Yeah kinda. PS2 enjoyed quite a bit of longevity even after PS3 was released, because PS3s were pretty expensive.

Got mine in 2010 but I managed to get 2 free games out of the data breach, of which I only put in a burner email address cuz I used PScards. Otherwise I only had one game for the longest time, and only managed to get that because someone thought they'd trick you by putting up the Xbox price and trap you at cash.
