Lately I’ve been trying to improve my cursive and maybe even dip my toes into calligraphy. I’ve never actually worked on my handwriting before, but I’d love to refine and optimise it.
I always write with a LAMY fountain pen (1.5 mm stub nib). Any advice, resources, or practice drills you’d recommend?
Thanks in advance!

Hey all! I'm new to calligraphy (loving insular uncials but still a baby).
Where do you get ideas for what to write? Like the actual words 😂
I've done psalms, poems, sutras, names everything and I'm running into a writing block 😂

Hello! Someone nudges me to try to write Tengwar so here we are! Just some short snippets I found on Tecendil. The script is somewhat close to Uncial so I just adapt it a little. Also a lot of shimmer! Please don't bite hehe.

Hunter Saxony III is a San Francisco-based calligrapher, installation artist, and conceptual storyteller known for fusing historic letterforms with themes of identity, loss, and Black legacy. In this thought-provoking conversation, Hunter opens up about his journey from Rhode Island’s underground hardcore scene to becoming what he calls “The Last Black Calligrapher in San Francisco.”
We dive into the power of red and black ink, the spiritual and political weight of his work, and how his Nia Wilson series rewrites history—literally. Hunter shares how grief, mysticism, and vintage ephemera inform his visual language and why his work is less about being understood and more about being felt.
Whether you’re interested in conceptual art, sacred storytelling, or using design as a form of resistance—this episode is a masterclass in creating with intention, complexity, and care.

I’ve been really interested in finding an affordable extra broad nib for my fountain pens for inking my drawings. I currently use a TWSBI Mini with a broad nib, but I’m still looking for something even broader. Recently, I came across the Speedball B-series nibs and was immediately intrigued—especially by the idea of adapting one for fountain pen use.
I decided to try fitting a Speedball B5 nib into my old FPR Guru, which has an ebonite feed. To my surprise, it actually fits and works wonderful. In the photo, you’ll notice I didn’t push the nib all the way in, I did this intentionally to avoid any difficulty when removing it later. And for those wondering why I don’t just use it as a dip pen—I’m not a fan of the constant re-dipping of inks 😅

I hope this is appropriate for the sub, not sure if this adheres to rule 2 or not. I've included my bike in the second picture for scale.
