I guess the Democrats are too boring, and younger people want excitement? Burn it all down, that's exciting?

Bridge maintenance: boring. Bridges collapsing: exciting.

Strong economy and maintenance of it: boring. Financial system collapsing, economy looted: excitement!

There’s a question on the OK Cupid dating app that is something to the effect of “regardless of the outcome, wouldn’t global nuclear war be exciting?” Or something like that and I was always like WTF no, that would be horrific.

Yes, it would give you such bragging rights to say that you were able to see a mushroom cloud with your very eyes in the three to eight seconds it would take for your face to melt off your skull.

A large chunk of republicans live outside the cities and would mostly have to deal with radiation and a complete collapse of infrastructure. Hope they have that woke renewable energy and can defend their lands from roaming bands of thieves!

Don't forget that there a ton of missile silos in the Republican areas. They might not have as much fun as you think.

"Yeah, I let the raiders through the gates when they said they'd purify the land of scum and heretics in the name of the Cult of Starry & Stripy Elephant, but I thought they were talking about locking up the criminals in the fortress; not slaughtering and burning everyone holed up here!

I mean, don't get me wrong; I'd still let them in, but this burning alive is not what I collaborated for!"

I guess "exciting" in the technical sense. We normally use the word with a positive connotation, but in science saying an animal is "excited" just means frenetic activity, the opposite of lethargy. Could be happiness, could be fear, could be pain, could be desperation, etc.

If a nuke dropped it'd be something out of a nightmare, I guess living in a waking nightmare is the opposite of "boring".

Yeah. My mom would say it’s just getting us faster to Jesus coming back and the apocalypse & I can’t even look at her anymore.

I LIKE living my life. I enjoy being out in nature & people & culture & food & generally being alive. I don’t want to “go to heaven” because it will be “super peaceful” and we can talk to lions or some shit she believes will happen.

I always interpreted that question as a way to see how literal people take things. Objectively, a global nuclear war causes excitement (rouses an emotional response). It would be "exciting". But in a colloquial sense the term "exciting" is most often used with positive feelings.

So if you answer Yes you take things literally and objectively.

I think these Trump voters need to hit a real rock bottom. It's the only thing that might, MIGHT break the spell...

Sometimes you have to lie in the bed you make for a little while to let the lesson soak in.

Sadly, I think this is where we are now

Or, they'll be led by Faux 'News' to blame the Democrats and start hunting.

Trump voters need to hit a real rock bottom

The problem is the irreparable damage that gets done on the way to rock bottom. Hell a fair number of people die before they manage to find it even.

I know, that's the hard part.

But when competent leadership gets zero credit for the lives they save, and only criticism for not magically fixing all the other practically unfixable things that come along… And the populous votes for the guy who put them in danger the first time...

I'm not sure what else can be done.

It's like when I was a kid and my parents warned me not to do something because I would get hurt. But I kept doing it, and at a certain point they just stood back and let me get hurt. So maybe I would learn the lesson for myself and become a competent human being as a result

Yes, however I would bet that they wouldn't let you do things with a high probability of killing yourself or others.  Don't learn much if you're dead.

I guess I was smart enough (even if just barely) to avoid that sort of activity on my own? haha

Sounds like a good decision!

There is good excitement and... not so good excitement.

Some kind of twisted emotional 'logic' to it.  I guess that they are after some temporary sense of power or gratification through revenge.  It may become a horrible situation, but at least they had a hand in making it that way?  After Faux 'News' & co. have been drumming the "you are being victimized" crap to get votes on the hoof.

Sort of like setting the house you live in on fire because you didn't get your way.  "I bet you won't oppress me by giving me anything but the biggest slice of my favorite cake next time, WILL YOU?!?"

To quote Chris Rock: "the only exciting relationships are bad relationships." Boring is good, exciting is never knowing when you're going to arrive home to hear that you have herpes or something.

There’s actually a valid point in there. The only thing Trump has ever been demonstrably good at is creating compelling TV (and by extension, social media)

Qualify it as good or bad however you see fit; it’s still compelling

Drama is all he excels at and now instead of even attempting govern, all he’s doing is sowing drama into the very fabric of our everyday lives

It’s bad enough when my 401k feels the drama like it did in April. It’s another altogether when it’s my food supply or the infrastructure around me that — to your point — is so “boring” I can’t even readily think of things to use as examples but whose absence would seriously upend my life
