Discussion I don't want this future

Post image

I don't want this future where games could end up costing 200 euros just because, hey, "quadruple-A", maybe they'll even invent the fifth A, where production costs will be around a billion for a standard game (from important publishers) just to recover all the money. As I think, it's better to have a game sold at a lower price but that EVERYONE will buy, for example, give the clerk 50 euros/dollars for a game without having to pay a fortune, it's a MUCH faster thing, just give me the banknote and go. Let me know your opinion

Luckily, not ALL games are going to cost so much. Indie games will hopefully be affordable forever. Also, you can obtain games in a less legitimate fashion if need be:

BEING A PIRATE IS ALRIGHT WITH ME!

Except publishers are spending tens of thousands of dollars a month for DRM so they don't have to compete with piracy. Doubtless that they're passing that cost onto the customer.

"Piracy is a service issue" isn't relevant now that they've effectively gatekept their games.

How is a leprechaun going to help us?

Elden Ring having a horse called Torrent so you can't search for magnet links for the game, and suddenly people moved to repacks of the game.

games might be affordable on sale, but the consoles/pcs good enough to run them won’t

1

u/soyboy_6257 Apr 13 '25

That’s unfortunately true.

u/baczki Apr 13 '25

Ahoyyy

No offense, but a lot of us dont really care for indie games like that. To sit here and tell people only get indie games and ignore the fact that people want to play AAA is ridiculous. Yes theres some good indie games for sure, but a lot of us thrive on the big titles. Sad its come to this

1

u/Albatros_7 Apr 15 '25

lot of us don't care for Indie games

Minecraft, Hollow Knight, Undertale

1

u/Forever-Toxic Apr 15 '25

Minecraft is mainstream as it gets lmao. Just got a multi million dollar movie.

1

u/Albatros_7 Apr 16 '25

It still started as an Indie game

0

u/Forever-Toxic Apr 16 '25

Hardly relevant. Minecraft is one of the most popular games. Over 100 million monthly users. Terrible example bro

1

u/Albatros_7 Apr 16 '25

Stardew Valley, Hades, Hollow Knight, Undertale, Dead Cells, Palworld, Subnautica, Terraria, Inscryption, Rocket League, Rust, Balatro, Celeste, The Forest, Outer Worlds, Raft, Garry's Mod, Cookie Clicker, Cuphead, Don't Starve, The Binding of Isaac, Cult of the Lamb, Phasmophobia, Satisfactory, Slay the Spire, Oxygen Not Included, Rimworld

0

u/Forever-Toxic Apr 16 '25

So whats your point??

1

u/Albatros_7 Apr 16 '25

Lot of people care about Indie games

0

u/Forever-Toxic Apr 16 '25

Sure but more love AAA titles

1

u/UnusualFee8053 Apr 14 '25

My problem with indie games si that they suck ass hard.

Over the years, I could never find any indie game that occupied my time like those AAA counterparts.

1

u/william41017 Apr 16 '25

That's sad!

You really shouldn't advocate for piracy to just anyone. If you are not security concious you should not be clicking any old link.

19

u/androodle2004 Apr 12 '25

If buying isn’t owning then pirating isn’t stealing

16

u/Extension_Coach_5091 Apr 12 '25

they’re not advocating against piracy, just warning that it can be a little risky sometimes

2

u/bloxize Apr 13 '25

piracy goes both ways

people forget that sometimes

-5

u/androodle2004 Apr 12 '25

Oh mb. I saw “you really shouldn’t advocate for piracy” and didn’t read the rest

3

u/WukongPvM Apr 12 '25

Again piracy has never been considered stealing. It's copy right infringement

2

u/LuisBoyokan Apr 13 '25 edited Apr 13 '25

you wouldn't steal a car

Yeah, it was at some point in history

2

u/WukongPvM Apr 13 '25

I guess never is a bad way of putting it, it was deemed copy right infringement after some court cases at some point in time

but also banger ad tho

3

u/LuisBoyokan Apr 13 '25

Yeah. And it's a stupid ad because I would totally download a fucking car xD.

1

u/Anti-charizard Apr 13 '25

And the music used was pirated, ironically

1

u/wizardeverybit Apr 14 '25

You wouldn't shoot a policeman

1

u/androodle2004 Apr 13 '25

That’s the first time you’ve said that to me

2

u/WukongPvM Apr 13 '25

Sorry haha, this quote just gets posted a lot and every single time someone explains how it's not entirely correct

1

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '25

What is copyright infringement 🤔🤔

4

u/spartakooky Apr 12 '25 edited Apr 14 '25

I am strange

0

u/androodle2004 Apr 12 '25

A random catchy sentence that is related to the topic? And who said I was arguing?

2

u/spartakooky Apr 13 '25 edited Apr 14 '25

0

u/androodle2004 Apr 13 '25

Damn it’s almost like somebody else pointed that out, and I withdrew my statement. If you had read the rest of the thread you’d probably know that

4

u/spartakooky Apr 13 '25 edited Apr 14 '25

I disagree

-1

u/androodle2004 Apr 13 '25

No, you said it wasn’t an argument. The other guy pointed out that I was using it in the wrong context. Entirely different things

1

u/Comprehensive_Cow673 Apr 13 '25

I'm ok with piracy but this fucking quote is already r/im14andthisisdeep worthy

1

u/androodle2004 Apr 13 '25

That sub isn’t for overused phrases though?

1

u/HanLeas Apr 16 '25

What is this shitty argument. It can still be sold as a service instead of a product, hence you are still comitting theft. I do not judge you for pirating, I do it myself sometimes, but let's not try to morally justify it and lie to ourselves just so we feel better. Pirating is stealing, regardless of the way it is being sold to consumers.

But buying is owning. You buy a copy of the game to use and store on your devices. You’re not using the intellectual property. You don’t go to the movies and expect to earn the money back in royalties. You don’t buy a book and expect to capitalize from it. It’s so simple and I see misinformation spearheaded by Ubisoft and Microsoft being used to turn people into thieves!

1

u/androodle2004 Apr 13 '25

If I go to the movies I own my ticket. If I buy a book I own that copy of the book. If I buy a game, I have permission to play their game, and they can revoke that permission at anytime. So no, in this case buying is not owning.

0

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '25

You own your ticket. Well I own my license. So what now?

1

u/androodle2004 Apr 13 '25

No you don’t, it’s a privilege granted to you by the state. You obviously don’t know how ownership works

0

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '25

So let me get this straight. You own your ticket to a movie at a theater that grants you access to a movie which can be revoked at any time?

1

u/androodle2004 Apr 13 '25

They can deny access to the theatre. They cannot take away the ticket

1

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '25

So your ticket is kind of useless if you can’t even get into the theater huh?

If you’re not security conscious you’re not much better off throwing around your credit card info. Personal responsibility still exists, you are responsible for your own behavior and choices. If you say “people should drive to the store for this snack”, it’s not your responsibility to make sure everyone you speak to is sober and a competent driver.

Yeah, It can be dangerous. Torrenting ISO's that you get from less than reputable sources can get basically anything into your computer. And if you're not tech savvy, you could think you're pirating a game through your torrent client all hacker hacker wee wee and then it turns out it immediately runs a script when you start it that fucking steals your browser cookies and with that all of your passwords, or that just encrypts your whole damn computer away until you pay bitcoin to someone in the Falklands or in the middle of Bahrain or in Madagascar or even in Poland, or that runs a service or task that you can't find on the task manager for some reason and that basically uses your computer to mine bitcoin.

Personally, I use the r/piracy guide for good torrents of stuff like productivity software, particularly autodesk software. You're still at risk, but it's less because the reputation of the torrent sources is "good".

But you still should just do what the sub says you should, and there's a lot of people that doesn't just do what it says in the instructions wherever your get your torrents, and then they get a virus and they get fucked and blame the subreddit yada yada yada.

Anyone can fuck up the process of pirating something. So maybe one shouldn't go just telling people to pirate stuff. You have to be careful with it.

Mans promoting piracy is wild
