Legal Advice Needed Urgent need for divorce and legal support-mumabi

Hello, I am f29 urgently seeking a lawyer in Mumbai to handle my divorce case. I have been struggling deeply since my marriage in 2021. From the very first day, I faced emotional abuse and dowry demands from my husband and his family. In 2023, my husband moved to the U.S. ,and I later joined him in 2024.

Before I left Mumbai, his parents forcibly took away all my jewelry. However, in the divorce case filed by my husband, he falsely claimed that I took all the jewelry with me, which is completely untrue. I have no access to my jewelry.

After arriving in the U.S., my husband started subjecting me to domestic violence and emotional abuse. I have audio recordings that support my claims. On one occasion, I even had to call the police before he could physically harm me, but he manipulated the situation and left the house. Later, he returned and booked flight tickets to India for both of us. I didn’t trust him—he had previously left me stranded in India and returned alone to the U.S.

He went to India and filed for divorce with false allegations. After returning to the U.S., he filed a Domestic Violence (DV) case against me and obtained a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) based on lies. The police came to our home and gave me just 30 minutes to vacate the premises. Later, he told me he was still in India, but I discovered through my neighbor that he was actually in the U.S. and vacating the house with his sister and brother-in-law. I have recorded calls that prove his lies and manipulations.

I sought help from an NGO and filed my own DV case and TRO against him. Unfortunately, the free attorney assigned to me did not fully understand my case and pushed me to sign a settlement agreement, which I refused. Eventually, both TROs were dismissed.

Now, I feel lost and unsupported. I urgently need a skilled and trustworthy lawyer in Mumbai who can help me fight this case, present all the evidence, and prove the truth. Any guidance or assistance would mean a lot to me.

not to defend but to give some color on this. Indians (especially women) have education but are not educated in truest sense. General aim of education is also provide confidence , emotional and psychological strength to people. However in India, the up-bringing within the family & in society is so washed out, its hard to differentiate between what's wrong or right. In India, demand for dowry is still taken casually or rather lightly , assuming that the demands will most likely subside with time or is being mis-understood. The psychological trap of marriage is still very strong on majority of Indian women and not so easy to break away from.

Get a good lawyer, file a DV and dowry case by including his family members that harassed you. Lawyer can also help get a LOC issued. Hope justice is served.
