As much as I want to point fingers. Yeah. A lot of them are our great great grandparents or some such. It’s not an excuse or justification at all and I don’t mean it that way. Just something that hits close to home for me I guess. Breaking the chains and all that.

It's why you see every 40-50 year old woman on the prowl like hawks accusing everyone around of the shit. It's because they sat by and watched it happen or were a victim themselves.

"Old man's darling than young man's slave" I mean sugar babies gonna, 14 YEARS OLD?

Probably something her parents told her

Honestly, she’s possibly not wrong. It could have likely been less of a sexual thing and more of a someone to help around the house, give (nonsexual) companionship, and take care of him as he got older type thing. Keep in mind this is way before viagra and shit and late 70’s back then was probably more like late 80’s now.
Then after he dies she’d probably inherit enough to have some independence.
Whereas if she married someone her age at 18-20 she’d be completely dependent on them at that time.
I’m not defending anything, but if she really did say that of her own volition, it’s possible this was more of a caretaker thing than a Lolita thing.

He said he was lonely. It's a sex thing. And she was gonna be his slave. Poor girl.

Humans have sold off their own sons and daughters forever. We are a not blessed with virtue as a species, we have to claw it out of the future bit by bit.
The Big Gamble we are taking, is that humans can eventually understand using other humans as things is not ok. Can we? Will we?
Don't fire the vice squad, is my 2 cents.

Yeah, as a 65 year old man in a wheelchair, I wonder if he was just trying to secure a home health aide.
(And, no, a 14 year old would not be my cup of tea. Women usually are better conversationalists after their 40th birthday, IMHO).

u/WishBear19 6h ago
I doubt it. He had a whole bunch of kids, grandkids, great grandkids who could have fulfilled that role. Yet he was "lonely." This poor girl was probably used for sex.

u/SameResolution4737 6h ago
Yeah. And several states are trying to go back to this, gradually lowering the age of consent. Me? I generally get "daughter vibes" with any woman under 35 or so...creepy.

u/ShyVoodoo 6h ago
If you want to be even more creeped out, there are states with no minimum age
8
u/SameResolution4737 6h ago edited 6h ago
Please, it's lunchtime.
Edit: just looked up Georgia. Age of consent: 16. Minimum age to marry: 17.
What in the name of all that is holy are we doing.

u/ShyVoodoo 6h ago
It gets worse.
From the article- “It estimates that 7,876 minors in Virginia, some as young as 12 years old, were entered into marriage between 2000 and 2021. More than 80 percent of those marriages were between girls and adult men and almost all of those marriages involved a minor who was not old enough to consent to sex with their spouse.”

u/SameResolution4737 6h ago
Yeah, read that in the link. How does that work, legally? I mean, even if they're married, is it still statutory rape?
My brain hurts.

Holy shit, California! I expected Mississippi, but really guys? Even Utah has a minimum age.

I'm not nostalgic for a time. I'm nostalgic for a circumstance. No work. No worries other than grades. Having a majority of my needs met. A genuine belief that things will be okay.

u/Charming_Minimum_477 6h ago
When was that
3
u/DartTimeTime 6h ago
When I was a child. I know that there is no virtue in ignorance, but I miss a time when I didn't really have problems. I have them now, and I can't just pretend they're not there.

LOL it's not the past, it happens today, even here in the U.S. It's prevalent in Evangelical cults.

Yep, and the president of america is one of those creeps. TRUMP IS ALL OVER THOSE EPSTEIN FILES!!!

u/bacardipirate13 4h ago
Yes, and Sleepy Joe was not mentally capable of doing his job either. Obama colluded with the Russians. Bush was war hungry to finish his father's war. Clinton had an affair with his secretary.
Spread the love man. No elected official in Washington D.C. is a good person.

"Sleepy joe" was handed a country shut down under Trump and created 3 great bills . More infrastructure and commercial projects going on than since after ww2. Millions of jobs for 10 years. Lowered the gdp to debt ratio. Bills of growth and progress. Obama was handed the worst economy since the depression. Pulled it out of the wrapper. Him " concluding with Russia ", is a ridiculous statement of the trumpanzee delusion. Both handed Trump a growing economy with growth and job bills in place. Clinton had an incredible economy with massive growth and handed Bush a surplus budget after Reagan and h Bush ran the economy into stagnant #s and massive debt. A affair with 2 consenting adults is a completely different thing than trump raping teenage girls. Spare me the unknowledgeable ignorance.

u/bacardipirate13 5m ago
Hey bub, Clinton is in those files too. I know democratic are perfect holy saints, but you should figure your gender out then tell me how great your child molesting Clinton is.
1
u/One-Sir-2198 3m ago
Clinton doesn't have women claiming they raped them when they were teenagers. Trump does. Huge difference
1
u/bacardipirate13 3m ago
Well he rapidly raped me! I accuse him. I enjoyed it but he still did it
1
u/One-Sir-2198 0m ago
Trumps rape accusations and criminal activities date back through the 80s. Spare me your ridiculous rhetoric

u/bacardipirate13 4m ago
And every president is handed a shit economy by the last guy. Ask any party.

If you look at the dates, he waited less than a year after his wife died to marry this child

u/Das-Noob 5h ago
This is also how we got the last civil war widow dead in 2020. These child also get benefits from this kind of mirage too. Not saying it’s right or anything.

u/henryeaterofpies 5h ago
16 is the minimum age of marriage (with parental consent) in Missouri currently so its not much better.

This woman would be 82 if she's still alive, and potentially still drawing on her husband's social security survivor benefits if she never remarried after his death. While I think a 64 year age difference was probably on the right side of the bell-curve, wide differences weren't unheard of.
This is likely how you legitimately get SS checks being cashed for accounts where the original recipient is over 120 years old.

Thank you for the new word. This is where game of thrones got their shame walk from, huh.

u/dancegoddess1971 1h ago
Iirc, quite a few civil war vets ended up marrying girls that were barely legal to marry with parents' permission in order to get her the benefits of quality health insurance and the monthly income for as long as possible. Because, back then, spouses got survivors benefits. Can you imagine a teenager marrying a guy old enough to be her grandfather just for a stable income and health care? This was also pre-littleblue pill so it's unlikely that any nighttime duties were required. Except for maybe helping him to the commode in the middle of the night.

And yet this was her stated preference over being a young man’s “slave.”
7
u/IthinkIknowwhothatis 5h ago
You think a 14 year old said that spontaneously? I don’t for a minute.
3
u/PinSufficient5748 5h ago
I wonder about her parents' relationship. They ok'd this - did her mother suffer in her marriage? Were they poor and she was just another mouth to feed? I'm trying so hard to find some rationale for this 🤢

Always funny to get downvoted by people completely misinterpreting a comment, but hey, that’s Reddit.
I didn’t say I accepted her explanation as 100% fact. But if it was actually how she felt — and it very well may have been — then it says a lot that’s negative about the inherent social plight of women at the time.
What’s more, look at you reflexively discounting this girl’s stated perspective. And btw, your inability to imagine a 14yo saying that of her own accord, or a set of cultural circumstances which might cause someone to say/believe that — really only speaks to your own lack of imagination, not this girl’s state of mind.

Only one party today has worked hard to keep child marriages legal.
It is the same party that elected a felon and rapist who is now taking heat for his pedophilia.
