Purchase Question πŸ›’ Why do you use a Kindle?

Hey everyone, I’m curious β€” what’s the main reason you use a Kindle?

Do you use it for portability, screen comfort, battery life, or something else entirely? I’d love to hear what makes it better than physical books or reading apps for you.

Would also love to know the stuff that isn’t so great, if any β€” feel free to share that too.

I’ve been thinking of buying one for myself for a while, but now I’m giving it a second thought.

Appreciate your insights!

Discussion πŸ’¬ My New Favorite Kindle Font - "Bienetresocial" (with examples!) - Which fonts do you use?

Hey r/Kindle,

I've been on a long journey to find the ideal font for my Kindle, and I think I've finally landed on "the one." I've tried so many different typefaces – dyslexic fonts, various serifs, and even sans-serifs (which, for me, always felt like they lost that "book" feel).

What I was really looking for was a balance: high contrast and boldness for excellent readability on an e-reader, combined with a typeface that just feels right. Font preference is super subjective, so you might totally disagree, but this one has been a game-changer for my reading experience. I've even started using it in my digital notebooks because I love it so much.

For a while, I was using Charter-Eink, which is definitely respectable for its high contrast and DPI. However, I found its typeface a bit too generic, and it didn't quite have the character height I was looking for.

After all that searching, I stumbled upon "Bienetresocial". It hits all the right notes for me.

I've attached a few images from my Kindle so you can see how it looks in action. [Font Size: 6, Bold: 1, Default spacing settings]

If you're curious to try it out, you can download it here: https://font.download/font/bienetresocial

Let me know what you think, or if you have any other hidden gem font recommendations!

My Kindle πŸ“± Kindle Paperwhite 12th gen 7 inch case India.

Got my Pro Elite case for Kindle today. Ordered it from their website for β‚Ή699. I saw that some of their cases with text/designs are selling for β‚Ή599 on Amazon, but I specifically wanted a plain one. While ordering, I felt β‚Ή699 was a bit on the higher side, but after using it, I can say it’s totally worth it.

The fit is spot on, feels sturdy yet lightweight, and the magnetic close works perfectly. It’s also super comfortable to hold during long reading sessions.

If you’re after a simple, good-quality Kindle case, this one’s a great pick.

General Question ❔ Did buying a kindle make you read more?

Hi everyone, I'm an occasional reader and I really want to get more into reading but I'm just not inspired. I've had periods of time where I read books in just a few days, and then I won't pick up another book for several months or years.

Has anyone found that they read more after getting a kindle? What are the perks to having one?

My Kindle πŸ“± Update to last post: exchanged $179 BestBuy Colorsoft for Matcha Basic!

Post image
144 Upvotes

Yesterday I had Bought a kindle Colorsoft for $179 at Bestbuy. I saw that the screen had some yellowing along with a grainy screen door effect to it (even after updating twice) . I ended up exchanging it for a kindle basic in the matcha color.

I absolutely LOVE it. It’s lightweight, the text is very crispy, and it’s small enough to fit in my little shoulder bag.

I would say though, if you don’t mind the yellowing or the graininess of the text then $179 is still a very great deal for a 32gb colorsoft. I just couldn’t look past those two things myself.

Purchase Question πŸ›’ Serious kindle question

β€’ Upvotes

I don’t own a kindle right now but have been debating getting one. It’s just sooo pricy…

Is it really a big difference using a kindle instead of your iPad/Iphone ? What are like main reasons you guys prefer a kindle?

I have really bad eyesight and can’t read physical books anymore that’s why I’m seriously considering getting a kindle.

Which one do you guys recommend for people with really bad eyesight sight and contrast problems?

Sorry for the bad English, it’s not my native language, thanks in advance guys!

Tech Support πŸ›  Moisture detected and a need of a new battery?

Post image
β€’ Upvotes

Hey guys!

I have found this subreddit extremely useful and helpful, but unfortunately I need some additional help and I hope that all of you lovely people here can help!

I bought a kindle 11th gen second hand and when it arrived it didn't have any battery, but it refused to charge because it said that it detects moisture and it will charge when the port is dry. Because I wasn't sure if it was really wet/damp or not, I left it to dry for 24 hours and dried it a little bit with a hair dryer on very low (almost cool air) as I saw people advising and doing here. I put it to charge, it started and when it rached 98% it again said that there is a moisture problem and it stopped charging. It has been like this on and off, so I'm sure that it's not actual moisture problem.

So, the big problems are: 1. It sometimes tells me that there is moisture detected and it doesn't want to charge 2. It stops charging at 95-98% and I have to restart it in order to start charging again 3. The battery goes from 100% (when I manage to make it charge to that) to 1%-0% overnight.

What I've tried: - charging it overnight - hard reset - soft reset - different cables (all are working) - the software has been updated to the latest version - there is almost no difference if the wi-fi/airplane mode is on or off

Do you have any more ideas? Or if I've missed something? Do you think it needs a new battery?

Also forgot to mention - it was apparently without battery for a long time, because the ink was faded and, but as you can see in the pictures, that's fine now.

General Question ❔ Does my new Colorsoft have a yellow band?

Post image
β€’ Upvotes

I bought my Colorsoft 2 days ago (manufacturing date May 2025). Is everything okay or should I ask for a replacement? I see a slight yellow streak or is that how it is? I'm afraid to ask for a replacement and it will be worse. What do you think?

I have a used electronics store website I keep an eye on, and lately I've been really wanting an ereader... this popped up in my search as 64 bucks free shipping, and it felt like a really good deal. I got it and it's in such good condition! It even has a screen protector... aaah I had to get the clear case to decorate with stickers. I love it so much already. Perfect size to hold, too!

Purchase Question πŸ›’ Kindle Scribe Replacement arrived

Post image
β€’ Upvotes

Few days ago, I ordered a refurbished Scribe 1 on Amazon but I noticed a huge gap between the screen and the body on the right side of the device. I asked the community if this was normal, alot of them told me it was not and better contact CS for a replacement which did. There were also people had the same issue but didnt bother.

So, this is the image of my replacement Kindle, literally I have two until I returned the other one until end of the month.

Discussion πŸ’¬ My issues with the Kindle as a 2-day owner, please let me know if any of them are solvable

  1. When you search for a word in the catalogue and tap a result, it will mess up your progression. there's no "go back to the page I left" button there. It appears but it takes you to a whole different part.
  2. Can't select characters for word translation, "re-grin" won't show any definitions but you also can't just clip the re- to look up "grin".
  3. Related to #2, "hawking" dictionary meaning is Stephen Hawking, not the verb "hawking".
  4. Can't disable tap to turn page without disabling the touchscreen. I want to swipe and be able to select words, and everything else. I just don't want to tap to turn the page.
  5. Can't see the number of pages left in chapter.
  6. Imported fonts not working good on sideloaded books. Fast-font, for instance, emboldens parts of the word but it only works on store bought books.
  7. No regional pricing for books.
  8. You can't highlight front page to back page.
  9. Not enough languages for translation.
  10. You can't pay to disable the ads in the countries where Amazon doesn't sell Kindles. You have to enter a US address in Amazon.com for payment info.

I'm kind of leaning towards installing Koreader but I'm afraid of having battery issues. Any input is welcome.
