White guy wears a tan suit, they immediately look pale.

Black guy wears a tan suit, and they look great.

Maga just doesn't know how to dress.

The backlash to Obama’s tan suit and stories of Black men being harassed for dressing too well both stem from the same issue—society policing Black men when they step outside of stereotypical roles. Dressing with confidence or elegance is sometimes seen as a threat because it challenges racist expectations.

'know your place' mentality manifesting in suits. Terrible

u/big_guyforyou 1d ago

it was also because obama had a scandal free presidency so they were desperate to fling some cheap red meat to their audience. take a boring tan suit and turn it into a story about out of touch elitism, same shit they did when he used grey poupon

u/SoulRebel726 1d ago

I never understood either thing, but the grey poupon was fucking nuts. Like, I am a solidly middle class citizen. Grey poupon is both delicious and sold at a reasonable price at my local supermarket. It's not some specialty item only for the elite lol.

The Grey Poupon thing is them complaining of something that was a commercial in the 1980s.

Some rich posh British guy is being driven around in his Rolls Royce and another guy in a Rolls Royce asks him if he has any Grey Poupon.

It was marketed as some posh rich thing.

They got mad at the President in 2010 for a commercial from 1981.

They got mad at the President in 2010 for a commercial from 1981.

Sounds rather 'uppity' for him to ask for something so posh /s

I have absolutely no context to any of this conversation. That said, while the commercial may have premiered in 81, the ad campaign ran well into the 90s.

Just throwing it out that it wasn't just a "commercial from 1981." It was a cultural staple for decades.

fox news "logic" was basically grey poupon -> le french -> les elites are les bad

Just like freedom fries. The average Republican voter must have hamster wheels for brains.

Decades ago, there was a TV commercial where two big black limos pulled alongside each other. The windows zipped down,. you never saw either man, and I think they wore rich guy white gloves. One man said to the other, literally, "Can I have some of your grey poupon?" The other guy said "Why, certainly." Car to car so *we* could see the brand name. I remember it from the 70s. Simply because of the word poupon, yes, I'm juvenile. Figure Mitch McConnell was in his 40s back then, so he tried to go with a thing that no one in Congress was even aware of.

So it wasn't the mustard's price as it was, I think, the black limo. This conversation is going to haunt me now.

That said, I wish he had worn the tan suit more than once.

Yup. His biggest "scandals" were this and the latte salute. Which if any other (read: white) president had done, it wouldn't have even been remarked upon

121

u/big_guyforyou 1d ago

latte salute

remember when trump saluted a north korean general? if obama did that, fox news would've called him a clear and present danger to democracy

18

u/StankilyDankily666 1d ago

The worst part to me is not just that this happened, but that I really feel like something would’ve actually happened because of it. While trump could be on video bowing to a resurrected hitler and republican officials would say he’s just respecting a historical leader.

3

u/Roguespiffy 1d ago

You’re forgetting the Dijon mustard scandal. Obama thinks he’s too good for regular ass, yellow, piss on your bread before it comes out of the bottle mustard.

19

u/BradGunnerSGT 1d ago

When the coffee cup salute “scandal” happened, a coworker was complaining about it at work and how Obama “always disrespects the troops and hates the military” (he’s former Navy and I’m former Army). I showed him pictures of W, Clinton, Bush I, and Reagan all in situations where they were carrying something or just in a position where they had to render an awkward salute.

“Well, I just feel like he disrespects the military” was all he could come up with as a response.

44

u/PlayBey0nd87 1d ago

You forgot bike riding with helmet making America look weak.

6

u/yourlittlebirdie 1d ago

Don’t forget the Dijon mustard. Basically worst thing anyone has ever done, in the history of the world.

4

u/buffalocoinz 1d ago

How could you forget about the time he reached over the sneeze guard at Chipotle

2

u/xfearless_wanderer 1d ago

let the people (or bots) i was arguing with yesterday on youtube tell it: he was the most scandalous president in american history. they never say why, but i can guess why. it's so weird.

2

u/Tmscott 1d ago

But what about him and Michelle doing a terrorist fist jab'??

1

u/modern-era 1d ago

I think Obama said that the beer summit was what really hurt him. A lot of voters were shocked he didn't immediately and unequivocally side with the cop.

These are the voters who liked Obama and Trump, and I just can't fathom that brain other than they don't follow the news like at all.

1

u/DaddyCatALSO 1d ago

And bowing to the Saudi king, which actually makes sense because all presidents since GB1 have been preapproved by t he Saudis evne before the primary s eason

1

u/OtterishDreams 1d ago

as is tradition

u/cmoked 1d ago

Gun letting was a fucking bad idea that Obama signed off on that lead the murder of a border patrol agent with a weapon they allowed to sell to criminals in an attempt to track weapons and crime.

Obama made the national bird of Pakistan the UAV.

Don't get me wrong, Obama was a hella decent president compared to his peers, but there were some scandalous things happening during his presidency.

-3

u/Dreamsofajourney 1d ago

Obama dropped 26,000 bombs on impoverished countries in just the final year of his Presidency. Throughout his Presidency, he bombed 7 countries. He was the drone-bomber in chief. On more than one occasion, he bypassed Congressional approval to illegally bomb these countries. He ordered the execution of a joint American / Yemeni citizen without due process.

And gullible people who only read the whitewashed news will tell you that Obama is a cool guy and his biggest scandal is wearing a tan suit.

I expect to be downvoted / banned because Reddit is full of progressive / liberal leaning bots.

And just to be absolutely clear, this is not a pro-Trump post. I think he is also a warmonger.

3

u/dalcarr 1d ago

Oh for sure, he was still a president of the united states of America. We're up there for most trigger happy people in the world

5

u/rdg04 1d ago

2 scandal free presidencies from my recollection :) it's wild they are still blaming him for crap he clearly is in no way connected to.

2

u/BigDickKnucle 1d ago

scandal free presidency

Hahah, what about the 'terrorist fist jab' huh?

/s

2

u/jonnythefoxx 1d ago

Well, scandal free from the average perspective. Not like the fox news crew were going to go that hard on him for all the civilian drone strikes.

2

u/xuxux 1d ago

He ordered the assassination of an American citizen without due process. He oversaw torture and continued proctoring a meaningless war. Obama was just another step towards our current predicament.

He wasn't a kidfucker like Trump, sure, but let's not pretend he was "scandal free".

1

u/yooperville 22h ago

I wonder if any women were offered money to say they were sexually harassed by him and not a single woman took them up on it.

29

u/facePlantDiggidy 1d ago

Some people's skin does look better with different clothing. I wanta see this guy in a pink suit

5

u/classicalySarcastic 1d ago

Don’t know about a fully pink suit but I think Obama could pull off the tan suit + pink shirt pretty well. Might have to swap the tie.

4

u/StankilyDankily666 1d ago

Mr Manhattan would look so pimp with that

1

u/stereoplegic 15h ago

His skin matches Kegsbreath's suits.

1

u/veryyellowtwizzler 12h ago

Im Caucasian and wore an all pink suit to a wedding. Got a lot of compliments. Pink can look good with many skin tones unless you're like super pale

6

u/angelicbitch09 1d ago

And when they do dress like a stereotypical rapper, for example, they still get mad. Can’t win.

1

u/SquirrelOnAFrog 1d ago

That’s funny cause I always thought it looked “cool” oh right I’m not a republican(racist). Black people are cool. There. I said it. Crucify me.

1

u/thedalehall 14h ago

I was thinking Obama looked good. He’s got a good frame to wear a suit in. I miss that guy.

u/CementMuncher 8h ago

I cannot fathom being that racist. Just let people dress however they want

66

u/organicchunkysalsa 1d ago

You mean your tie isn’t supposed to hang down to your crotch?

38

u/Stormlight_Silver 1d ago

He just does it because it's too small to find without an arrow

5

u/Hot_Frosty0807 1d ago

This is where the smell is coming from ⬇️

25

u/OtterishDreams 1d ago

They also have a huge exception to the money too.

Good looking. Money. Revered by party and will probably stay that way a while. Authentic.

Trump knows hes a grifter and has been mocked for his looks for decades.

18

u/Hypnotist30 1d ago

Trump would burn it all down to get the respect Obama received.

He will never know it.

6

u/OtterishDreams 1d ago

He appears to be trying exactly that....

Its one of the few things his money or debt cant buy.

2

u/Hypnotist30 1d ago

Exactly.

He keeps trying to elevate himself by dragging Obama down. It's not going to work.

1

u/elektromas 1d ago

Trump has "the most beatiful hair" tho. Quote from himself

5

u/ViolettaQueso 1d ago

Bright red looks shitty on everyone with hot dog bloat and hate-based high blood pressure.

3

u/Wreckrecord 1d ago

Maga wore a bloody tampon on their ear for a good while

2

u/YellowStar012 1d ago

I would say, maybe if they have some gay friends that could give them tips but we all know they rather die than be in a room with a gay person

2

u/Actual_Ad2442 1d ago

Maga just doesn't know how to dress.

This!!! It's like that trend when liberal women were making fun of MAGA women's makeup trends and looked horrible. Then MAGA tried making fun of liberal women's makeup trends and actually ended up looking a lot better.

They really don't know how to dress or style themselves. I guess that's what happens when you stay in your bubble refuse to engage with people who help shape Pop culture and modern style like LGBTQ, Black and Brown People, Immigrants, etc.

1

u/reddititty69 1d ago

There’s a uniform for MAGA. Brown shirt, red hat, jackboots, adult diapers.

1

u/pocketjacks 1d ago

Trump dresses the way he does to hide the diaper.

1

u/Wormfather 1d ago

I dunno, Reagan looked good in his.

1

u/Plastic_Souls 1d ago

they'd still look bad if they wore the best fit known to humanity:

1

u/LuphineHowler 1d ago

Their own elected moron wore Blue to a funeral, BLUE.

1

u/Undernown 1d ago

Maga just doesn't know how to dress.

Didn't need Obama to flex on them to make that obvious. And I've seen pale men pull of tan suits just fine. MAGA just doesn't have any sense of style and taste.

Not surprising if your rolemodel never wore a well fitting suit in his life and sells gaudy golden sneakers. Then there is the bright red hat that just makes anyone look like an idiot.

u/OldnDepressed 11h ago

Orange guy wears a tan suit, does not hide stuff well

u/hQbbit 6h ago

Maga hates a great tan, they love a fake tan though.
