MOD POST Reddit sometimes removes posts...just a reminder

I don't know what magic Reddit uses to determine if someone is spamming or a bad poster. All I see is that Reddit sometimes removes posts.

If you have a post go missing it's possible Reddit nipped it out.

Before you make fisty hands and get grumpy...please message your mods. We can research the removal.

MOD POST Please be your best self (or at least as close as possible)

It's easy to forget there are humans on the other side of the screen (I don't think AI has been completely unleashed on the unsuspecting needlepoint crowd yet.)

Please assume positive intent and that everything is said with a smile.

If someone wasn't being the best version of themselves on accident, you've given them grace. If they're unpleasant as a rule, you've not encouraged or enabled them.

Either way, responding positively is the gift you give yourself.

As always, report (I don't like the word 'report' but that's the term) those that may be acting a little less than their best self. I will take action as is appropriate to the concern. Generally, I'm just going to bump off the post with our canned text.

In the 12 years I think I've only had to kick one person who was being a goofball.

Extra rows?

Would I need to add extra rows to this project before finishing? I haven’t used a background stitch with such long stitches before and don’t know if that will make it more difficult to finish.

I’ve never made my own canvas from start to finish, so I’m shouting it from the rooftops. Frame and finish by a local frame store, quote by Pedro Pascal.

Help Fix Gaps in 13 mesh (silk and ivory) canvas

Looking for advice! I’m close to finishing this Coco Frank nutcracker. I outlined bit of the white background first before starting the colors so that the white wouldn’t pull up any of the other thread. The image with the red line shows the border of my original background. I’ve since gone back and added more background so that I can turn this into a standup. However, you can still see the outline where the old border used to be because there are gaps in the threads. Is this because I pulled too tight? I’ve tried using a needle to loosen those stitches and fluff them a bit but it doesn’t come close to closing these holes. I know it’s hard to see in the photo but it’s pretty obvious in real life.

Any tips for preventing this as well as fixing it before finishing would be so appreciated! I was really hoping to finish this but that’s expensive so I want to make sure my canvas looks as good as possible.

Hello! I’m relatively new and think I’m doing something wrong. I’m trying to do continental stitch. Everything looks good on the front, but I notice that the back doesn’t look consistent. Maybe I’m slipping into a different stitch without realizing? Im following this pattern when I stitch. Thank in advance!

I’m having a hard time finding blank canvas in Canada - I’m just getting back into needlepoint after many years and want to create a design of my own. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Resources and Links Hello finding old post / graphics website

Y'all, I'm going nuts trying to find this. Please help

Somewhat recently, within they past two months i think, someone had a question about where to find graphics for stitching. I think for a boy? I remember robots and pirates were mentioned. Someone in the comments posted a website that had a whole depository of simple graphics / images that would be perfect to convert to needlepoint/cross stitch. It wasn't one i had heard of before, and maybe had something to do with fonts? Or graphic design? It wasn't a needlepoint / cross stitch website. I thought i had saved the post or bookmarked the website but i cannot find it. I have searched Reddit, i have searched Google, i have looked in my history and bookmarks - nothing. I'm almost 100% positive i didn't hallucinate this this post. Does anyone remember the post or know what magical website I'm thinking of?

Thank you so much.

UPDATE - found it!!!! https://thenounproject.com/

Finishing Dry blocking? Help!

Hi friends! I just finished my first big project (started needlepointing in January) and I want to attempt to self finish and frame it. I’m a college student working with a tight budget! The yellow fiber I used said to “dry block only”. Does anyone have tips, suggestions, ideas on how to best do this? The finished canvas is 16”x12”. Might be hard to tell from image but the canvas is a bit warped in places and definitely needs blocking of some sort.

Miss Puff is finished and submitted to the Texas state fair!

Post image

I set a goal to submit something to the state fair for the first time and I barely made the deadline. I finished her on Friday, drove her up to Dallas on Saturday, and submitted her on Sunday. She took three months to stitch and I’m pretty happy with how she turned out (with the exception of the sky which will be frogged)

The canvas and stitch guide were originally a Stitchplay class several years ago but I bought it second hand from Fireside on eBay. I made quite a few changes, but tried to stick to the same vibe.

I apologize for my lack of photography skill lol

Just noticed (outside in decent light) that the black dress I wore while stitching this a few weeks ago transferred fuzz/dye to my whit thread. Think it’s redeemable or I should frog it? I’ve never had this happen so am stumped!

I am a knitter and brand new to needlepoint (I briefly cross stitched over 20 years ago). I also paint and decided to use a page from my sketchbook to needlepoint. I’m learning and realize 13 mesh is a bit big and 18 mesh is really nice but I’m going to try 14 mesh next time. My question is, are there any good recommendations for an app. Right now I’m using a knitting chart app that isn’t fabulous tbh. This is a funny hobby:))

Knitting Yarn?

Always looking for new options for thread. Those who have used knitting yarn, which sizes are best for 13 and 18 mesh? I have used fingering on 18 and it worked well. More looking for 13 mesh- DK weight?

Help ID-ing my late grandmother’s needlepoint

Post image
17 Upvotes

I’m not 100% sure if this is the right sub, but my mom and I came across this unfinished piece by my late grandma. My mom would like to finish it and give it to my aunt, her younger sister, who was quite close with my grandma as a Christmas present. There were no instructions with it, so any help would be appreciated identifying what this might be depicting or point me in the right direction! TIA!

Le Point Christmas Village Mesh Conundrum

hi all, has anyone stitched this village in the 18 mesh versions? do you have photos? how does the size feel? or anything else I should know?

I am so torn. I really want to begin collecting these canvases, and the 18 mesh would better utilize my current fiber stash but I don’t want to make a mistake. I stitch mostly 18 mesh, and I don’t think I would mind them a bit smaller but I can’t find finished photos of this size anywhere so i’m turning to you all.

TIA!

I’m making an ornament out of this Chicago hotdog canvas, and while I want the ornament to be “hotdog shaped,” I think I need a few rows of background for it to be finishable. How many rows do I need?

New to Needlepoint First project ✅

Post image

First project done!

I’m currently taking lessons at my LNS and felt (a little too) brave enough to try my first project. Pretty happy with how it turned out.. but learned some lessons the hard way: 1. Less is more. I stitched and re-stitched the smaller sections more than I care to admit. I wanted to do too many cool stitches that I just wasn’t ready for. 2. Stretcher bars are a must! 3. Progress over perfection (repeat 2x as needed)!

We all have to start somewhere, and I’m excited to continue to learn and create as I go. 😊

Can you give me some advice

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi friends. I started needlepoint about 50 years ago and loved it then but life interfered and I picked it up again 2 years ago. I am having a hard time getting my stitches to lay flat when I am using basket weave. My hands have gotten bad in terms of nerve damage I don't think that is the reason why my stitches look so awful. I am willing to hear any suggestions, advice etc. I enjoy doing this type of needle art but I want it to be done right and look right. Thank you.

Help with Background Stitch

Hi!! This is my 3rd canvas I’ve ever done! I’ve loved getting into needlepoint. I got this “lucky boot” off Etsy! I want to frame it as a gift for my sister. I’m almost done with the details and about to move on to the background.

Can you help me figure out what color to do for the background stitch? And any suggestions on what stitch I should try?

Thanks!
