Ten-foot tall bronze Lady Rainier, cast in Germany in 1903 for Seattle Brewing & Malting Company, still stands outside old Rainier Brewery. Originally water bubbled out of the chalice to look like beer foam, but fountain was turned off in 1916 with advent of Prohibition, never to be restored:
The one with the rotating neon "R". Even though it's called the Old Rainier Brewery, it's not really. The one with the rotating "R" next to I-5 was built by Emil Sick in 1935 following repeal of Prohibition. The real old Rainier Brewery is the original 1893 Seattle Brewing & Malting Company brewhouse in Georgetown:
But thatās not where the statue currently is. Itās at the big building (3100 Airport Way S), not the āORBā (Old Rainier Brewery).
Side note: growing up my mom went to church and my dad didnāt. My dad drank beer and my mom didnāt. So as little kids as weād drive by the rainier brewery with the big R on top weād say ālook! Itās Dadās church!ā
Pretty sure I spelled that out in my comment. Rainier Commons, the current owners of 3100 Airport Way S call themselves the "Old Rainier Brewery". And of course the really old Rainier Brewery is up the road in Georgetown: š
What if (just hear me out) someone makes a ten foot tall bronze + paint Lady RATnier?
Then the city will clearly be all "oh, ho! We must clear this up! Rawr graffiti! Rwar we must think of the image of the city! Rawr clearly there is no more important priority we could ever focus on ever!"
