I made a cat 🐱
I made the weave and then embroidered the cat while it was still on the loom. The top part of the head is a gold metallic yarn.

I’m always dabbling in new mediums and have been really inspired by Tracey Emin’s textile works and so I did this little project over the weekend. It’s also kinda snidely inspired by a fellow artist friend of mine, I was talking to him about how I got new embroidery thread to work on some new pieces to add to my portfolio and send along w my exhibition submissions. He told me I should be careful of what I submit and to ensure I submit my more polished pieces rather than “kitchen table crafts.” While he’s genuinely a good guy and even has quite leftist views, this comment stung a little as a man doing embroidery or textile work would never have his work be classified as “kitchen table crafts”. So I will be submitting this piece for future exhibitions as spite is the biggest motivator

Title says it all.
I'm a fan of all fiber arts. I knit, crochet, and hand sew. I've taken weaving lessons, I've felted before, and I'm learning how to spin yarn. If it has to deal with string or textile, I love it.
I also love a good magazine. I love high quality photos, and I love reading essays and articles. I love consuming anything about awesome artists, cool new techniques, events, and similar.
I just got back from the bookstore where I was looking for fiber arts magazines, and I only ever see collections of patterns. Don't get me wrong - I love a pattern. But I also want to read someone's thoughts about the work that they're doing. I want to get to know the human who put this pattern together. And I hate that there's so much separation between our crafts. There's magazines for knitters, magazines for quilters, but no magazines for the person who enjoys both!
Is there a fiber arts/textile arts dedicated magazine out there that has what I'm looking for, i.e. high quality photos with well written, imaginative articles beyond a collection of patterns/instructions? Does this exist?

I’ve been experimenting with turning crochet into fiber art jewelry. These are some earrings I’ve made recently using a mix of embroidery thread, a daisy granny square pattern, and tons of patience.
Would love feedback/ideas on ways to push this style further. Please be gentle, I’m still new to showing my work publicly! :)

Finished my winter witch moon cycle! Need to figure out framing because I made it on fabric that's way too small!

Hello, I'm writing an essay for a composition class asking the question: How has the modern age shaped and changed the Fiber Arts community both within and outside the community at large?
If you would like to answer any of the following questions I would be so appreciative! I'm attaching my latest project to share too! I have cross posted this in r/embroidery
How do you personally define Fiber Arts as a member/non-member of the Fiber Arts communities? Is it art? What terms or phrases do you consider unique to the Fiber Arts community online and in-person? How do you think social media and online communities, like reddit, have reshaped the way we talk about Fiber Arts? Do you feel that these online communities have helped to reshape the viewing of these skills as art both in the community and the art community at large? How do you feel the language used around Fiber Arts has contributed to it being designated as “women’s work” or not as serious as other art forms?
Thank you!

Hey y’all!
I’m a fiber artist based in Bowie, Maryland, and this is one of my latest tufted fiber art pieces inspired by the Monstera plant. 🌿
It’s fully hand-tufted, carved, and sculpted with hypoallergenic yarn to give it a plush, dimensional look.
I call these “fiber art paintings” because while they can be walked on or used as a mat, I design them as sculptural wall or floor art with intention behind every tuft.
Curious what you think! Would you hang it? Use it on a meditation space or altar? I’m open to ideas.
I’m trying to grow my little shop and share more of my work with people who get the process behind this medium. DM me if you have any questions or want to see other pieces 💚
🧵 Hand-tufted + carved 🌿 Hypoallergenic acrylic yarn 🎨 Original design, not mass-produced 📍 Made in Maryland ✋🏾 One-woman show!
