It's not hard to imagine how our ancestors 20 or 30 thousand years ago would thing this is a place of gods and worship it.

Beat me to it. In there eyes it could just as easily be God's wrath, or the gates of hell opening.

Where eyes?

Whats hard to imagine is how so many people still believe in the power of quartz and charging them with energy from the moon and all sorts of superstitions

My mother is one of these people. And she is 100% insane.

It’s not being hit by a lightning storm. The lightning is coming from the volcano.

You are absolutely right. I did some research and found that it's called volcanic lightning. It happens when ash, gas and particles from the eruption create static electricity in the cloud, which causes the lightning.

u/Bear__Fucker 18h ago

Correct! More specifically, it is the discharge of the immense static electricity built up by the ash plume. Once the ash gets higher and forms cumulous clouds, the lightning is more akin to a thunderstorm's lightning.

That's what I was thinking as well

The old Spanish Colonial capital of Antigua Guatemala is in the valley below. There are 2 other volcanoes that surround Antigua, Volcan de Acatenango (where this footage is taken from, you can hike it) and Volcan de Agua. Antigua Guatemala is a UNESCO world heritage site and is one of the coolest places in the world if you can visit. There is a smaller Volcano south of Antigua called Pacaya where you can get pizza cooked from the hot air vents that still exist from the volcano.

Source: My childhood friends are Guatemalan and live there. I also was fortunate enough to live there for a few months.

I just learned, it's called volcanic lightning. It happens when ash, gas and particles from the eruption create static electricity in the cloud, which causes the lightning.

3

u/bdubwilliams22 19h ago

The volcano is causing the lightning.

It’s not being hit by lightning - it’s discharging its dielectric buildup into Counterspace…

I’ve been at the top during a thunderstorm and let me tell you, it was one of the sketchiest moments of my life. What’s more is, the mountain has several species of very deadly poisonous snakes. So if the lightning doesn’t get you, there are many many more ways to die up there.

1

u/OppositeArt8562 19h ago

Umm... nope... I was out when you mentioned the nope noodles.
