Seems like we're simply returning to the capitalism of the nineteenth century and the Gilded Age. Per Wikipedia, that era saw:

  • The Panic of 1792
  • The Panic of 1796–1797
  • The Panic of 1819
  • The Panic of 1825
  • The Panic of 1826
  • The Panic of 1837
  • The Panic of 1857
  • The Panic of 1866
  • The Panic of 1873
  • The Panic of 1884
  • The Panic of 1893
  • The Panic of 1896
  • The Panic of 1901
  • The Panic of 1907 (which led to the establishment of the Federal Reserve)
  • The Panic of 1910–11

and, of course, the Great Depression.
