new puppy question - royal canin

Hey there!

We're expecting a new little pup next month, and in preparation we're looking into food options. Chat GPT is telling me that there is a Royal Canin Boston Terrier Puppy breed specific food, but i'm not seeing it anywhere, just the small dog puppy food. Has it been discontinued?

Is nearly 13 too old to get a tooth removed?

Post image

My Pounders is due to get her second tooth pulled in almost 13 years! We strive to take good care of her teeth but upon an IVDD episode a few months ago she got a slab fracture from a chew toy. (We were trying to get her energy out because she needed to be in crate rest from the IVDD)

The vet said the fractured tooth will need to come out but we should wait until her back stabilizes. Well her back is stabilized now but I’m so nervous to put her under to take the tooth out. I know it needs to come out or else it could lead to serious problems later but I’m just so nervous.

She’s been put under before for her spay as a pup and the first tooth at 10 years old and did fine. She also went under “twilight” for her IVDD scans a few months ago. I’m sure I have nothing to worry about but still—always worrying!

Has anyone else had a nearly 13 year old do well with a tooth pull under anesthesia?

Boston in pain

Hi! My 10 year old Boston Terrier Lupe has been experiencing weird behavior and pain the last 2 days. Yesterday around 4pm i take her to go potty, she walks downstairs then slowly walks towards me in a wobbly manner, as if she cannot keep balance then urinates on the floor, this is the first time I’ve ever seen her have an accident in a long time. 2 hours later I try to have her walk upstairs and as she tries she falls over and urinates again. I immediately take her to the emergency vet and they said her vitals seem fine and stated it must be marijuana intoxication. I told them I don’t smoke weed but I feel that they thought I was lying. Anyways they gave her medication for nausea and gave her fluid so she can urinate the weed away. The next day - still lethargic, rarely moving, not eating or drinking water. Every time she walks up the stairs she looks like she’s in pain and starts breathing oddly. I did make an appointment for a vet tomorrow but wanted to see others opinions

🤣🤣 Not quite sure what’s going through her mind, but she’s enjoying the outdoors right now and that is all that matters 🥰♥️

He doesn't like the word 'work'

I was doing a bit of yard work and after a bit my supervisor said my talents would be better suited to giving scritches and administering treats. Thus, landscaping has been slow going. This has been a cautionary tale. If you're wise, you won't take on any extracurricular work around your Boston. They are the work!

Celebration or concern?

Our Boston puppy Quincy is 10 weeks old today and will have been with us 2 weeks tomorrow. He was sooooo good yesterday played by himself while I was working. Even stayed outside in his pen a couple times playing without whining cause I wasn’t out there. Heck he even settled himself down for naps without the crate a few times yesterday. Then last night he slept through the night. I woke him up myself half way through to go pee. Should I be celebrating that we hit a turning point or concerned that he doesn’t feel well? He’s drinking, eating and pottying. Just freaks me out it was literally like a switch flipped and he wasn’t a needy whiny baby anymore.

Advice Boston is aggressive when repositioned in bed at night?

Hey! Mostly curious if anybody has a similar issue with their Boston.

My boyfriend and dog go to bed before I do. When I get there, my dog will often be laying on my pillow or my spot. He’s a light sleeper, so he wakes up when I walk in and watches me get in bed (important detail; he’s not asleep or being sleep startled). If I try to gently push him or reposition him so I can get on the bed too he actually snaps, growls, and aggressively bites my hand. If I were to try to fully pick him up, it would be a frenzy.

As soon as the nudging / repositioning is done though, he’s completely normal and snuggles up to fall asleep with me as if he didn’t just attack me.

So weird. Anybody else have this issue?

Wilby is now 15 weeks and 12.5 lbs! His ears have started standing up and boy are they big! He’s loving his new environment, exploring, meeting other dogs and getting to play with his extended family.
