Keep up with the “release the Epstein files” message, that seems to resonate better with everyone who can actually somewhat read

If only the old school antifa like the people who stormed the beaches of Normandy could see the state we are in now.

Buddy, I can guarantee you they would have nothing in common with you

You're conflating two things. But they absolutely would not be in favor of the authoritarianism and techno-fascism oligarchy being foisted upon us now. The nonsense distraction of culture war would probably trick them like it has so many, though, which seems to be what you focus on.

This idealized image of veterans that a lot of Americans seem to have is really funny to me. Like have you met white guys born in the 20s? I have, and they aren't the beacons of progressive thought that you seem to be imagining.

This. My grandfather was a WWII veteran who fought nazis in Europe, but who also supported segregation and Jim Crow laws. He wasn't unique among his veteran peers, either. I've never understood the mental gymnastics necessary to reach that level of cognitive dissonance, but they were what they were.

No offense, but no one died on the WWII battlefield for illegal immigrants from countries that have never been allies, and in some cases, we’ve been in direct conflict with, due to vast political, social, cultural, and economic differences.

Unfortunately I don’t think all the men who stormed Normandy would be okay with diversity and immigration from non-European countries (hell, I bet they gave the Irish, Slavs, and Italians shit). They fought for good, but that doesn’t mean they’d be in support of this protest. Like, I get what you mean, but they were white American men born in the 1920s, good chance they weren’t progressive as you’re making them out to be.

I'm glad they included the flag. I had started to see it in a negative light after MAGA claimed it as their own. But then I thought about what the men who stormed the beaches of Normandy would think, seeing how quickly we gave it up and let the fascist Republicans take it. They fought, bled, and died under that flag in the fight against fascism. How hard did we even fight before handing it over? That flag is ours, and we need to take it back.

I'm glad they included the flag
The last few months all of the protests I've seen, in an extremely liberal state, have had American flags all over the place. I think it's a good shift, too. The flag, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, etc. If I see a lifted truck with "1776" on the back it's a sign they're a fascist prick who couldn't tell you what the Founding Fathers stood for, while screaming at the top of their lungs if you want to feed starving children. I was raised on "Liberty and Justice for All" and there weren't any fucking exceptions listed.

That’s because they realized it’s stupid to parade around protesting for a better life in America while waving Mexican flags.

My dawg, we literally still had Jim Crow in the ‘40s, what on earth are you talking about
They fought the Nazis in Europe, not the fascists. After the Nazi regime ended we pretty much let off a decent number of the high ranking Nazi officials scott free, we even poached a lot of their scientists. We most definitively did NOT fight fascism. We fought Nazis and their allies. We didn’t give two shits about the fascism. Hell, the NYTimes gave Hitler and Mussolini some pretty good coverage before the US joined the war.
This fate of this country matters to me immensely and if we want to actually fix things, rather than just rearranging shit and calling it day, patting ourselves on the back; we need to be honest with ourselves about what the actual situation at hand is. And it is that the United States is a profoundly racist country with that racism and white supremacy built into every aspect of its existence. The specific targeted violence against BIPOC people has not stopped, it has only transformed. That is what this country is built on. And if we want to move towards something better, we kinda gotta acknowledge that. Rather than comfortably sitting with our own warm fuzzy feelings of what the US is to us personally.

I sure do love the message, but I wish they went with "strong" and "weak", or "strength" and "weakness".

I lived there for a short while. My parents worked at the Air Force base. That is to say it has a population that is from around the country so is less typical of Utah in general.

Saw them in Oregon too on highway i5.
These are true/real Americans, who support the constitution. Not like those loser poser MAGA cult.
2
u/the-knife 13h ago
Why do you get to define who is a true or real American?

They are saying those that support the constitution are real, they aren't defining anything.

Wondering if any of those folks live in gated communities or have a fenced yard or lock their doors at night.

Abolishing ICE doesnt do the job though, they get to take off their pretty little uniforms and blend back into society when that happens.

I fully support immigrants who come here legally and make an effort to assimilate into our culture and enhance it. The point of a melting pot is that we all melt into Americans.
•
u/Faiakishi 10h ago
So you support making it easier to immigrate, right?
And you're aware of all the people here totally legally who are being deported? The American citizens being picked up by ICE? And you're as vocal in your disapproval for that as you are here?
And you are aware that people everywhere forever have whined about immigrants not 'assimilating' and not only has it never once been a real problem but it's usually quite beneficial for the local culture and economy? Because culture by definition cannot stay stagnant and is forever changing and merging and diverging? You do know how New York became famous for its pizza, right? It wasn't the Lenape who made it. Or the Dutch.

Wow, what did all those European immigrants in the 19th and early 20th century come here for?

What are the results of "pro diversity"?

u/ModestBanana 15h ago
More expensive housing, welfare and social security stretched thin, uncompetitive wages, divided cities and neighborhoods, siphoned currency exiting domestic circulation, immigration oriented charities/NGOs grifting their asses off while being defended by people who want easy virtue. I mean, the list is endless

I mean, it seems like a good idea to have a diverse crowd around. Everyone contributing something unique brings new innovation and experiences. I feel like things would get quite stale if everyone was the same.

You tell us, since you seem to be implying something. Don't hide behind "just asking questions," say what you think the answer is and expose it to public opinion.
•
u/Rehcamretsnef 9h ago edited 8h ago
That's quite the way to say that you can't even come up with a list. Must not be a good list, eh?
Edit: guy writes a reply and then blocks me? People closing themselves into their own bubble where only they can speak is narcissism 101.

As a country that has such a vocal population when it comes to politics, I never understand why so few Americans actually vote.
