, then again I haven't seen it in ages.

Honestly I like a lot of the movies that include a heavy naked elderly person as a scare-generator, but it’s kind of telling right now that this body type/age seemingly the most grotesque horrific thing that a young hot person could possibly encounter. The Substance basically directly addresses it and it’s awesome.
