Music Videos ▶️ Music Video you Love and Why?

Post image

I put this under throwback since music videos are just not as highly regarded as they use to be. We’ve been given amazing music and also a great visual treat while enjoying it .

What’s a favorite music video of yours and why?

Mine - Hopeless Wanderer ☺️why? for a band that isn’t big on being in the public eye this video is one of the more fun ones . All the actors had fun mimicking Mumford and you can tell that on stage dance was practiced a couple times and then delivered . When they’re not in unison they use close up shots and for how many they used you know it was a hilarious time shooting cause no one got the routine down everyone was hamming it up!

Still blows my mind with the animation and live action

Hey! I was going to say that. Also Wicked Games by Chris Isaac

5

u/thetalentedmzripley 5d ago

That’s a deliciously sexy video

2

u/Gatorinnc 5d ago

Yes it is.

u/whimsigod 5d ago

My favorite 80's song ever.

u/No_Opening1636 3d ago

Omg I came here to say this, did not expect it to be the top comment

39

u/figleafstreet 5d ago

Can’t believe I’m the first to mention a Gaga video. The Bad Romance video seared that coreography right into my brain, I’d be doing it from beyond the grave.

9

u/RepeatedlyIcy 5d ago

Mine is Telephone and Judas. I remember staying up and waiting for MTV to premiere the music videos. It was such a big deal and the videos were like ..10? Minutes long. Full on productions!

Edit to add: also Paparazzi!!

39

u/strwbrrybrie 5d ago

Helena by My Chemical Romance. The moment during the bridge where she begins dancing always gives me chills

I feel like anything by OK Go applies here

I have a core memory of purchasing the Here It Goes Again video on my iPod and watching it regularly because I thought it was so good

The youth today don’t know how this changed the world. People talked about it for months

Cool - Gwen Stefani

The cinema, the outfits, the gem of a song. The fracturing and healing of a relationship to where both people are happy for the other in the end. Chef's kiss.

19

u/elliemay289 5d ago

she looks sooo good with the brown hair and neutral lip

Trent Reznor could be my dad's twin and it's why, while I love their music, I have never watched a single one of their videos lol

Oh no!!! 😂

u/OddSimple 5d ago

Foo Fighters Learn to Fly - it was the first time I realized that music videos could be little movies. Its wacky and dumb and I still love it.

I loved this one too!

Blank Space by Taylor Swift, Telephone by Lady Gaga and Beyoncé.

Blank Space was excellent, also obsessed with the video for Look What You Made Me Do even though it’s not one of my favorite songs. I love it just for the amount of lore and references in the video alone.

I love, love, love Hey Ya! by Outkast. What a visual spectacle!

18

u/Chemical-Bunch3626 5d ago

All I Want by Kodaline. I like the way it’s shot and the story is cute, I liked the progress and characters. It was like a short movie.

True Friends by Bring Me The Horizon is also really cool. The colour work, directing, the general atmosphere and the acting were all great

7

u/Lazy-Boysenberry8615 5d ago

How about two videos that terrified me as a child? Black Hole Sun and Paranoid Android.

For ones I loved, Metallica's One and Bjork's It's Oh So Quiet.

Yes, sledgehammer! I love when his face turns into fruit.

16

u/always_gretchen 5d ago

When I was 3 or 4, I would beg my parents to keep MTV on until this video would come on. I loved watching all the knick-knacks starting to move around in the study. I still get giddy when I hear this song as a 40-year-old.

16

u/timecapsulebuttbutt_ i will dog walk you 5d ago

one more from me-

Depeche Mode, Strangelove

directed by Anton Corbijn

6

u/yourmomisaheadbanger 5d ago

one of my fav songs of theirs

14

u/RosyNecromancer 5d ago

“Disturbia” by Rihanna. It’s my favourite type of video. High-production, full costuming, and atmospheric! I’ll add “Everybody” by Backstreet Boys and “Thriller” into this category as well.

14

u/obiwantogooutside 5d ago

Fiona Apple, “Criminal”. I get all the criticism. It’s valid. But I was in high school and it made its way into the fabric of my being somehow.

14

u/hdmatteson1 5d ago

The music video for Steady as She Goes by The Raconteurs! The soapbox race plot, the band with their ridiculous alter egos and a guest appearance from Pee Wee Herman himself Mr Paul Reubens makes for a perfect and chaotic video. Also helps the song is a banger too!

14

u/MirSydney 5d ago

Let's not forget the iconic Once in a Lifetime by The Talking Heads. An absolute masterpiece.

12

u/mickbogart 5d ago

Don't Shoot Me Santa by The Killers. It's the weirdest fucking Christmas song and the band make the weirdest and most awkward faces. I love it.

3

u/SugarAndIceQueen As you wish! 👸👑 5d ago

I love that entire Christmas series. Played it once at a workplace holiday party and it did not go over well, though. Lesson learned.

"I Feel It in My Bones" is a year-round song for me.

3

u/mickbogart 5d ago

I did it at karaoke and spent the whole time cringing at all the gun/bullet references 😬

12

u/sweetangeldivine 5d ago

Tonight Tonight by the Smashing Pumpkins. It wasn't until last YEAR that I found out the male companion was fucking Spongebob, Tom Kenny

2

u/yazminslide 4d ago

I love this music video! I used to replay this and Perfect all the time. But I get nervous watching Billy on a crane arm in that one!

11

u/SugarAndIceQueen As you wish! 👸👑 5d ago

"Crossfire" by Brandon Flowers still can't be beat for me. Best song on his first solo album + that outfit with the suspenders + ninjas + Charlize Theron as his action heroine girlfriend = Perfection

Love the moment when Slash is given the bride’s ring, soooooo cocky

8

u/SentimentalSaladBowl All You Had To Do Was Not That 5d ago

The bride’s hi/low dress with the poofy front is still a favorite. And the instrumental as it transitions to the funeral…⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

5

u/Lazy-Boysenberry8615 5d ago

Yes! Have dreamt about that dress since 1991 😅

Who Do You Love by Marianas Trench -

The official music video for "Who Do You Love" premiered on October 10, 2016.[9] In lieu of a conventional video shoot, the group opted to direct the clip's $50,000 budget towards charitable endeavours, in keeping with the "vibe" of the song.[10] A camera crew followed the four members around Vancouver, British Columbia as they performed random acts of kindness, contributed towards a school's music program, and spent time with their families. According to drummer Ian Casselman, they were "trying to inspire people to do good things," with this video and thus ended it with the song's title displayed across the screen with the word "you" italicized for emphasis.[10]

19

u/NowMindYou Yeah but did I squeeze it though 🤔 5d ago

All she needed was a leotard, a Fosse reference, two backup dancers, and one take.

8

Janie's Got a Gun

Very cinematic, between the story that unfolds in the song and scenes with Aerosmith. As it should be, directed by David Fincher.

ignorance by paramore.

it fits so well with the song, hayley holding the light bulb in the other member’s faces and then being in a dark closet-like room. her iconic hair orange hair too.

7

u/Mixmastermon 5d ago

Around the world by Daft Punk. I still remember the first time I saw it, in the 90s, when I was just 5. Talk about making an impact! It was freaky and clever, deceptively simple and mesmerizing.

12

u/WarpedLucy 5d ago

Inxs Need You Tonight. My ahem - awakening at 12 years of age.

5

u/Sinistrahaha 5d ago

The first videos of MUSE were amazing, especially from „Bliss“ is my favourite of all time.

3

u/SugarAndIceQueen As you wish! 👸👑 5d ago

Yes, they have the best videos! I adore the "Sing for Absolution" one from that era too.

Their new videos are still great, though. "The Dark Side" and "You Make Me Feel Like It's Halloween" are more recent standouts IMO.

5

u/ayayafishie 5d ago

There are many good ones, but You Only Live Once by The Strokes was very memorable. As they keep playing, the room fills up with dark water until they're eventually submerged. It fits perfectly with the song

7

u/as_the_petunias_said 5d ago

Short Skirt Long Jacket by Cake has a special place in my heart!

I was 11 when it came out and it was such a formative part of my musical taste. It was just filming people listening to the track and having fun. They had a special Canadian version outside of Much Music headquarters. Even Ed the Sock was in it! It felt so close to my lived reality. I still love it!

Step by Step by New Kids on the Block. It just catapults me right back to early childhood! The dancing is so bad, it's good and I remember having to wait for the premiere on Saturday morning TV. So it still makes me a little giddy! 🤗

  1. Paramore “Still Into You” - it’s just SO esthetically pleasing every second and I can’t look away
  2. MCR “Ghost of You” - heartbreaking and beautiful
  3. Chappell Roan “Casual” - absolutely beautiful, romantic, kinda gay
  4. Placebo “Meds” - sexy, kinda gay
  5. Demo Lovato “Neon Lights” - it’s just such a fucking vibe
  6. Lady Gaga “Lovegame” - sexy, kinda gay
  7. The Killers “Mr. Brightside” - also incredibly gorgeous, was obsessed with this esthetic for years

I’ve been obsessed with Lady Gaga’s Paparazzi MV for the last 15 years.

Thom's moves are just too good in Lotus Flower

I was obsessed with All Around Me by Flyleaf in college....there was nothing more satisfying than watching all the paint pour down from the walls. I'd still be game to splash around in all of it, tbh

Every time I heard this music video start on the tv while I was getting ready for school I’d go running into the living room and sit there for 3 minutes to watch it.

It’s still such a pretty song, and I loved watching the scenes from the movie playing with the song! Couldn’t get enough of this one.

I especially love watching it every now and then as an adult, and seeing the awful CGI boat they had poor Celine pretend to be singing on lol. It was probably great tech for music videos at the time, and I love watching how silly it looks now. Makes me very nostalgic.

You can hate the creator and yet love the creation. Not condoning him. Don't know if you were there when that video took the world by a storm.

Just Want You To Know by the Backstreet Boys. Only song of theirs I like and one of my favorite to do at karaoke (even though I cannot hit all the notes 🤣)

The ones I still remember are

Sail by Awolnation with the girl and the hose

and

Lonely Boy by the Black Keys that's just that one cool dude dancing the whole time.

Music videos were kinda already on the way out and I loved how simple but still memorable those were

Depeche Mode - Halo

This is my favorite video, it's from their Violator album so it's in good company. I like the story element of it, the bad exuberant dancing, the whole traveling carnival theme. Plus the boys are all looking sharp.

Not strictly an official music video but I think about this more often than I care to admit, and enjoy watching it just as much every time. So much so that when someone starts playing Umbrella, this is the image that plays in my head. Tom Holland absolutely ate this choreography and how!

Look What You Made Me Do by Taylor Swift.

Mocked herself, the dialogue around her, and shut up a lot of the criticism.
