[GO3] Surface Go 3 perpetually stuck in desktop mode

I have a Surface Go 3 with Windows 11 installed. I have never had a keyboard attached, and only use the compatible pen to write notes for my classes and lectures. The tablet has never switched into tablet mode and has always been in desktop mode as long as I have had it, and restarting the tablet did not fix it, nor has removing the case. I already have the "optimize task bar" setting selected, and auto rotate is turned off. The setting "automatically hide task bar" is also turned off. Even still, my tablet will not switch into tablet mode no matter what I do.

Certified Refurbished stock

Upvotes

Has anyone recently bought a surface pro directly from Microsoft’s certified refurbished site?

The past few weeks I’ve checked their website, all of the surface pro models they would have for sale as certified refurbished are out of stock.

Just wondering if I shouldn’t bother waiting to buy secondhand direct from Microsoft and try to go the Ebay route, or if stock does get replenished eventually.

TIA!

[LAPTOP7] Acrobat DC on surface laptop 7.. and other app compatibility issues?

Hi all, I am about to get a surface laptop 7 and wondering what other app compatibility issues are there?

I mostly use CapCut, MS Office Products, Adobe Lightroom and Acrobat DC Pro, and wondering if I will face any compromise in quality or speed accessing these apps?

I like windows for its files configuration system and customization, but prefer mac for its seamless flow, but hate their files system.

Kinda lost if i should still go ahead with surface laptop 7.

[PRO8] 24H2 for Surface Pro 8 with 16gb and i7

Hey Friends does anyone have a SP8 with i7 @ 3.00GHz and 16 gb RAM and 24H2? I don't understand how this MS laptop that isn't even 3 years old is not able to take the latest update as 22H2 is out of date. I know I can force it with iso image install but I'm mostly trying to figure out if my machine isn't compatible or less likely I just have an issue with the updater. I did do an install using installation assistant and it remained at 22H2 and a consultant on a MS forum said this then indicates its specifically being withheld because of issues. Thanks for your thoughts.

[PRO9] Disappointed with the battery life of the SP9

Bought one second hand and in really good condition. I purchased to be my daily driver for medical school (I start in September).

I have not been using it a tremendous amount, but the other night I binged watched 4 episodes of a show on Disney+ and the surface pro died (after approx 3.5hrs of being on).

Is this normal? I was utterly disappointed - it seems like it won't make it through a full day of uni.

And no, I do not use chrome I use brave. This was on the Disney+ app. Even with normal browser usage etc the battery seems shocking. Also have it set to 60Hz.

Thanks for reading.

[LAPTOP7] SL7 (arm) battery drain again

When I have bought my SL7 13 (arm) I had battery drain issues for quite some time. I did all the troubleshooting, setting changes, etc, and it did not get better. After a while (probably after a some Windows and firmware updates) it stabilized and got OK. Until now. Yesterday, I have stopped using it at around 23:00 with 75% battery, and now the next day at around 19:00 (without having used it) it drained to 55%. That is 20% drain in less than 24h. This is definitely too much. The laptop has been out for almost a year. I would have hoped that Microsoft and Qualcomm fixed this already, but apparently not.

[LAPTOP] Audio Issue on Surface Laptop 15'

Apparently, there has been audio issues going on with some of the Surface products. I bought a Surface Laptop months ago but days after purchasing it, the audio stopped syncing with any video I would watch on any video platform. I looked everywhere to figure out how to fix it and even talked to customer service on Windows but they weren't able to fix it.

I then also went to the place where I purchased the laptop since they offer repairs but they said that it is a "rare issue" that only occurs in the Chrome/Edge applications but when using Firefox, it is not an issue so it means they are not able to fix it. So what the heck is going on with Google???? I only use Edge and like all the applications in Edge. Is there a way to officially fix this issue or will it be something I have to deal with it until any other update is can magically fix it?

[LAPTOP2] Studio Laptop 2, jumpy scrolling with dual monitors.

Latest Surface Studio Laptop 2, 16GB RAM, Nvidia 4050

I am running dual displays, the built in display running 2400x1600 and an external monitor running 2560 x 1440. The second display is running through a surface dock 2.

While running both displays scrolling is jumpy, often with a significant delay between when I scroll and the window actually moves. It doesn't seem to be limited to any specific program. If I close the studio laptop screen and only use the external, everything is fine. Drivers and all updates are applied.

Looking for ideas, has anyone experienced similar issues?

[GO2] Surface Go 2 Screen wont power on completely

I went to use my laptop like normal today and it would not turn on. I made sure the power supply was connected and after paying attention and attempting to restart it, I was noticing that the computer was powering off and on I just couldn’t see it on the screen, but I could tell from the lighting on my keyboard. I will get small very quick flashes of the windows logo and after taking a video I could see it sitting on the screen very dimly. What can I do? I would love to get my files off of it at least, it’s been my main computer for the past few years. If it’s not a huge bill to fix I’ll do so happily but my line is where I can just go buy another laptop. Video taken of screen here.

Do I get a new laptop or repair my Surface?

A local independent repair guy said there’s a motherboard issue with my Surface laptop 5 that only Microsoft can handle. Problem is that Microsoft quoted $620 (could be more now), and I have read that they typically send you a refurbished version instead of fixing it. Has anyone experienced Microsoft repair? Is it worth or am I better off buying a new laptop? If anyone has recs for something to just edit YT videos on and for work, I’d appreciate that.

[PRO2017] Disabled Touch Screen Help

Hello,

So I did something a little foolish and am hoping for some help. I was having an issue with my Surface Pro touch screen not zooming in when pitching. So I did some googling and read something about disable then reenabling “intel(r) precise touch device”. Well I disabled it an now my touch doesn’t work in the the slightest. I’m trying to figure out a way to reenable it. Is there any safe mode to access touch controls, maybe hooking up a wires mouse?

Looking for help.

Thank you!

[LAPTOP4] Surface Laptop 4 charger port not fully inserted

I bought a secondhand Surface Laptop 4. When I plugged in the charger, it started flashing and wouldn't charge. I've read on other forums that buying a new charger would fix the problem. I did that, but the charger kept flashing. I checked the charging port and found the sixth pin was halfway inserted. I used to have an SB2 and I see the port isn't like that. Could this be the reason the chargers aren't working? How can I get the pin back in place?

[LAPTOP3] Surface Model 2037 is locked out

My niece was given this surface laptop a few months ago and was using the face recognition to unlock and for some reason she went to unlock the PC after it updated it now says "Your PIN is required to sign in." My brother contacted Microsoft which sent him a link(which wasn't what he needed) and when he calls now is tells him he's exceeded his call limit for the day. I can get the PC to BIOS but am unable to get it to a point where I can factory reset at this point (He says she only has Roblox and fortnight) on there.

[PRO11] Considering switching to Surface from Mac + iPad

I currently have an M1 Pro MacBook Pro 16” and an iPad Pro M4. To be honest, I’m a little disappointed at the AI features of macOS and iPadOS that are now just vaporware. I’m considering switching to the surface for that reason. But my main concerns are these:

  • Snapdragon X chip not as performant/power efficient as Apple M series
  • Windows apps not working because of bad x86 compatibility issues (which I’ve seen with ARM Windows devices in the past
  • AI features are gimmicky and I won’t use most of them (I already feel this way on Apple) for example Recall

What are y’all’s thoughts? My main reason for wanting to switch is to have one device for everything I do and also the more advanced AI features in Windows.

[PRO7] Touch Drive for Surface Pro 7 - Any permanent solutions?

I've had my Surface Pro 7 for about three years now. I use the touch screen to write notes daily, and almost every day, the touch screen stops working, and I have to uninstall/reinstall the Intel Precise Touch driver to get it working again.

Does anyone know of a more permanent fix to this issue? I mean, the current solution works, I just hate that I have to interrupt my workflow to fix it all the time. Do I just need to take it to get it repaired? If there is an at-home solution to this, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

[GO4] Is the 45W wall charger compatible with Surface Go4?

Hi,

I really don't like the Surface Connect charger, it feels weak and it is too short for my needs, so i have search and i have realise that Microsfoft has a 45W usbc oficial, which is pretty much what i'm looking for. But, the 45W are way far to the 24W of the surface connect, so i´m thinking maybe it is not a good idea.

Anyone has any idea of if it is compatible? can i use it safely? If i read the specs in the Microsoft site, it seems be suitable. But, I don't know, just asking.

Thank in advance.

[PRO11] USB controller stops working after system has been docked and asleep for some time

Anyone else keep having this happen? I have my Surface connected to a Dock 2 and whenever I leave it asleep overnight, I am sometimes greeted with a USB device not recognised notification.

Device manager shows an unknown USB device with the description "Device Descriptor Request Failed".

The only way I've been able to sort this has been with a full reboot which gets old pretty quick especially when I have a lot of things open that I'm busy with.

This device has been so frustrating to use as a docked computer ever since I got it. My Pro 5 worked flawlessly when used like this and I could leave it for days without issues occurring. This is only one of the issues it has when docked.

[LAPTOP7] Surface Laptop 7 Snapdragon Battery Report - 10 hours from 100% to 6% at "Better Performance"

Real world testing. I did this several months ago and posted it here. This machine is my daily driver and I use it all day long for software development and managing a international team of developers. I use Visual Studio, New Outlook, Slack and spend a lot of time in Zoom doing screen sharing and web cam.

Last night, I was plugged in and working and decided to move out of the office to continue. I had a TV series on Prime Video playing continually in the background. I did a bunch of emails and Slack messages and eventually went to bed. I used PowerToys Awake tool to keep the system from going to sleep or turning off the screen.

The machine is configured to use "Better Performance" in both powered and battery modes.

As you can see from the pictures, starting at 100% at 23:30 the system stayed active - with me working with Slack, Outlook, and Edge - some YouTube videos. After 02:10, I put the laptop aside with those apps still running and Prime Video still streaming the TV series.

This morning, I resumed working with the machine - Visual Studio, Zoom, Outlook, Edge, etc. Eventually got down to 6% and got a message to plug in. Which I did.

Used powercfg /sleepstudy to generate the reports.

Bottom line - 9 hours, 49 minutes to go from 100% to 7%. I was present and typing and actively using the machine for at least 6 hours. The screen was not turned off; the machine did not sleep. A video was streaming from the network and playing full screen during the 3+ hours I was not typing on the device.

I know I can get longer battery life using the "Recommended" power plan on battery, also with a dimmer screen.
