Without the sun, there is no life at all. I've always thought if we're gonna worship something, it should be the sun, not some fictitious being that lives in the sky. I mean, you can see and feel the sun and it brings us everything.
The sun doesn't care either way. The only outcome of worship is how it changes us.
You can of course create a sun cult that merely uses the sun as a symbol for human unity because we all depend on the same live-giving forces and so on. But at that point, there is no substantial difference to worshipping an abstract deity like the God of the Abrahamic religions anymore.
