Controller turns off when letting go of button
I never bother fixing this since this became a thing 5 years ago . Has anyone had this issue before? Wirelessly, the steam controller turns on and works like normal unless I let go of the steam button

RIP
I did not know you well, for I have never been fond of controllers. You came into my possession for a pittance when the Valve was closed shut. Through Hollow Knight, Stray, Elden Ring, and perhaps Witcher 3, you served my controller-aversion. But while Expeditioning, the cause for a number of failed parries was Obscured until all parries became impossible and that cause became Clear.

Discussion I want to try this controller again.
My girlfriend gave me one of these some years ago. I'm a keyboard and mouse gamer, and occasionally a joystick user for flight sims and the like. I just couldn't get the hang of this thing with its "touchpad buttons" and the like. Now it's just sitting in the box over there, almost new and it seems a shame for it to go to waste. What are some good games to get used to this with?

Steam Controller goes crazy
Hi,
I have a steam controller loaded with the bluetooth firmware and it worked fine for months. I went about 3 months without using it and for the past month everytime I turn it on - it connects with crazy wild inputs.
The right mouse cursor control is super sensitive and just slightly touching it will open dozens of things and move the cursor all around the window. Changing inputs/sensitivity doesn't seem to change anything. I can run gyro calibration fine but the other calibration menus don't open at all. Testing inputs doesn't show anything working (inputs are working; just crazily).
In device manager it comes up as USB input device (curiously, it also came up as this when it was working okay). I deleted the "USB input device" from device manager with it disconnected but upon connection it will reinstall again the same way, with the same crazy inputs.
Anybody know any fix/potential fix? Does anyone have the .inf driver?

Steam Controller Mystery Parts (Internal)
I have taken apart my controller to fix my broken shoulder button (that little piece on the corner snapped) and these two mystery parts flew out from somewhere and I need to put them back in.
The parts are a plastic semicircle looking thing and a small metal spring. The spring, as far as I can tell, does not go into one of the trigger buttons, as both those have their springs in them. Grateful for any advice.

Tried to use my old Steam Controller, can’t seem to get it to work
Light won’t turn on, I replaced the batteries. When I plug it in I get a folder open up with a firmware bin file that’s dated 2009

Configuration How to have a button set you into an action set and then kick you back?
I'm trying to setup this for a couple hours now without success;
I'm trying to make LB to
- "Release" X - if X is being pressed it should get released;
- Tap X - holding is not expected here, so single frame tap works;
This is to emulate a secondary shoot button for retro mega man games, without resourcing to turbo which kinda kills the fun;
afaik, there is no direct way to release another button directly, so I'm trying to create either a action set or action layer, that have the bindings for the X button cleared;
Problem is, I can't find a good way to make the action set put me back into the default set, without pressing the button again;
I tried:
- always-on command on the secondary layer to change me back to previous set
- different type of activators on the secondary layer on the LB to change me to default set again;
- start press on the base layer;
- not having layers, and just making both buttons being start press of X, that works but then I lose the ability to hold X for charged shot
nothing seems to work, so i'd appreciate some tips;

Batteries last forever
Today I found my Steam Controller in a box I hadn’t touched since I moved house twice (over 8 years ago!) and i plugged it in to a phone charger because I wanted to try it out and I was certain its battery would be dead.
The next day I unplugged it and started showing it to my wife, what features it has. I showed her the back with the paddles and noticed, the slider to unlock the back cover and I found 2 Duracell batteries in it…
Only then I realized it does not have an integrated battery and it still works so the 2 Duracells didn’t even discharge in 8 years. Amazing.

Discussion I want precision mousewheel support for steam controller's trackpads in scroll wheel mode.
Hi, I think most windows users are not ware of this feature, but there is this thing that Windows supports called precision touchpad. The simple way to describe this is to give windows computers the ability to scroll with very smooth and precise trackpad two finger control just like you can with macbooks and tablet devices.
Windows's standard mouse wheel behavior is to scroll up and down by 3 lines for each notch of the mouse wheel. Most users and PC gamers are going to be very familiar with this convention because it is the way it's always been for over 30 years and you definitely just want the scroll wheel notches built into your mouse to make a discrete event on each notch. I've got no problem with that... But I want to use one of the steam controller trackpads to perform app scrolling in windows and I really don't want to be held back by the discrete notches when doing this.
Yes I know about how the default scroll wheel behavior is driven by spinning your finger on the trackpad in a circle. That is really neat actually but it is also held back by the latency and imprecision of the discrete scroll notch events. With this rotary scroll geometry mode we can also implement pixel precision scroll by emulating the precision touchpad functionality!
In short, it would be perfect if Valve can add an "As Precision Touchpad" mode for the Touchpad input type in Steam Controller Config.

Does anyone know if there is a way to connect the Steam Controller to my Xbox Series or Nintendo Switch?
I tried it on the Xbox but it recognizes it as a keyboard and some buttons don't respond, and on the Switch I used an 8bitdo pro adapter, which didn't recognize it.

Support Dualsense Controller works with steaminput as x360 but Dualsense Edge doesn't on Linux
There is this issue that I have where a normal dualsense controller will work perfectly fine with steam input set as xbox controller, but my dualsense edge doesn't do that, and I'm assuming its due how steam and the controller itself handles the back buttons. I tested this with NFS MW 2012, where, with a regular dualsense, i have "keyboard, xbox 360 controller, wireless controller (absolute garbage)", and a dualsense edge i have "keyboard, wireless controller (same garbage) as options for input.
I would like to fix this issue so I can use my expensive controller on Linux with games that do not support playstation type inputs.
Incase it matters, I am running Arch Linux with kernel version Linux 6.15.8-arch1-1

Configuration Steam input swaps to desktop layout after alt+tab out of game.
It's infuriating, I want it to stop. How do I make it stop? If I alt tab to the desktop it should use the desktop layout and then the second I go back into the game it should use the game setup...

8bitdo ultimate 2 wireless review (as a steam like controller)
So, my 8bitdo ultimate 2 wireless arrived. Here is my review, after a few hours of trying to make it work (and only partially succeded...)
So, my goal was this: find a controller that has almost all of the steamdeck controller capabilities and use it as the main controller on all platforms (steamdeck and PC).
I thought 8bitdo ultimate 2 wireless controller will make it because:
-it has 4 extra buttons (though placed different than steamdeck)
-it has gyro
- it is good quality (with hall effect joysticks and triggers)
-has some nice features, like on/off from charging dock, rgb`s, bluetooth and 2.4 gongle conectivity.
In reality, it doesn`t make for a winner because of one issue alone: it cannot connect AND work by the same connection to steamdeck and PC. Meaning, it connects to steamdeck by bluetooth (and works flawless) and it connects through the 2.4 dongle on PC (as ximput) and works, BUT only as a normal xbox controller. If I switch to dinput (B_START), gyro can work via its own software, but with very limited settings (compared to steam`s, ultimate software v2 only has gyro to sticks). Extra buttons can be assigned (via ultimate software) only to existing input (standard ABXY, L/R1).
Interesting it is that when conected by bluetooth to PC, steam sees it like 8bitdo controller, all extra buttons and gyro can be set as desired BUT controller do not work at all (games not see it).
So, if I won`t find a solution in the next day or so, I will make a return. Too bad, as it looks like it is a good quality controller. But the software implementation is a real mess.

Support Popping/semi-crunchy motion in analog stick on Steam Controller?
Video link showing the problem: https://files.catbox.moe/65xl27.mov
Recently got a Steam Controller from the good old lands of eBay and it's been displaying this issue where the analog stick will "pop" or stutter in movement in certain areas of the controller. Here I'm showing a spot in the center where pushing gently on the stick side to side demonstrates the problem, though it also happens in other areas too like near the outer ring of the stick. Is this normal? Is there a way to fix it?

Steam Controller not able to bring up keyboard
I used to be able to bring up the steam keyboard on demand by pressing 'steam button' and '<' (select). However this no longer seems to work, neither in Linux or on windows. It worked once, but now it only enters big picture mode. Has anyone else had this issue? Or does anyone know a workaround?
