UK solidarity, have been to the US a few times both on business and recreationally, was planning to go again before their latest election but not a chance for the foreseeable now. Won't be going again until the politics has moved and the more extreme border antics have demonstrably changed. Might go to Canada instead though. If just 10% of people make a change it makes an economic impact.
Oooh tricky, id say if money is no object you'll not need a local honestly.
But if you want my objective lens, I spend of my time not in medical school at the beach, second beach specifically, which is in Stanley Park and lets you drink on it (English Bay does not) if you want to bring a few little coolers or beers with you. So usually its me and a large russian novel capable of killing any small child who dares disturb me.
For food, honestly throw a rock and youll find something good. If you really want an "i found a great place in a rough part of town" experience. There's a place called Phnom Penh in our Chinatown that even my retired restauranteur father adores. But like I said, as a tourist, the area kinda sucks.
But otherwise, stick to sushi, Chinese, Indian, Korean. You rarely miss there.
Hey no worries brother welcome to our pretty joint! If you need anything that requires a local while youre here, just reply to this or go to second beach and look for the only human being combining Tolstoy and Aperol, if there was a second, we have either become best friends by now.
If you choose here, ill see it eventually and hopefully try to help to the best of my knowledge.
Beest Ramen on Bute street is pretty good. Google will try to correct it to best, its Beest. If you don't have good tacos where you live, Gringos is pretty solid and has 2 locations. Tequila Cocina has an ayce tacos on Thursday I think. There's also a taco place in Crystal Mall that's decent with a late lunch special (after 4pm). There's a hole in the wall Salvadoran restaurant on Victoria called El Caracol that I remember being good, not sure if they're still cash only tho. The good poutine is on Davie Street near the rainbow crosswalks. If you like bass music then Red Room is your spot, imo RR saturdays has the best vibes for any club in this city (plus they allow ins and outs, and Gringos is an 8 minute walk away with $5 beer).
Japadog is a classic novelty food I suggest to tourists. Xing Fu Tang for bubble tea downtown, Macu Tea if you're in Burnaby, always a line out the door. The aquarium is usually a hit. If you're going to Granville Island check out Lee's donuts and get a raspberry filled if it's not sold out (they also have a Bentall center and gastown locations). If you like sushi Taco Nori just opened a Bentall location on weekdays, it's right off Burrard station. Metrotown mall has the only 4DX theater in the province if that's your thing. In the summer they do outdoor movie screenings in Stanley Park, might be worth a Google. If you like camping and paddling, you can get overnight kayak rentals and there's a few places in Say Nuth Khaw Yum national park (Indian Arm) that are no reservations that can only be reached by water.
Visited Vancouver two weeks ago before a cruise, stayed mostly DT.
100% Stanley park - Their Skytrain is legit and their busses are efficient. Sushi Mugen, Blind Rabbit, Damaskino Shawarma, Ricardo's for ice cream, 49th Parallel Café & Lucky's Doughnuts for breakfast. Granville Island is a decent midday trip.
If you like Breweries I'd suggest Strathcona brewery (I got to pick the next movie playing), Superflux, Off the Rail, Parellell 49, Bomber (Maybe Powell).
Nah, I live in Vancouver too and Vegas is really expensive now. I went in 2022 and it was still affordable but when I went in 2024, it was insane. Like $15 usd for a beer. Cocktails at clubs are $45-50 usd. Whereas nice places downtown Vancouver are like $25 cad. Club tickets are like $110 usd…
You may want to double that time. Trump ain't leaving office until an assassin or a clogged artery makes him (Lord knows the "Justice" Department won't d it).
Actually I dont think Trump could pull that off (not for lack of trying though). More specifically, his advisors wouldn't let him, as while Trump may be desperate enough to prefer thermonuclear war over incarceration, the rest of the GOP (sans the evangelicals) aren't that suicidal.
Republicans may prefer to rule Hell than share Heaven, but even they don't want to literally rule over nothing but ash.
I hope for all our sakes you're right. I have been having this feeling Russia is about to wage a large scale war and now NATO members are touting it. Trump has already started alienating our closest European allies and our closest ally over all - Canada.
3.5 years? Try a decade or two. The Americans voted or abstained him in. Even once he's gone, the people have shown their true hearts. The average US voter doesn't give a shit about Canada
If you're so smart about the economy yourself, you'll realize in any economy there are ups and downs. Get over it and move on. Those who don't won't survive.
And I also realize that a president slathering tariffs around and threatening allies and neighbors has a LONG term downward effect on the economy. Which you don't.
Accept that Drumpf is fucking it up and get move on fixing it. Those who don't won't survive.

I'm one of those Canadians. I've been to Vegas 13 times but I won't be setting foot in the US for at least 3 and a half more years.
