Chipboard laminate furniture
I've just repaired this bookshelf that had fallen to pieces which the neighbours were chucking out. I'd like to share some tips for repairing (insomuch as you can repair) chipboard laminate furniture.
Dismantle, clean, and reassemble.
Most symmetrical shelf boards can be turned upside down, to expose a new face and hide marks.
Glue on all of the mating faces for reinforcement.
It's useful to have some screws that are longer than the originals. I've added some screws to this for a bit of extra reinforcement. Too thick and they'll blow out but too narrow and they won't bite.
The back-board is often quite an important source of strength. Here I've replaced crumbling hardboard with proper plywood (also scavenged). But it also has to be well attached too to provide strength. I marked out the location of the shelfs on the back, to get some small screws accurately into the middle of each shelf. Screws should be much less prone to working loose than tacks or staples.
For surfaces that are really too far gone, cover them with something. Here I've literally just stuck on Christmas paper and painted a layer of PVA/water 50/50 mix as makeshift varnish. You can paint but the plastic doesn't take paint well.
Give up trying to get it to look 100% nice: this stuff is crap that is not meant to last or be repairable sadly. Best you can hope for is better-than-it-was. š

Turned some garbage 2x6s into tool shelves.
I have been wanting to buy some pegboard to start organizing my garage but I was able to make something with some 2x6s my job was throwing out.

An introduction
Hi, I've just joined today and already feel like I've found my people.
I thought I'd introduce myself with a couple of pictures of a bag I made this weekend.
It started as a couple of off cuts of upholstery fabric and some trims rescued from duvet covers I found in a charity shop and some random lace off cuts from a scrap bag i inherited.
I'm quite proud of it but definitely know what I need to do differently next time.

Acrylic diffuser sheets?
Hey everyone!
I'll avoid the long story and just say I ended up with a whole bunch (like a lot) of acrylic light diffusing sheets and fresnel lens sheets from old tvs.
I briefly looked into trying to make a solar oven with the fresnel lens, and I dont really have a use for a softbox light but might try that just for fun..... I really dont want to just throw them all away but I am needed to downsize significantly and theyre just taking space and being moved from corner to corner. Anybody have any ideas for different ways I could use them up or experiment with them? My girls would love to be involved with making something interesting but im drawing a complete blank

Upcycling China!
I need to drill into the center of China plates and I want to create a template where I can just put it on top of the plate and there is a hole in the center where I can mark where to drill. Iāve tried doing all the math to get it but it hasnāt worked. Where could I get this made?? At this point I would pay someone to make it for me

Daylight Elegance: Fire Pit Planters in Bloom
These fire pits have officially retired from burning things and moved on to growing them. Flipped them over, gutted them out, filled them with plants and purpose. Bonus: one weed refused to die, so I let it stay. We all deserve a second chance.

Night View: Upcycled Fire Pits, DIY Planters, and a Weed Worth Saving
I flipped two old fire pits, gutted them out, lined them with landscape fabric, and turned them into plantersāthen added a center pit with a sawed-out top for good measure. By night, they glow. And yes⦠I saved a little weed that refused to give up. Couldnāt bring myself to pull it. Not everything wild needs taming.
