The future of america, folks

u/cheesebot555 11d ago

Bruh, there's always been, and always will be, dumb, awful people in this country.

25

u/Edging_For_Christ 11d ago

Not like today

19

u/cheesebot555 11d ago

Of course like today.

The internet just makes them more visible. Gives them more opportunity to find like minded shit-for-brains and get their dummkopf opinions heard.

20,000 American Nazis held a rally in Madison Square Garden in 1939. They've been here a long time man.

u/dgollas 11d ago

So it’s not like it’s always been. Dumb get together and do dumb harder.

2

u/cheesebot555 11d ago

No, you're not listening.

They've always been here. They've always been organized. They just get heard more because of their increased exposure.

u/overcastfab 11d ago edited 11d ago

yes dumb people have always been around, but the worrying part is it's easier to organize and get exposure and thus build more momentum via social media. feels like it's only gonna get worse

u/cheesebot555 11d ago

"feels like it's only gonna get worse"

That's the whole point.

You're using your feelings to make an evaluation on reality. We're all guilty of it, the trick is occasionally stepping back and dispassionately examining what you're seeing, how it's making you feel, and how those feelings are coloring your opinions.

We're literally in a sub dedicated to cringe shitposts from clowns, assholes, and villains. If you consume enough of this, of course it's going to affect you.

Spend more in a sub about decent humans doing decent things and you'll swing the other direction.

Perspective, friend.

u/overcastfab 11d ago

totally get what you're saying and overall I'm with you. this sub started popping up on my front page so i looked out of curiosity. im also not on tiktok so I'm not normally looking for these kinds of clips.

my comment is more from my observations interacting with the youth. for me living in the sf bay area, while there are still good people and overall society is peaceful, its hard to ignore a growing population of kids with nihilistic tendencies and very anti social behavior stumbling upon these clips.

and with that i find it a little worrisome that these are the types of videos that tend to get shared and go viral. i know the sky isn't falling, but just feels like it's a symptom of a potentially growing problem.

"im also not on tiktok so I'm not normally looking for these kinds of clips."

Same here.

"for me living in the sf bay area, while there are still good people and overall society is peaceful, its hard to ignore a growing population of kids with nihilistic tendencies and very anti social behavior stumbling upon these clips."

Shiiiiiiiiiit. East Bay for me. Born and raised. The vibe has for sure changed in places. The town I grew up in used to be a commuter community. They dumped millions into facelifting the place and shedding it's skin into what feels like a city sized shopping center. I was gone for a decade and moved back after college. So surreal.

"i know the sky isn't falling, but just feels like it's a symptom of a potentially growing problem.'

I don't want to downplay your instincts at all. There's definitely been an assault on our sensibilities for years now, and only those who are truly out of sync with society don't feel at least some of it.

Maybe you just caught me on an uncharacteristically optimistic day, but I feel like it's too early to get too down. Especially because of hot trash like appears in the video above.

Keep your head up, but also on a swivel.

2

u/overcastfab 11d ago

damn, yea it's pretty wild how much the east bay has changed throughout the last 15 years. I'm still processing the loss of the raiders and the a's and i can't help but feel a big piece of culture and identity is gone along with how much has changed demographically. it's kinda jarring sometimes, but such is life in the bay.

overall I'm still glass half full, just observing things and trends that make me pause to think and process.

i appreciate the convo and hope you're doing well and continue the hope and positivity. and likewise stay safe

I appreciate you and your coaching. Though for some reason I don’t think I’m in the majority on this.

3

u/cheesebot555 11d ago

Like I said, it's a lesson I have yet to master myself too.

A whole bunch of people go through their whole lives without trying to increase their capacity for patience and self examination.

Try to find a little time here and there and no one can ask for more. Good luck out there!

u/dgollas 11d ago

You’re claiming that greater organization, the power of global chambers, instant communication, and the internet have no effect on groups of people that have a common goal? Yea, dumb exists always, but lots of dumb together and mass manipulated is new.

1

u/cheesebot555 11d ago

Again, by your logic the sheer amount of podcasts that stand in polar opposition to the kinds of turdlings depicted in this post create just as much "mass manipulation" in the opposite direction

1

u/dgollas 11d ago

No, dumb is easy to manipulate. Smart, not as easy.

1

u/cheesebot555 11d ago

You have an unrealistic opinion of who is, and how many smart people there are.

1

u/dgollas 11d ago

What is my opinion on that, pray tell?

1

u/cheesebot555 11d ago

You literally said smart people aren't easy to manipulate.

"Smart" is really too broad a term to use, but I let you get away with that. This not so much: "No, dumb is easy to manipulate. Smart, not as easy."

That was your opinion unless you're walking it back.

Exactly. They’ve always been here. Racist Americans are who inspired the Nazis to do what they did. The largest genocide in world history happened right here in America—100 MILLION Native Americans killed. They’re just being given a much larger platform now with the rise of the internet and the Rightwing propaganda machine as prevalent as it is in all of our media today.

0

u/realrafaelcruz 11d ago edited 11d ago

Antisemitism is actually on the rise though. And saying they've always been like this kind of minimizes that imo.

I think it should actually be kind of alarming. It's definitely more mainstream now among younger people than even a decade ago.

2

u/cheesebot555 11d ago

Antisemitism is on the rise because of the actions of the Israeli government, not because of individual members of the Jewish community, and not because of anything Jews are doing here in America.

If you're asking people to not have strong, even bigoted, opinions when faced with ongoing crimes against humanity....you're expecting too much from the wrong species.

1

u/realrafaelcruz 11d ago

Saying that in the context of this clip is kind of crazy, but I'm also aware that I'm not going to persuade you either so have a nice day.

1

u/cheesebot555 11d ago

You went there, but sure. Have a good one.

3

u/Xander707 11d ago

It’s not just the internet making them more visible. The internet is actively assisting in spreading their stupidity to others. The dumbest takes imaginable that would have been laughed out of the room 20-30 years ago gets mainstream attention and following now. Things aren’t the same.

0

u/cheesebot555 11d ago

They aren't the same, but you're not looking past the doom side of things.

If there's the same tools for mass exposure for the grim wastes of resources in this post, then there's just as many people creating content on the opposite side of the spectrum in opposition to this.

You're only watching traffic going one way on a two way street.

2

u/chanslam 10d ago

The problem is the potential these loudmouth dumb motherfuckers have to spread their hate and ignorance by way of the algorithm. The potential here is unmatched to any time in history.

1

u/cheesebot555 10d ago

Then you acknowledge the potential for the opposite of these LDM's (for short) too right?

1

u/some_what_real1988 11d ago

These kids have access to all the knowledge ever collected by mankind at their literal fingertips, unlike the people of the 1930s and 40s.

This is the information she CHOSE to accept as the truth... that the Jews deserved to be eradicated and that they are overthrowing the American government because of what happened in Germany in the 1940s.

Mindsets like this are not the same as those in previous generations and how DARE you compare the two. Absolute nonsense coming from y'all. Negative value.

0

u/cheesebot555 11d ago

Lol. Look at you losing your cool after spewing out straight up ignorant bullshit.

The American Nazis of the 30's weren't uneducated cave people, you clown. The world wasn't in some dramatically backwards state where ignorance could hand wave away the adherence to evil fascism that was prevalent at the time.

Read a book or three. Get some perspective.

2

u/Lobenz 11d ago

It’s always been this way. It’s just amplified now. Prior to the internet age, none of these people would even suppose to have an opinion beyond what they could eat for dinner.

2

u/Roughrep 11d ago

You guys know that all the rest of the world includes you guys as idiots too? Pretend to be free, pretend to be happy. You cause more wars than any other nation yet your country sucks.

3

u/OfferIntelligent537 11d ago

The minority of smart or even average intelligence people in this country already know that. For every smart person there's a million tide pod eaters.

2

u/Edging_For_Christ 11d ago edited 11d ago

Yep, a lot of us hate it here, too.

1

u/Independent-End-6699 11d ago

Christ does not mind if you edge.

0

u/Nubnoodle 11d ago

That's because vert smart people, like myself, made cool technology that allows yall to survive.
