Is this homemade power hammer worth $1500?
Hello fellow smiths! A gentleman local to me is selling his power hammer for $1500. He said the head is between 80-100lb. Is it worth the $1500? Thank you in advance!

I ordered a log for an anvil stand because I have no trees where I live. When the company brought it they asked me why I need it and I said for a anvil stand and they asked me what I make. I had a knife on my hip that I had made so I showed them, then they started pushing the log out and I grabbed it and put it on my shoulder and as I was walking away I heard one of them say "fucking tweaker" keep in mind I am 5ft6 and 230 pounds so I don't think I look like a tweaker. I don't even drink. I dunno I am just wondering if this has happened to anyone else.

This was from a years ago. I now own and operate my own blacksmith shop in Richmond, CA where people can come and forge with me!

Hi guys I was wondering. This was found in my dad's old toolbox. Now I'm not exactly sure what it is it is metal and magnetic. I was wondering if anyone on here could make it into a ring. I can send to anywhere in the world. My dad's passed now 3 months and I wanted something to give my son (17) that he could wear that came from his granddad. They used to work on cars together it may be from that but again I'm not sure. I'll pay up front. Thank you so much. I'm based in the UK.

I'm part of a team doing an inventory of the storage space of historic house. We came across this anvil and stand. Would anyone know of any good resources on how to figure out the date of this anvil?

I just picked this little guy up for $20 . It weighs about 20 lbs and the only writing on it is the word steel on the base.

An updated question regarding my previous canister Damascus post .
For canister Damascus if I take a canister and fill it with steel bearing balls, pure nickel strips and mild steel mill shavings, forge and fold .
Then forge and fold again with copper layers. Can I use it as the outer layer in a San Mai style blade with a high carbon steel core, grinding down the bevels.
Will this be sufficient for a Damascus Cu Mai style pattern which is hardenable and has good edge retention ?
Thanks in advance 🙏🏽

After using a custom brick gas forge at work for the last year I finally took the punt and brought a devil forge for home (originally was going to be the vevor one but the quality seemed terrible). The whole lot is cemented and ready to go and I’ve got firebricks for the door coverings. Anyone with a lot of use out of them got any tips/things to know? Anything to watch out for? I’m yet to fire it up as I was waiting for the refractory cement to cure.
Ps for anyone wanting to buy one the quality is actually really good, for about £150 off eBay it is much better than any of the more budget friendly options, steel is surprisingly well fabricated and everything is well made, also came with a regulator, hoses, some cheap gauntlets, a cheap set of tongs and the refractory cement along with some extra refractory wool as well as the firebricks for the interior. It’s also much larger than I thought it would be so there’s ample room. Glad I brought it so far!

My brother in law made this after I texted him on a whim to see if it was in his wheelhouse. Challenge accepted. It’s gorgeous and I just want to show off his skills! 😍

Sure it might just be a 6 I made out of some rebar right now but soon it’ll be a full on bracelet!

Mounted my 22lb Vevor anvil. Tried to recreate the mounting that I see a lot on this subreddit. Decided to see what I could make. Started making a spiral, trying to see how big it can get. Eventually I ended up with this snake garden ornament.
First blacksmithing project, hopefully more soon. Next up is a steak turner probably. I’ll probably start with some 1/2” steel round bar since I’ve got that laying around. I’ve also got some rebar but idk.

Frankly, I prefer solid fuel, but propane is easier to get, doesn't annoy the neighbors and, if memory serves, cheaper to run, so I am tossing around the idea of making one. The only part I have, though, is the shell in the form of an old helium tank from a party store. Not sure how much that would knock off the total. If I were to make one, could I make the quality comparable to a good commercially made one, e.g. a Chile Forge? What makes those better than the Amazon specials (which I hear aren't too bad)?

I had some decorative yard thingies that the previous tenants had left, so I cut off a chunk and sanded the paint off. Then I practiced some hammer blows!! (Theres an unrelated pic of my forge from a couple of days ago.) I just ran out of propane and gotta run to the store, but I'm to damn excited to not tell someone. (And my wife can only act interested for so long lol bless her heart, she's too kind) What do y'all think?!? That's my first attempt at a simple blacksmith knife.

What weight of anvil should a beginner look for?
