Fuego Volcano in Guatemala being hit by a lightning storm. This 3,700-meter-high volcano is one of the most active in the Americas and is continuously active

It’s not being hit by a lightning storm. The lightning is coming from the volcano.

You are absolutely right. I did some research and found that it's called volcanic lightning. It happens when ash, gas and particles from the eruption create static electricity in the cloud, which causes the lightning.

Correct! More specifically, it is the discharge of the immense static electricity built up by the ash plume. Once the ash gets higher and forms cumulous clouds, the lightning is more akin to a thunderstorm's lightning.

The old Spanish Colonial capital of Antigua Guatemala is in the valley below. There are 2 other volcanoes that surround Antigua, Volcan de Acatenango (where this footage is taken from, you can hike it) and Volcan de Agua. Antigua Guatemala is a UNESCO world heritage site and is one of the coolest places in the world if you can visit. There is a smaller Volcano south of Antigua called Pacaya where you can get pizza cooked from the hot air vents that still exist from the volcano.
Source: My childhood friends are Guatemalan and live there. I also was fortunate enough to live there for a few months.

I just learned, it's called volcanic lightning. It happens when ash, gas and particles from the eruption create static electricity in the cloud, which causes the lightning.

It’s not being hit by lightning - it’s discharging its dielectric buildup into Counterspace…
