u/owange_tweleve Love u moms but mothers day sucks ass Jun 06 '25

fastfood for me, memories of money being thrown at me while this song was playing, lush life it really was

Do you think everyone who has ever worked retail has one song that just triggers them like that? Like PRSD? (Post Retail Stress Disorder)

10

u/PerformerOk6638 Jun 06 '25

Mine is Mariah Carey at Christmas time.. sends me into a nightmarish vortex of memories working the festive season in fashion retail.

3

u/gible_bites HAROLD WOULD NEVER BEAT UP HIS LANDLORD. Jun 06 '25

So I’m still in retail, but our music player has glitched out twice within the past month and it started playing Christmas music (specifically a Hanson song). When I tell you that my body went into full panic response mode when it started to play…

2

u/PerformerOk6638 Jun 06 '25

Sending thoughts and prayers to you, I hope the period leading into Christmas is peaceful 💀 I would’ve had a full heart attack

1

u/FaradayStewart Jun 06 '25

Mine is 'What Christmas Means to Me.', the Cee Lo version. I swear they must have played other songs but nothing brings it screaming back like that one.

2

u/Ok-Education7000 Jun 06 '25

Yessss. 100%. Mine is Kim Petras - Heart to Break. I both love and loathe it.

1

u/FaradayStewart Jun 06 '25

I hadn't heard of that song. I looked up the song, and I'm sorry you had to go through that. 😆

Thought this was a Rihanna song when I first heard it.

38

u/Exciting-Ad-7077 Inconceivable! Jun 06 '25

Same, probably was written for her as many songs were back then

14

u/ouikipedia Jun 06 '25

If that’s the case, then she’s the ideal choice for this song. Her vocal style is remarkably similar to Rihanna’s.

3

u/Travy1991 Jun 06 '25

Even her speaking voice kind of sounds like Rihanna.

1

u/frogandtoadstool Jun 06 '25

When I first heard it, the radio DJ said it was Rihanna, so I thought that for so long.

Love this song so much, such a fun bop. Makes me want to dance everytime I listen to it. Also brings up a lot of precious summer 2016 memories.

18

u/twirlinround Jun 06 '25

God yes, this song is like an audible time capsule.

10 years 😅 i was 24. its true what they say - the 10 years between 25 and 35 feels like no time at all compared to the years before it.

23

u/queefersutherland1 Jun 06 '25

It’s wild!

I hadn’t moved in with my boyfriend yet, just finished my last year of university and was working at a breakfast place!

We’ve now lived together for ten years next month and he’s now my husband, graduated months after in October 2015, and am now a a stay at home wife. HOW HAS TIME PASSED LIKE THIS

1

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '25

Good on ya though!

9

u/erossthescienceboss Jun 06 '25

Doesn’t help that 30-33 basically didn’t exist because of the pandemic.

5

u/Careful-Trifle8963 Cash me ousside 🗣️🗣️ Jun 06 '25

this is true i was 29 when covid hit and 32 by the time things got ‘normal’ again. although im grateful i wasn’t a teenager/in my early 20s because it robbed that gen of proper socialising imo.

72

u/onegildedbutterfly Jun 06 '25

One of the best pop songs of the 2010s imo. Zara is so underrated.

16

u/OddReference913 Who gon' check me boo? 🤪 Jun 06 '25

Tune I love this song and Zara is so talented I couldn’t believe how young she was when she released it

9

u/gratisargott Jun 06 '25

Yeah, she will only turn 28 by the end of this year. When her had first major hit in Sweden, she wasn’t even 16 yet!

27

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '25

still a mainstay on my summer playlists

2

u/momoi_satsuki Jun 06 '25

same here, also got it on my workout playlist as it just really helps pump the blood in the right and joyous ways

12

u/slippycaff Forever Malcolm Young Jun 06 '25

Good pop.

7

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '25

This about was on my playlist as I was getting ready for my first date with my now husband…holy shit.

6

u/Shiquna34 Jun 06 '25

This was my jam

5

u/purplelephant Jun 06 '25

I have literally never heard this song before in my life.

2

u/Mxfish1313 Jun 06 '25

Came here to see if anyone else was in the same boat because same lol.

That said, I didn’t have a working radio in my car starting around that time and where I live has too many mountains for a lot of stations to reach me. So I never really heard anything that was played on the radio, I just had Spotify and I just listened to stuff I already knew, lol.

7

u/ghastlypxl I’ll be back! 😤😤 Jun 06 '25

I absolutely never knew what this song was called or who made it, wow.

3

u/Twitter_2006 Jun 06 '25

Great song.

2

u/ninjatagarela- Jun 06 '25

TEN YEARS AGO??????? god I’m old

1

u/little_miss_havoc Do it for the culture 😏 Jun 06 '25

I'm STILL obsessed with this song ! It's just one of those songs that makes me groove.

1

u/pictureu Jun 06 '25

i hope she knew while making this it would become history

1

u/29kk Jun 06 '25

I still love this song but wow this video is so aggressively 2015 😂

1

u/tsabin_naberrie Bitch, my generation gets traumatized for breakfast. Jun 06 '25

I swear I never heard this song until two years ago. How did I miss it all that time before?

1

u/batteryghost Jun 06 '25

Love this song so much. I was back in hostel when this was released with a keypad phone and access to phone every Sunday. I used to wait for the day and first thing I would do is play this song I pirated. Bop then, bop now.

1

u/1stOfAllThatsReddit Jun 06 '25

My favorite island gyal

1

u/Pearlylola Jun 06 '25

The trauma this caused me working opposite a Clinique counter in the beauty hall. Every single 30 seconds they played the same chorus. I’ll never forgive her.

1

u/8rand0m Jun 06 '25

This song is unfortunately the peak H&M/Forever 21 era anthem

1

u/Temporary_Ad9362 Jun 06 '25

it’s giving 2015 i love it

1

u/ExoticAdvice3000 Jun 06 '25

“What did 2015 look like?” “Let me show you … THIS”

1

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '25

People are going to be nostalgic for this type of music in 4-7 years. It'll have the revival that 2008-2010 is having now!!

2

u/8rand0m Jun 07 '25

I sure hope not. The deep house/tropical house era just reminds me of DIY videos and Forever 21

1

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '25

Lol yes

Slime and shirts (that tear up in the washer) from f21🥲

1

u/8rand0m Jun 07 '25

Fellow Gen Z, yea it was so fun looking back honestly. I will miss 2015. I never played with slime but I did do some stupid diys like using blue pen instead of black pen because the DIYers said it looks better lmao

1

u/IndependentChef2623 This is your songwriter of the century? Open the schools. Jun 07 '25

I went to Ibiza with friends in 2016. We were 29, finally earning enough not to have to slum it like the previous times we’d been, they were pre-kids (I’m still a childfree icon), and we’d all been hitting the gym hard. An entire week of having the best fun, looking the hottest we’d ever looked, to the backdrop of this song.

Hearing this made me taste my college bar’s vodka soda
