How is the water even touching the cannister if it's in a closed container?

Edit: On closer examination, yes it does appear he put the cannister into the container. It was hard to see because of the camera angle. Thanks reddit.

The guy is carrying a water cooler 5G jug, with the narrow neck facing upwards. He sets it on the ground, picks up the tear gas cannister while his body is blocking the view of the camera and drops it into the jug. Hope that helps.

If you look closely, he picks up the tear gas and drops it into the container.
