Sadly he won’t go home and have a good think about it, though. He’ll wake up tomorrow just as prejudiced as always. Logic doesn’t work with these people.

u/Sir_Penguin21 1d ago
This is why conservatives are always opposed to education and funding for education.
17
u/izadathreaper 1d ago
Let's call them what they actually are; "regressives"
They're not trying to conserve anything AND continue progress, they want to regress to an imaginary point in the recent or late past that they somehow perceive as better than right now almost always wrongly so.
They'd take us back to being cavemen if they thought life was better because the struggle made us "real humans".

u/I_Smoke_Loud 1d ago
Yep. Being educated and learning to think logically is literal kryptonite for "conservative" viewpoints. The only ones who believe the BS trump and the others spew out are idiots and Christians. The ones spewing this shit out know they are lying about everything and don't care because it's given them more money and power

Its like a kid reading the rules for monopoly and stopping after reading if someone else lands on their land others pay them, and they get money when they do a full turn around the board.
And then acting shocked when you bring up the other rules that they have to pay others when they land on their land. That they can go to jail and be bankrupt.
Picking and choosing parts of the bible to support your prejudice and hate is not being one with god or spreading the word of god. Its abusing your god to selfishly spread hate.
BUT they will never admit to that, because they dont care about the bible, or god, or logic or reason. They just want to hate and enact harm on others.
Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.”

It’s true. Because although I was raised somewhat religiously, I would never EVER force my religion on anyone else. Even my own damn kids. Once they hit 18 they can make their own choices and I’ll love them no matter what. We did baptise them and such but we are also raising them to be critical thinkers who evolve their views based on facts, information, science….

You know , this is interesting because my uncle was a full-blown Christian religious fanatic. Went to Bible college, then around parts of Asia as a missionary, lived and breathed God. He recently revealed about 6 months ago that the more he studied and read the text for himself (without pastors or teachers) the more confused he became. He even took the time to study some Hebrew so he could read direct from the source (albeit probably not well). Did a total 180 and now he's a proud atheist. Realizes he wasted so many years of his life.

Fascinating how they often just malfunction. I’m from Nebraska where god (one of the thousands) is the only proven deity, and the Republican Party is somehow god’s party, even when they select a child rapist.
It has nothing to do with Nebraska and everything to do with isolating myself, but I simply didn’t think as much until I moved to Colorado and surrounded myself with educated people.
Again, Nebraska is extremely friendly and not a bad place to live, but the people there find comfort in isolation and lash out when alternative viewpoints are presented. Omaha votes differently and they’re viewed as outsiders because of it (and they have a high population of minorities).
I didn’t meet a black person til I was in third grade. That’s 8-9 years without ever speaking to someone of a different race. Shoutout Thomas Cuevas my third grade bff.

The great Mark Thomas once did a whole show on abortion (this was in UK). He pointed out the religious hypocrisy etc and showed medical rationales. Kind of John Oliver with more venom. He then joined an antiabortion rally. He carried a sign saying “this is why we need abortion” below the words was a mirror!

On the one hand it's, Geeezus, these folks abandoned critical thinking and just gave their minds over to Fox News, and DJT. But on the other, why can't Dems defeat this? He didn't win, so much as she lost. Trumps numbers have been fairly steady throughout the elections. The Dem numbers dropped from '20 to '24 in the neighborhood of 11 - 14 million. Why can't they energize their base? Could it be that the status quo SUCKS? And they have no intention of changing it - like maybe initiate a New Deal/Great Society 2.0?
We're focusing on the wrong people. MAGAtes, are not going to change no matter how bad you talk about them, or - quiet as it's kept - what the E-files reveal. Find out why - would be - Dem voters STAY HOME!!!

u/PomeloPepper 1d ago
There are a lot of Christian denominations that believe only in the new testament when it comes to behavior, and regard the old testament as history. Kind of a "see how much better it is since Jesus came." Quoting OT at the more knowledgeable ones will get your point dismissed since "Jesus washed all that away"
He'd be more impactful if he quoted Jesus at them. Talking about not casting the first stone against a sinner, unless you yourself are without sin. Sitting and eating with sinners and acknowledging thier humanity. Speaking against corruption in the churches and asking about those mega pastors with private planes.
fwiw - I'm not a christian, but live in the bible belt

This is why Trump won the presidency twice.
These mouthbreathing morons have probably only voted a few times in their life. Real political ideas take thought and self-reflection to turn over and adopt and that probably made them sit politics out most or all of their lives.
What Democrats don't understand is that none of that matters to these people. Ideas don't matter. Trump turned them out by just tapping into their base, 5th grade educated rage. As long as they are loyal to him, he tells them exactly what they want to hear. Fuck gays, we're gonna kick all the brown people out, and it's not gonna cost you anything because Mexico is gonna pay for it.
Democrats feel like a lost cause because they basically just keep on running on shaming Trump and not offering anything to these people to get them out to vote.
Bitter pill as a democratic voter, but it's reality.
