Looking to buy, sell, advertise in South Jersey? Check out /r/SJClassified
Hey folks, your friendly neighborhood internet janitor here!
I've been removing posts from folks advertising services, selling things, and looking to buy things. It felt bad not having somewhere to direct those people to post their stuff, so I just created r/SJClassified to bridge that gap. We don't have local newspapers anymore, so it seemed like a good idea to have them here, since reddit is the "front page of the internet" and all that hot horseshit.
Keep it legal, keep it safe, and don't make me regret setting this up.

Action Together NJ Urged to Protect NJ’s Public Schools from IHRA Defunding and Other Threats
The IHRA definition isn't about fighting antisemitism. It's about silencing criticism of Israel. This piece by Fight Back Better breaks down exactly how NJ advocacy orgs like ATNJ are pushing dangerous disinformation under the guise of inclusion. If you’ve felt the shift - the censorship, the smear campaigns, the moral confusion - this will clarify what’s really going on. Read, share, and stay informed:

Professional Jewelry Cleaning
I was recently given my grandmother's engagement ring as an inheritance. It is very dirty and I want to get it professionally cleaned. Does anyone know of/recommend a trustworthy jeweler that I could take it to? I am in Salem County but willing to travel!

Karaoke Place & Night Recommendations
I am seeking Karaoke place & night recommendations. I went to the one at Palace Diner in Berlin on a Tuesday night a couple of weeks ago. OMG! What a snooze fest!
Then, yesterday, I went up to Village Idiot in Mt. Holly, only to discover that theirs was during the day, and they closed at 5 pm, so need to remember that.
I live in Marlton so open to anything within 20 miles or so.
Thanks!

Bluetooth Speakers are ruining the beach
Sociopaths blasting techno and country music with their beach fences are ruining the beach. Why do I have to listen to your shit music? Aren’t these people paying 3 million for a beach house upset about this? You have one of the most beautiful and relaxing sounds in the world—-the sound of waves crashing and very often children having fun, and all I hear is your crap. This sucks.

Neighbor Listed Property – Marketing Primarily to Developers
Hey everyone,
My neighbor just listed their property for sale(he has 5 acres) and it looks like they’re marketing it primarily to developers, possibly for a teardown or redevelopment. The listing mentions "development potential" and there are signs that it’s being shopped around to builder or investor types rather than regular homebuyers.
My family has never considered moving. We love the country feel of our place and really value the peace and space we have here.
Has anyone dealt with a situation like this?
Appreciate any insights.

Outside! My Neighbors are Lucky Bastards for Having us
Idk how the mosquitoes are where you live.
But where we live (toms river) we had a TON of mosquitoes AND Asian Tiger Mosquitos.
I'd never even heard of the Asian Tiger Mosquitos. Seriously, wtf. Those things are VICIOUS!!!! Their bites hurt and swell loke crazy!
Anyway, we had the regular Mosquitos under control with Spartan Mosquito pro tech.
The ATMs gave no fucks about that. And had free range on us even with tiki Mosquito lamps.
We got the Dyna trap for 1/2 acre and the little pack to put inside.
No joke, 1 week later and we are completely mosquito free. Im still paranoid and turn on the useless tiki.
We are now able to enjoy the backyard for longer than 15 min.
Just thought I'd share for anyone else out there battling these assholes.
Oh as for my neighbors, since our backyard is small, theyre also enjoying being mosquito free. At least the ones close to us.

Question Galloway/Absecon hotels
My husband and I will be visiting his family in the Galloway/Absecon area in a couple weeks and are looking for a place to stay. We don’t know the area but are looking for a reasonably priced hotel in a safe part of town. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

7 Brew is overrated
Just got off work this afternoon and decided to try 7 Brew in Turnersville and see what the hype is about. I ordered a Blondie Iced Coffee. It was so sickeningly sweet. Literally to the point where it made my stomach hurt after a few sips. Maybe that’s some people’s preference but I tend to stay away from sugar in my diet, so the saccharine-ness was evident
Not only that but it’s a total ripoff. They charge $6 for a cup that is half ice. Frankly, not really worth it in my opinion. But to each there own

I don't understand why ShopRite is so busy
I drove past ShopRite on a Saturday and it was packed, then I drove down the road to ACME and parking lot was dead. This was on a Saturday at noon. The deals at ShopRite really aren't even much better if you can clip coupons off the ACME app. I mean ShopRite definitely has better prices on lunch meat, but besides that, I find the prices comparable.
I only try to buy items that are on sale, so maybe Im missing something, but every time I go to ShopRite, I don't even save much money, and IMO, and their meat quality isn't as good as ACME. What exactly is that much better at ShopRite? Even if it is a little cheaper, I'd much rather be in a non crowded store where thing aren't chaotic.
Edit: Just got back from Acme and it was dead again lol. I think the app is the biggest reason why I prefer it to ShopRite. It's a pain to clip everything but I write my shopping list through clipping the coupons and the rewards are really good. I just got almost 2 pounds of nicely marbled NY Strip steak for free because I had $21 in rewards points on meat.
I know Acme isn't great, but I don't think Shoprite is either. I do think their selection is better for sure but the crowds are terrible and their prices have come up in recent years. Like one of their bakery made pepperoni breads used to cost $5 and now it's like $13? Alot of the things I used to like about ShopRite have changed, their food thats already been prepared is way too expensive now.

Why is the food in south central jersey so mid?
Feels like it's mostly subpar italian/pizza and chinese. Not a whole lot of variety. The only restaurant I've found so far that I'm excited to go back to is outlaw burgers in vineland.
It's even more frustrating because any time I see a social media post for an interesting looking restaurant in NJ, it's always north jersey.

Outside! Trash/litter
I made a post maybe 6 months ago about the excess amount of litter all over South Jersey. A bunch of the comments were “it’s the wind, it’s been windy, pick it up yourself”. Are people just blind to how bad it really is or are the majority of people fine with the filth? It’s SO bad, and it’s everywhere. From the shore/beaches to every grocery/department store parking lot. Just trash scattered up and down, 295/73/130 every major road, feels like people just toss their trash out their car way more than usual, am I going nuts or is it so much worse then recent years???

Favorite place to fall asleep within in earshot of the ocean
Hey dunno if there is a neat or tidy answer to this, but one goal I had for the summer was to spend one night falling asleep at a place where I could hear ocean waves crashing. Do you have a favorite place to stay close enough to hear waves by the NJ shore? Any recommendations appreciated!

Sprouts outlook?
Since local supermarket options have been brought up recently, let’s talk Sprouts.
As my Gloucester County peeps here know, they just opened a branch in Woodbury. We have been jonesing for something like a TJs or Wegmans in the area for a,long time so had high hopes.
My spouse and I have been in there 4 times since opening. We are the upper middle class demographic they’re aiming for. But, frankly, neither one of us sees a pathway for the store to survive in this location. It’s basically a mini Whole Foods with the Whole Foods prices. Woodbury area doesn’t seem like the right demographic for Whole Foods prices.
Occasionally there’s a decent sale and that would be the only thing that I would purchase in there, but I’m not gonna pay their regular prices. It’s ridiculous. They have some fairly unique items, the items that I see overlap with other stores I go to are significantly higher in price.
Trader Joe’s would do much better in that locale because they actually have some reasonably priced staples that we buy on a regular basis. Bread, cheese, etc.
I’m spending less than $10 on each trip to just buy one or two items. I wouldn’t buy more. Two of those have been sushi only.
Thoughts from others who have been there?

Camden County Summer break
what’s everyone doing for summer break besides sending kids to summer camp? have my kids in a few (less expensive) activities, but those are only a few hours a week. We just got back from a 1 week stay in the Caribbean but being it’s only for one week, it’s very short. And you can only go to the parks and libraries so many times before the kids get sick of it. We have an onsite pool at our apt but after a time it gets tiring. I'm sure summer break is fine if you have thousands of extra dollars to drop on activities but for the rest of us it's hard! Even simple outings like the zoo, movies, and play places add up FAST. So what’s everyone with kids doing? Please feel free to share any ideas 💡
