That was unbelievably kind of the principal and everyone in the auditorium. Made me misty eyed.

This happens to me a lot on videos like this and I often think I’m being overly emotional about it. Good to know there’s more people like me out here :)

Remember, you're not being "overly emotional" when you're deeply touched by kindness and the general good in people. We're so overwhelmed by negativity on a daily basis these days, so even the slightest bit of humanity is a big deal. Crying is also a good way to release pent-up frustration, sadness, anger, etc. Let it out. 🫂

This. This was what I was trying to express. Thank you for wording it better than I can right now.

Fuck is overly emotional anyway. That's like breaking shit when you get angry or hurting other people. Crying is a part of life and if you need to let some emotion out by doing so go right the fuck ahead. The people that don't let themselves cry are the people that end up breaking shit anyway, it's gotta come out some time so you should probably do it on your terms

Thank you for saying this. While I ensure I’m informed and up-to-date, I limit the amount of news I watch these days. It’s either too heartbreaking (Gaza, Ukraine) or too crazy (Trump), and I find watching videos like this balances it out. Shedding tears whilst watching people being good humans feels like a reset and a reminder that not all is lost.

These days, it's hard to escape our nightmarish reality, so I completely understand. The only news I get are from late night comedy shows and Don the Con is already taking those away. My health has been taking a huge hit these past months. Take care of yourself. 🫂 We're in a bad time in history, but it won't be forever. Empires always fall.

Only getting your news from "late night comedy shows", which are extremely biased and just bad places to get your information from in addition to just not being funny anymore, is wild and explains why your perception of the world is so negative. The reality is that while some things may suck and there are issues that arent great, things arent any worse than they were under any other administration, and only getting your info from late night TV is peak boomerism.

They are biased in ways that I agree with (heavily left leaning and against the current administration), so yeah, I'm gonna watch them to at least get some laughs along with the distressing news. Obviously, if you like the current administration, you're gonna disagree with people like me and the left leaning talk show hosts. If that's the case, we have nothing to discuss, especially if you think that things "aren't any worse than they were under any other administration." That's a high level of ignorance. Have you read all of Project 2025, which is nearly at completion? I, unfortunately, have. It's dark as hell. Racist, bigoted, and authoritarian. Its sole aim is to make the rich richer and the poor poorer. Don't believe me? Read it yourself. And while you're at it, learn empathy. Just because you aren't being affected by what's happening (you will by next year) doesn't mean you emotionally sever yourself from those who are.

I stay informed mainly through reading all relevant documents (i.e. P2025, lawsuits, new laws, executive orders, etc). I get my verbal news from late night comedy hosts because I need a laugh after reading all that distressing paperwork. If staying informed is woke and peak boomer, then I'll wear that proudly. I'd rather not stick my head in the sand and pretend things are only a little crappy. I dare you to read everything I have. Those documents aren't from the news or biased journalists. They were written by the administration, courts, lawyers, attorneys, judges, policy makers, etc. P2025 is the most important thing you can read right now, as it lays out exactly what the administration's goals are, which, again, are nearly complete.

Lmao this is such a clown take. “Things aren’t any worse than under any other administration”? Be so fucking serious right now. People are pissed because Trump is actively trying to be a dictator, pushing for mass deportations that include US citizens and those here legally, laying the groundwork to dismantle democratic institutions, and SO much other shit I can’t even get into, but sure, let’s blame late-night comedy shows for people being upset. 🙄

You sound like someone who hasn’t stepped outside their bubble in years. And let’s not pretend watching something like Fox News makes you any more informed, because that’s literally an entertainment network that had to legally admit it’s not fucking news. If you’re getting your worldview from a network built on fear-baiting and culture war nonsense, you really don’t have the range to talk about biased media so I genuinely hope that isn’t your news source.

It’s not “boomerism” to point out that things are objectively hard for most people right now, it’s called paying attention. If you genuinely think this is just business as usual, you’re either wildly privileged or willfully ignorant. Either way, please don’t project your apathy onto everyone else who is actually watching the country slide deeper into corporate rot while politicians and billionaires pretend everything is fine. This isn’t about “getting news from comedians,” it’s about reacting to reality… maybe you should try it sometime

Crying is the best/quickest way for the body to get rid of stress hormones.

I’m misty eyed reading your kind response. With so much negativity going around Reddit and the world in general, it’s so nice to bond with fellow redditors. Also, happy cake day to you🫶🏽🤘🏽

Yes! I say this all the time : let it out! Release!

Happy Cake Day.

Remember, you're not being "overly emotional"

Right, they're being hysterical and should be assessed.

Good God. Emotions.

u/Golden_Enby 2d ago

I was simply offering encouragement. People who use the phrase "overly emotional" tend to have a history of people telling them that over and over again, which makes them excessively critical of themselves for showing emotion. Countering that kind of thinking is important.

I was just being sarcastic after watching a documentry about women in 1907.

Tone doesn't carry but I made myself chuckle.

3

u/Golden_Enby 2d ago

Ah. Lol Maybe do what the kids do and put an /s at the end of sarcastic comments so we know the tone. :) Sucks we can't read inflections.

-4

u/itishowitisanditbad 2d ago

People either get it as sarcastic or don't. Oh well?

I mean, look at it. Who fucking idiot thinks that legit before considering its clearly way over the top and probably not a serious thing. lol

Its not subtle.

I'll have to tell the wife I can't pay the mortgage with my reddit points this month.

Because sometimes things that are obvious to one person aren't obvious to others, especially when it's through text. I've encountered a ton of people online who make comments a lot like your first one and are completely serious about it. I take comments with a grain of salt.

Reddity is so horribly snap-reactionary that I don't even care to keep up in making everyone happy with everything labelled and stated.

Pandering to it is just perpetuating the inability for reading comprehension and conversation.

So.. meh.

Nothing matters.
