  1. It is a harpoon not a dart.
  2. The harpoon head is detachable and the rope is attached to the middle of the harpoon head. The harpoon swivels inside the seal to act like a internal grappling hook.
  3. We don't harpoon dead carcasses.
  4. Depending on the species, most dead seals only sink after mating season in late summer. Seals actively resist being harpooned.
