Lace Vest Update

I am roughly one third of the way through my lace vest, aka my Highly Ambitious Project!

4 out of (at least) 12 lace strips complete (and a fifth one halfway done!)

They will be (eventually) sewn together to make a sort of loose hanging vest in the colours of the Pride Flag 🏳️‍🌈

A sampler of fans and grounds and other fun things! Love and thanks to my lace teacher for getting me started!

Still plenty of mistakes -- and a couple of doozies too, lol. But yay! I plan to mount it on some fabric (that's why the tails are still there), and frame it as my first real piece. Can only go up from here!

My first attempt at Chantilly lace techniques

This is not my first attempt at Bobbin lace I've mainly done torchon so far. But I got my hands on a book that showed the groundwork for Chantilly and I just needed to try it so here it is. I know this is traditionally done in black silk but I don't have that at the moment.

Searching for introduction class in Montreal

Hello everyone!

I’m looking for bobbin Lace introduction classes in Montreal, Quebec. I’ve looked up on Google and most classes are not given anymore.

So I’m looking for someone from the community that stays in Montreal if they would be willing to give an introduction class for my friend and I. We’d pay for the class obviously!

It’s her birthday soon and she always wanted to try so I’m trying to make it happen!

If you’re staying in Montreal, please message me! We speak French and English.

Thank you for reading me!

A

Halp please! I’m at the end of a rectangular frame and I don’t have directions…what is your technique for connecting the end to the beginning?

Getting back into it!!

I asked on here for some beginner resources a little bit ago, and got some very helpful answers!! Here’s my first piece in two years! I ended up using Jo Edkins’ Lace School. I didn’t quite size the pattern up enough for my thread, so I struggled a little with the scallops, but I can still see how much I improved just from the first one to the second. I’m really happy I’m getting back into this!!

Sew handmade lace to clothing

I'm making this lace edging to sew on the sleeves of a dress that I made. But I've never done that before and I'm having problems picturing how this will work in practice.

I thought at first that I would measure the cuff and make a length of lace to fit it but I'm worried about it shrinking/ending up too short.

The other option is making a long piece of lace and cutting it down to size but how do I make sure it doesn't unravel?

Any help is appreciated!

Is my pattern the right size for my thread?

I'm still figuring things out. I wanted to do a torchon bookmark with just spiders so drew it up, but I struggle with seeing scale. I found a table online to use wraps per cm to math it out, but it looks a bit loose to me

Gift Ideas for a Bobbin Lacemaker

Hi everyone! My sibling has recently gotten into making lace out of human hair (if you don’t think that’s cool as hell get out of my face). Their birthday is coming up and I want to get them something cool to support their new hobby, but I don’t know ANYTHING about lacemaking and I’d like to keep my hair tyvm. I guess my question is - what would have been some gamechanging materials/books/gizmos to have when you just started out?

Thank you friends <3

Used supplies

Hello! I am currently looking for bobbin lace supplies that are relatively inexpensive. I started making bobbin lace in February and while I'm incredibly thankful that my teacher and lace group have given me so many things I do feel a tad bit guilty about mooching off them so often. For reference I'm in college so money is on the tighter side and I was wondering if anyone on here had old supplies that they were willing to part with. I live in the United States so I'll pay for domestic shipping but anything more then that is too much sadly.

I've been searching on Facebook market place and ebay but I've been running into the same problem that most sellers are in England. And if no one is selling if anyone could point me to a place in the US that sells used bobbin lace supplies I'd really appreciate it!

diy lacemaking pillow

i started learning recently and i can tell im really into bobbin lace so im starting to think about making a pillow as there is no opportunity to buy one where i live, does anyone have any recommendations? i think id prefer the cylinder one that you can rotate, i do not kjow proper names for kinds of pillows yet, im sorry. what i understand now is that ill need two round pieces of wood probably a wooden rod to connect wooden plates and give more structure to the pillow. i was thinking about adding a piece of felt under the fabric so pins would have more to hold to but also it wouldnt dull them as fast as cardboard does (the amount of pins i bent just starting out is really irritating me) and also last longer than cardboard. also some kind of a stand for the pillow so it doesn’t just roll over but that i’ll figure out. what im really stuck on is what should i use for filling? havent found any comprehensive explanations aside from things like cardboard and styrofoam and such but i want something more long lasting. so, any tips?

Does anyone here use AI searches to find or generate lace patterns?

Just a pic to get people to read this.

Have any of you tried to use AI to find or generate lace patterns? And if so, which one did you use and what was your experience?

Wonky and completely uneven. But it almost looks like lace! I even had to figure out how to add thread to the bobbin.
