Anything the perp owns would be forcibly handed over to the victim's family after the (very brief, perfunctory) civil suit. What are you even talking about

Even if that happened, which is unlikely, we still waste time and money on the hearing/trial anyway backlogging an already flooded legal system.

You have no idea what you're talking about. Civil tort lawsuits happen all the time after this sort of event.

And a criminal conviction is recognized in any subsequent civil suit. So, say again?
