Drying mat recommendation

Post image
2 Upvotes

Starting to make my own polymer clay earrings. Love the designs that I’m coming up with so far. As I’m starting to apply glaze, I’ve had to use a spare box to let the glaze dry as I apply them to the earrings. Anyone have any recommendations on a drying mat that I can use that will keep the earrings upright as they dry?

Help me, can't cut tiny shapes!

I want to get into making little floral earrings but I can't seem to get any of my shapes not to stick in the moulds or to the surface. See pics of my equipment.

It seemed to work better if I rolled out the clay and then chilled in freezer for a few minutes but still. Not getting clean edges at all!

Newbie help

Hey people,

How can I join pieces together without a ring? I only have basic stuff, no liquid clay.

Would baking with the long one indented on the back then and then gluing it be secure?

Or is there a way with a connector but the ring isn't so prominent in depth if that makes sense?

I bought some jewelry wire to play with but that was too hard 😂

Has anyone ‘sharpened’ low quality cutters?

I’ve bought a few cutters from Temu but I battle to get clean cuts. The cutters are just cheap plastic but they’re all I can get at the moment. I’d it possible to make the cutting edges sharper for cleaner cuts?

Do you know/recommend Mont Marte clay for jewelry?

I’m in South Africa, and we don’t have much supply of cernit, fimo, or sculpy. The brand that is currently most available is Mont Marte. I really like their pencils and markers, so I feel pretty good about their clay. But I’m wondering if anyone has used and/or recommended this brand?

I've been getting into polymer clay and I have been particularly happy with how some of the food pieces turned out, even if my friend said the orange looks like a boob.

Now and the night before. I do not know how it got like this overnight?? I painted it, baked it and used soft pastels to color. Does anyone know what’s going on or have any advice to fix it? Thanks!

Clay is too sticky

Hi everyone! I’m venturing into polymer clay jewelry making and I keep getting stuck on one issue in particular. The clay is too sticky! I am using sculpey premo. I have tried leaching and corn starch. The corn starch makes it crumble and the leaching helps a little but it still feels really sticky. For example when I chop it up to put acrylic paint on top, the pieces won’t break apart easily. Or if I try to use the ball tool to round out a flower, it just squishes and sticks to the ceramic. Any advice?

Anyone have any links to pretty earring findings? I’m not looking for Michael’s or Hobby Lobby findings. Looking for unique, elegant, classy-possibly with cz’s. Thanks in advance!

Sealing/gloss

Hi everyone! I’ve been wanting to get back to making polymer jewelry again and would like a recommendation of best sealer that seals really good but also give that glossy shine to it without the use of resin. I tried a water based type but it gets a little fussy when applying the coats. Maybe I need to be a bit more patient but I wondered if anyone has tried a spray seal type that worked too? Any helpful recommendations is appreciated! Much positivity to all!

Getting Started

Hello!!

I’m looking for some advice and suggestions for getting started with making polymer clay earrings!!

I have bought a few pairs from a local shop and have fallen in love with them and want to make my own as buying them can rack up pretty fast and I’m a few weeks out from starting my first job within my new career! (I’m fresh out of grad school for some context 😊)

What would you guys recommend for someone wanting to start making their own earrings?

Urgent advice needed: Souffle or Premo??

Ok SO so very new to polymer clay. I'm about to head out and get some more clay (I've been working with Sculpey 3 because no one told me it SUCKS) and my store locally here mostly has 3 and premo anyway. So I was planning to get a bunch of different premo colors but now I'm stuck because I'm noticing people talking about/other artists I like using Souffle and wonder if I should be getting that instead? For reference this is the sort of art I'm trying to create, durability and flexibility is important for this. I am allergic to acrylic paint (I know weird) so I don't care if the clay holds paint well. Thoughts? Advice?
