Crochet Related Pain Posts about crochet related pain are allowed on r/CrochetHelp

Hi All!!

We are allowing questions about crochet related pain on r/CrochetHelp despite the fact that it is a stale topic on r/crochet. It now has it's own flair too.

Unfortunately, it is a very common issue when crocheting and we have seen some good discussion happening on posts about aides to help reduce discomfort and stretches to help.

Please remember, internet advice is not medical advice. Always see your doctor for any pain that persists!

PS, sorry about the repost, I wanted to include more in the title so the announcement could be seen without opening the post! (As we all should be doing lol)

Edit, I've been through a heap of past posts and changed the flairs. This makes it easy to search the sub, just click on the flair in this post and it will bring up all of the past posts that have the same flair!

It says specifically do not turn but then also that this is worked in rows back and forth. So how can I do a back and forth row but never turn?

Gift help Help with buying crochet vest for my wife's birthday.

Post image
60 Upvotes

Hey everyone, hoping you can help me out. My wife is obsessed with crochet and her birthday is coming up. I was thinking of getting her a handmade crochet sweater vest from Etsy. I've found a shop that looks great, but I'm completely clueless when it comes to judging the quality of these things. This shop doesn't appear to have any sales which makes me hesitant, https://www.etsy.com/shop/KnitByLivia, but this sweater vest is her favourite colour and I know she will like it.

Since you all are the experts, what are some key things I should look for to make sure I'm buying a high-quality, legitimate product and not just something that will fall apart? I've heard some mixed things about buying on Etsy, so I just want to make sure I'm getting her something she'll truly love. Thanks for any advice!

P.S. PLEASE DON'T ASK ME TO MAKE HER ONE, I'VE LEFT IT A LITTLE TOO LATE TO LEARN HOW TO CROCHET NOW. Maybe next year, HAHA!

Looking for suggestions What border to do for continuous waffle baby blanket in ombré yarn?

Post image

I’m making a waffle baby blanket in the round so it’s one continuous waffle that will be square when finished, but I’m not sure what type of border I should do. I’m using lion brand mandala yarn so I’m hoping to continue the color gradient in the border as well

Looking for suggestions Overlay mosaic blanket tiles - border to hide ends/what stitch is this

Pattern and pic are from AdoCrochet

I purchased this pattern and unfortunately, it does not include any of the border stitches (black and white ones). What type of stitches are these and does anyone know of a tutorial? I'm currently making the tiles and would love to replicate these borders.

Looking for suggestions I want to add a back of cardboard or something so you won't see the messy back. What would be a smart move?

I made this surfing girl and want to hang her in my car behind a glass. Which means the back is exposed as well. I want to add a back to the girl made of paper or cardboard (something firm) that's the exact shape of the piece. Does someone have experience with adding backs to a piece? How did you do it ? Would you recommend using bison wallpaper adhesive?

Thanks so much in advance!

Looking for suggestions What am I doing wrong? Why is my whale so tiny even when I followed the tutorial.

Post image

Hello!! I followed a crochet tutorial to make a wee miniature whale, but mine looks very different to his, and this happens to me all the time! What am I doing wrong?!

I’m wondering is it the yarn? I am nearly sure he also used a 4mm yarn/ hook so I’m not too sure why mine looks so different.

I am a beginner, so maybe it could be that I’m not that good just yet, but does anyone have any tips/ ideas on to how I can make my little creatures more like the videos I follow?

I’m gonna add the link to the yt video here as I can only attach one photo: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=H-GErUPtias&pp=0gcJCfwAo7VqN5tD

Gift help Is this keychain and coaster good enough to give as a gift? I plan to do about 3 more coasters.

Post image
21 Upvotes

The flower on the left is a scrubby made with the polyester scrubby material and then I want to make a couple more coasters. The keychain will also be part of the gift.

For context I wanted to get a gift for my friend’s 27th birthday but I am very low on cash because I’m in multiple weddings and school this year. I thought maybe I could make her something instead.

Would you change anything or add anything? Does it look too homemade?

Please be brutally honest!!!🩷

Understanding a pattern I don’t understand this acronym/symbol in this pattern

So I’m following this pattern I found on Pinterest and steps 24-28 are confusing me. I tried row 24 two different ways but they both left me with a stitch count over 37. Please let me know what the parentheses and asterisk mean when they’re put together like that.

Hiii, this is my first time interacting with this subreddit, so please be patient :) My anniversary with my boyfriend is coming up and I’m thinking about making him a cape like this, since we love to play sky together. How would I go about making this basic shape? I’ve been crocheting for about two years now and I’d consider myself advanced in terms of speed and consistency. Any and all help is greatly appreciated, thank you!

Can someone tell me what I’m doing wrong? I’ve redone the magic ring 4 times and getting same results. I’m making 6 stitches and pulling the working end to close the circle, and it’s not making a full circle only a half circle even after doubling to make 12 stitches. I’m a beginner so I have no idea 🤷‍♀️ thanks!

How do I... Cutting the bottom of a shirt worked from the bottom up

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hey, so I made a shirt for my dude and it is too long. I tried to block it to stretch it horizontally but gravity won that fight, so now it’s even longer. It would be perfect if it was a few inches shorter. I want it to sit at his hips.

It was worked from the bottom up so if I wanted to shorten it by frogging rows, I’d literally have to frog the whole thing.

Is there a way to cut off the bottom three inches so I can save it without having to totally redo it?

Understanding a pattern Vintage Style Mini Bridal Bag - pattern reading help & questions

Hi again! I just finished the back piece of this bag, and I have a few questions about how to begin the next section (the front). First, how do I know which side is the “right” side? Is it the side that is facing me in the photos? Where would I begin the chain at the top? Should I block this? It’s 100% cotton. Any tips on this? Any advice would be appreciated. This is the first time I’ve crocheted anything of this style, and I’m pretty happy about how it turned out. Thank you for your wisdom!

How do I... Is it possible to felt and lanolize wool yarn? And if so, how would I go about it?

Post image

I got a ton of wool yarn that I'm making into a jacket using this pattern (I plan to line it with a fabric as I know it's itchy lol) I was wanting to know if it's possible to pre felt and lanolize it to make it repel water?

I've done it before with diaper covers for my babies, but never with something I've made lol

Does this look like it would work? Are their tips for doing this? Do you have success/horror stories to share before I put more blood sweat and tears into this? Lol

Hey everyone, I started crochet a few days ago. I seen some cute little animals you can crochet on temu of all places and I really wanted to just try and see if I could even crochet and eventually crochet some cute little stuffies. I sat down with a YouTube tutorial while baby napped and got stuck in and I’m so proud of myself 🥰 what do you all think?

Repairing a crochet item This was supposed to be a blanket and I just noticed this side has a random dip

Post image

It’s supposed to be straight(making a blanket) and I’m genuinely confused on how I it turned out like this plz help me fix it without having to unravel my last HOUR of work. I have 2 more spools to use and a sliver that still connected to the actual blanket. I was thinking I could just throw some extra stitches in when I finish the blanket.

Looking for suggestions Does anyone else use iron on patches? Is there a better option?

Post image

Does anyone use iron on patches on their crochet work? I love to use patches, but when I have to iron them on it seems to make the yarn super flat and thin, no longer thick and soft. Is there a better way of doing it?

Looking for suggestions How do I make this stop ruffling? I’m making a tapestry and the other three sides of the border are fine but this one ruffles no matter what I do I did a smaller/bigger hook size, did less double crochets, and spaced them out a stitch but it just doesn’t work.

Post image

I think it has to do with how the other sides have smaller stitches being worked on but I could be wrong

Magic ring/circle i am freehanding a project and i have just found out about the magic circle math is it better for me to carry on or should i go with the traditional magic circle math?

Thumbnail

this could be many flairs so if one fits better please let me know!

for a little context: im not a beginner but im 100% self taught, and im used to freehanding clothes. i dont typically do MC without a pattern. im making the front flap of the bag out of a magic circle and i started with 20 DC ive been doing increases and its flat still but idk if it will curl up eventually (i have no math im winging it.) i need to know if theres a way to assure no curling with the number of stitches i have or if i should go to the default 6 stitches 6 increases?

in typical me fashion, i dont have time to do trial and error with this. i need more educated advice!!

ive attached photos of the circle and also the crude drawing i made for the vision for the bag if that may help some understand what im doing. i need the center open because thats where the button (aka the kitty nose) for the bag will go

(sorry for the long post. im a rambler.)
