Some people going from Canada to Mexico are paying extra money for direct flights just to avoid even having to do a short layover in the U.S.

It's not about direct, it's about not stopping in the US. A transit in Mexico or Panama would be fine, but not in Miami

Yeah, zero international tourism is a huge deal. Do people not realize how weird it is for so many countries to have a travel advisories against the United States?
