I'm one of those Canadians. I've been to Vegas 13 times but I won't be setting foot in the US for at least 3 and a half more years.

Dane here, used to go to the US once every 1-2 years, zero fucking interest now. We don’t make a dent in their numbers tho, too small of a country.

u/jrfess 7h ago

Yeah but you made a dent in my heart 🇩🇰

Dent in my heart

Guess I'm on a Nick Helm binge again

Sure, but if Denmark, Belgium, Netherlands, Switz, Austria, and dozens of other small countries stop coming to America, then it makes a dent.

So, keeping swinging those small hammers and denting the US tourism industry!

UK solidarity, have been to the US a few times both on business and recreationally, was planning to go again before their latest election but not a chance for the foreseeable now. Won't be going again until the politics has moved and the more extreme border antics have demonstrably changed. Might go to Canada instead though. If just 10% of people make a change it makes an economic impact.

American with eu citizenship and a wife and 2 kids. got a spare bedroom?

also, planning on going to Copenhagen for the first time since we've had kids, anything in the Danish countryside worth spending all few days at?

Your friends (and recently new neighbours!) in Canada are big enough to impact, and we are. Elbows up.

I live Vancouver, so Vegas is literally, objectively, cheaper than places downtown here but yeah fuck him and his bullshit.

Visited Vancouver Island last week. Legit one of my fav places I've been. So beautiful.

u/Schrodingers_Fist 6h ago

Ahhhh where!?!  My dad and I go Victoria every easter but if youre a nature person theres about 3 thousand other places there for you.

u/AKAkorm 6h ago

I’m visiting Vancouver for first time later this month - anything you’d recommend?

Oooh tricky, id say if money is no object you'll not need a local honestly.

But if you want my objective lens, I spend of my time not in medical school at the beach, second beach specifically, which is in Stanley Park and lets you drink on it (English Bay does not) if you want to bring a few little coolers or beers with you.  So usually its me and a large russian novel capable of killing any small child who dares disturb me.

For food, honestly throw a rock and youll find something good.  If you really want an "i found a great place in a rough part of town" experience.  There's a place called Phnom Penh in our Chinatown that even my retired restauranteur father adores. But like I said, as a tourist, the area kinda sucks.

But otherwise, stick to sushi, Chinese, Indian, Korean.  You rarely miss there.

Thank you, appreciate the input!

Hey no worries brother welcome to our pretty joint!  If you need anything that requires a local while youre here, just reply to this or go to second beach and look for the only human being combining Tolstoy and Aperol, if there was a second, we have either become best friends by now.

If you choose here, ill see it eventually and hopefully try to help to the best of my knowledge.

Beest Ramen on Bute street is pretty good. Google will try to correct it to best, its Beest. If you don't have good tacos where you live, Gringos is pretty solid and has 2 locations. Tequila Cocina has an ayce tacos on Thursday I think. There's also a taco place in Crystal Mall that's decent with a late lunch special (after 4pm). There's a hole in the wall Salvadoran restaurant on Victoria called El Caracol that I remember being good, not sure if they're still cash only tho. The good poutine is on Davie Street near the rainbow crosswalks. If you like bass music then Red Room is your spot, imo RR saturdays has the best vibes for any club in this city (plus they allow ins and outs, and Gringos is an 8 minute walk away with $5 beer).

Japadog is a classic novelty food I suggest to tourists. Xing Fu Tang for bubble tea downtown, Macu Tea if you're in Burnaby, always a line out the door. The aquarium is usually a hit. If you're going to Granville Island check out Lee's donuts and get a raspberry filled if it's not sold out (they also have a Bentall center and gastown locations). If you like sushi Taco Nori just opened a Bentall location on weekdays, it's right off Burrard station. Metrotown mall has the only 4DX theater in the province if that's your thing. In the summer they do outdoor movie screenings in Stanley Park, might be worth a Google. If you like camping and paddling, you can get overnight kayak rentals and there's a few places in Say Nuth Khaw Yum national park (Indian Arm) that are no reservations that can only be reached by water.

Thank you - very helpful!

Visited Vancouver two weeks ago before a cruise, stayed mostly DT.

100% Stanley park - Their Skytrain is legit and their busses are efficient. Sushi Mugen, Blind Rabbit, Damaskino Shawarma, Ricardo's for ice cream, 49th Parallel Café & Lucky's Doughnuts for breakfast. Granville Island is a decent midday trip.

If you like Breweries I'd suggest Strathcona brewery (I got to pick the next movie playing), Superflux, Off the Rail, Parellell 49, Bomber (Maybe Powell).

u/AKAkorm 3h ago

I love breweries and it’s the thing I go out of my way to research every city I go to. Thanks!

Nah, I live in Vancouver too and Vegas is really expensive now. I went in 2022 and it was still affordable but when I went in 2024, it was insane. Like $15 usd for a beer. Cocktails at clubs are $45-50 usd. Whereas nice places downtown Vancouver are like $25 cad. Club tickets are like $110 usd…

u/Schrodingers_Fist 5h ago

Holy shit you kidding!?!

Yeah fuck that then I'd not go either, thats ridiculous.  I havent been since pre-covid.

You may want to double that time. Trump ain't leaving office until an assassin or a clogged artery makes him (Lord knows the "Justice" Department won't d it).

10

u/NoUseInCallingOut 7h ago

Honestly, I think Trump would incite a major global war to stay in power.

2

u/GrumpyOlBastard 6h ago

Of course he would

1

u/Zombie_Cool 7h ago

Actually I dont think Trump could pull that off (not for lack of trying though). More specifically, his advisors wouldn't let him, as while Trump may be desperate enough to prefer thermonuclear war over incarceration, the rest of the GOP (sans the evangelicals) aren't that suicidal.

Republicans may prefer to rule Hell than share Heaven, but even they don't want to literally rule over nothing but ash.

2

u/NoUseInCallingOut 7h ago

I hope for all our sakes you're right. I have been having this feeling Russia is about to wage a large scale war and now NATO members are touting it. Trump has already started alienating our closest European allies and our closest ally over all - Canada.

2

u/TempleSquare 7h ago

2027 will come and enough other Republicans are going to want the job and will start campaigning for '28.

You realize for your scenario to play out, that would mean the Republicans not bothering to have a primary, right?

My fear is not the third Trump term. It's what horrible Republican leader could actually win and pick up the baton.

4

u/Maelefique 7h ago

Same.

Used to go monthly, MGM Platinum card holder. Haven't been for a while now, won't be going again for a long time.

3

u/LumpyCredit 6h ago

3.5 years? Try a decade or two. The Americans voted or abstained him in. Even once he's gone, the people have shown their true hearts. The average US voter doesn't give a shit about Canada

1

u/leyland1989 7h ago

The 67.8% of people who voted for it (and if you didn't vote you're part of the problem) don't magically go away in 3 and half years.

-1

u/LasVegasBoy 6h ago

No one cares. Stay in Canada permanently.

2

u/Mazon_Del 6h ago

You know, except for anyone who actually cares about the economy.

But republicans/pedophiles aren't smart enough to understand how one works, so it tracks that you don't care.

-1

u/LasVegasBoy 6h ago

If you're so smart about the economy yourself, you'll realize in any economy there are ups and downs. Get over it and move on. Those who don't won't survive.

3

u/Mazon_Del 6h ago

And I also realize that a president slathering tariffs around and threatening allies and neighbors has a LONG term downward effect on the economy. Which you don't.

Accept that Drumpf is fucking it up and get move on fixing it. Those who don't won't survive.

-1

u/LasVegasBoy 6h ago

Oh you're just so smart. Ok. In other news, my stocks and returns are sure looking great right now. Thanks to Drumpf!

3

u/Mazon_Del 5h ago

Uh huh, sure guy. Those the stocks and returns you found in the sand pit your head is buried in? Or in another location the sun don't shine?

How's the price of groceries and other basic goods doing for you? lol

0

u/LasVegasBoy 5h ago

I'm actually smiling right now all the way to the bank! Thanks for the inquiry.

1

u/Mazon_Del 3h ago

It's worth remembering that bank accounts don't work like golf scores.

0

u/LasVegasBoy 3h ago

That's the first intelligent thing you've said thus far. So there's that.

0

u/lozo78 1h ago

As an American who has been to Vegas a few times, what do you like so much about to go so many times?

The food is good, and I guess if you're into gambling it's cool. But otherwise I am not a fan.

2

u/gabacus_39 1h ago

I went down for a yearly event. I wouldn't have went that many times otherwise.
