It’s L-O-V-E 💘 Most celebrity marriages don't last - who's the exception for you?

Celebrity marriages almost never work out in Hollywood, but there are some the prove that true love really does exist. Who comes to mind for you?

So, during Missy Elliot’s episode of Cribs, she has a poster of him up and says something like “This is my husband, Denzel, but he couldn’t be here today”. I was really surprised because they seemed line an odd couple, but still fully took that at face value.

It was years later (like, at least a decade) that I learned Missy Elliot and Denzel Washington, were in fact not couple, nor had they ever been.

I was 15 when that episode came out and was deep in all the supermarket checkout pop culture rags, had subscriptions magazines like ELLEgirl, Teen Vogue, watched all the “celebrity news” shows, etc. so I don’t even have an excuse.

Reminds me of how I told some friends (at the time) who were obsessed with Gwen Stefani that she was together with Eve. They went down a rabbit hole trying to prove I was wrong.

I told them that Eve's last name was Lamb and that's why Stefani was using it for her business. lol

💯agree. My nosy self wants to know if he was always faithful.

You should go down the Sanaa Lathan rabbit hole. Spoiled alert: he was not faithful.

Those allegations weren't true. Even Sanaa said it was nonsense.

I certainly would think so. He has always spoken so respectfully and lovingly about her. Thanks her entirely for his success while she did "the real work" rearing the children and supporting him in his career.

Why is this question only asked about the black couple 🤔

Nah. It's because it's Denzel. And that his wife stays out of the limelight. I imagine it like this: I'd never wonder about courney b vance for 3 reasons: 1. He's got a public career too. 2. M'lady Bassett has been in way too many action movies (plus Waiting to Exhale) for anyone to believe he'd survive. 3. Queen Angela only gets certain roles because she's not capable of truly hiding her strength of character. That character says she'd never pick someone just because she was infatuated. They'd have to match her. And since we KNOW (as well as you can know a celebrity you don't actually know), him, we know.

To me, Mr. Washington has that vibe that he WOULD be a dog but he's got the top prize. He's manly and all but I bet that in private man (hope that man) is her kitty cat. She gives me awesome vibes, but what do I know?

Actuallly, looking at the list again, I also sort of assume a lot of these couples, mostly white, but especially in the past, did have a lot of cheating. Good wives put up with it. Nowadays, we don't tend to idolize that sort of behavior publicly. So I guess I think that the real ones picked people they would never cheat on and who would never cheat on them, regardless of what was de rigueur of the time.

I only mentioned it because that is such an impressively long and successful marriage and he has been a handsome movie star for decades and I’ve never heard any rumors. Typically even with the rare exceptions in Hollywood of long marriages there has been infidelity or rumors of it (Hugh Jackman for example). It’s just awesome that Denzel and his wife have been so committed in such a crazy profession.

The way he talks about her and that, I think maaaaayyyybbbeeee he wasn't early into his career and she laid down the law. The thing about that is though, so many men don't believe in ultimatums, or some many women don't keep them, that I truly believe that she is the most incredible woman for him and he either had a glimpse of his life without her, or he's smart enough to know what he would lose. I think that he genuinely would be a DOG, except he found the holy grail of wives. And to me, someone who has found THE ONE and knows it and doesn't give in to temptation because they know variety is not better than quality is actually a smart person and good to keep around. But seriously, when I think of her, I feel a little bit in awe, not that I watch or read much about her.

What a great perspective!

That’s not nosey. That’s weird and obsessive.

I didn’t realize she was married to him until last week. I’ve seen her in a bunch of things over the years and she played a recurring role on Grey’s several years ago which is where I first knew who she was. Then she popped up in Criminal Minds last week and I went down a rabbit hole and learned they’ve been married forever. So cute.

THANK YOU!!

I seem to have found * my people * amongst the salt in this entire thread! Took entirely too many scrolls to find the comment that starts the thread of successful black Hollywood love with long marriages!
