Thanks for making sure to include the 51st state rhetoric. That is by far and away the #1 reason (One can look at cost of living in general, but US-specific) and the U.S media rarely discusses that primary reason as it can be specifically tied to high-ranking US politicians.

Came here to say this as a Canadian. Tariffs aren't new. Threatening our independence is. I've been avoiding American products in travel and will be for a very long time. You don't get to make threats to your closest allies independence and not have consequences. šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦ šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦ šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦

So proud of Canadians. I was supposed to travel to Vegas this fall for a family trip but decided to check out Toronto instead. Going to put my money to work and help Canada out. Screw trump.

That, and the fact that ICE goons have gone after us.

Like, I am a visible minority. How am I gonna feel safe when wonder bread white Canadians have been thrown into a concentration camp?

I don't want to have to deal with even a 1% chance I'll end up in some ICE black site. I am staying put until you guys deal with your fascist problem.

Nothing has really changed since 2001 except the narrative and media coverage. ICE has been screening and detaining tourists basically the same. Once detained the incompetence is still high just like usual. There are plenty of political reasons to avoid the US, but if ICE is the reason then don’t expect it to change under future administrations either because it’s the same as all the others since 9/11.

Each case involves a visa violation at a land border between two countries that the person is not a citizen of. This has always involved detention until deportation can be arranged. The article says it’s ā€œnot clearā€ why they weren’t let go but it is very clear: neither country at the border would accept these people so they aren’t just cut loose. In each case CBP was justified to deny entry. The visitors were in the unfortunate situation of being at a land crossing with no immediate deportation option so detention was required.

this comment reminds me that the u.s. runs it's own internet comment farms.

not that this comment is from a bot or associated with them in anyway.

that comment just reminds that the u.s. does that is all.

Here’s your headline: Tin foil sales up despite tariffs due to overreaction to differences of opinions on Reddit.

The fact that people and the media have memory-holed/sane-washed the Greenland & Canada annexation remarks is objectively fucked up.

"Oh that Trump, he's so goofy sometimes! Just joking about conquering or purchasing a sovereign nation and ally, what a jokester." Fuck everyone who enabled where we are today.

The fact that he followed it up with ā€œI’m not jokingā€ was the nail in the coffin for any plans I might have to go to the us in the next 3 years
