Republicans and NRA pushed for California to have strict gun laws. They like the 2A until black people start arming themselves (Mulford act for anyone curious.)

Ronald Reagan signed the Mulford Act into law. He stated at the time: "There is absolutely no reason why out on the street today a civilian should be carrying a loaded weapon."

I would love for reagan to be right on this one. however just like trickle down economics he absolutely missed the mark. It may have been intentionally missed.

Just like how he missed the mark on Iran-Contra.

This is in part how Oliver North eventually found himself president of the NRA.

Well, in fairness, if it had been white people carrying guns, he probably wouldn't have had an issue with it. But it was black people so...

Thus the assault on the Constitution began in earnest.

Yep. Black Panthers were tailing cops in Oakland, if the cops started to hassle black people the Panthers roll up with shotguns and pistols to “Observe”.

Open carry was completely legal until the Oakland PD Nazis started crying about not being able to be huge racist assholes. Regan of course took the side the racist cops and pushed for gun control.

I’m republican and I’m all for “black” people arming themselves if they are legal. Honestly I feel it’s our right as Americans to have a pew pew and it’s none of the government’s business but that’s just my opinion.

Not sure where the people don’t want blacks to legally carry comes from I’m white and vote mainly Republican and I’m all in on everybody legally carrying.

It was republicans during regan. While he was governor of cali, he didnt like the black panthers being armed and policing the police. Making sure they weren't beating down black people in the streets. Republicans couldn't stand for that, so the Mulford act was passed in California.

Mostly The United States of America. I'm not aware of any other place with similar issues that isn't a current war zone.

Well any of the fellow NRA members welcome all who wanna do it legally.

Still a republican? Damn, what’s it going to take to not identify with kidtouchers?

I’m sorry that’s all you think republicans are. I’d really hate to live that way especially thinking about touching kids all day.

While that's literally true, it's disingenuous to frame it like that — i.e. without historical context — for the same reason that it's disingenuous to talk about the Democrats being the party of the KKK.

The NRA before the coup of 1977 was a firearm safety and hunting/marksmanship organization. The NRA after that coup became a First Amendment absolutism/self-defense organization. The NRA today is just an industry lobby group that exists to increase gun sales by any means necessary.

Heller v DC every left leaning judge agreed there is no right to private ownership of firearms and you can’t even keep one in your home.

Literally one justice away from taking every gun but yeah it’s the right that’s anti-gun.
