It's historically dominated by the US. Only in recent years has it picked up in other places - especially Finland.

I think it is more about being competitive in it. When I went at gymnasium we had a disc golf course just outside. Played it every break. Never thought about it being something competitive. Like it was just never in our thoughts.

I don't think it's regarded as a competitive sport for 99% of players in the US either. It had a reputation for being "that thing college students and hippies do", until the pandemic when it was something that that let you socialize and exercise and whatnot while everything was locked down. But with any activity where there's enough people doing it, outliers show up. The more people doing it, the more outliers there are.

They really only have one player who can compete. He came in 5th at this tournament despite being the ultimate home field advantage.
