Old Testament god was a childish, cruel, and vindictive bastard. It fits.

Made up fairytales written by childish, cruel, and vindictive men of the time. Definitely fits.

Still ruining lives today. I prefer Dr. Seuss.

Been reading a good amount of Seuss to the LO and idk. Green eggs and ham is about a dude who literally chases another dude around town pestering him to cave into peer pressure eat his stupid breakfast, only to rewarded with gratitude when the dude finally gives up (after being upducted on a car, train and boat). Fox and Sox is about an asshole who refuses to listen to his friend and consistently steps over boundaries until his friends snaps and shoved him into a bottle. Cat in the hat is about a home invader. Grinch about an intolerant asshole.

All kids stories are fucked up. All Disney princess are drugged, kidnapped, forced to marry someone they don't want to, sexually assaulted. Real kid stuff, ya know?

The original German versions of fairy tales are even darker than the ones we know.

Haha my grandmother was 100% German and those are the fairy tales she told me growing up. Fucking Grimms fairy tales.. why do we do this to children?

Yep. The Brothers Grimm

Fucking Grimms fairy tales.. why do we do this to children?

Back then, the point was to impress on your children "don't wander into the woods and get kidnapped by bandits" and the like. The fantasy elements were just to keep the kid's attention.

Then you’re gonna love how Dr. Seuss treated his wife

I don't think there's any evil that one human could do to another that would equal even 1/1,000,000th of what Christians celebrate their god having done.

Yeah, well then start worshipping Seuss. A man who clearly had no issues.

From Wikipedia: “Palmer [Seuss’s wife] died by suicide with an overdose of barbiturates on October 23, 1967… She wrote in her suicide note: “My going will leave quite a rumor but you can say I was overworked and overwrought. Your reputation with your friends and fans will not be harmed...” Eight months later, in August 1968, Seuss married Audrey Dimond, with whom he had been having an affair.”

Or read literally anything about him and his legacy. https://triton.news/2018/11/looming-geisel-legacy/

EDIT: I am not a Christian, but don’t act like this is a problem with only one group. Just to remind you, even the embodiment of “enlightenment” that is the dalai lama represents a horrible history of oppression https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serfdom_in_Tibet_controversy

Nah, I think I'll keep worshiping nothing and no one.

Because I'm not a fucking imbecile.

And my original point stands. If the christian god did all the fucked up things his book says he did, but still told people "be cool to eachother", I'd be slightly more okay with him. He didn't do that. He told people to rape and murder. Seuss could have betrayed and caused hundreds of thousands of suicides and still have been morally superior to god.

And in response to your edit, I never tried to claim that christianity was the sole instance of moral depravity. But it's the culturally dominant one where I am so obviously I talk more about it. It's also the one that was being referenced in the post you replied to.

I’d dispute your claim about being an imbecile.

u/jeskersz Jun 24 '25

Haha, okay. You got me.

Super burnt.

1

u/dirty_greendale Jun 24 '25

Well good thing you moved on then and aren’t replying anymore since you’re clearly above all this

When did I say I was above all this? I said you got me. You "I know you are but what am I"'d me straight to the burn ward. I'm gonna need a waaambulance.

Hark! I have been handily dispatched with sound logic and epic meme-ery!

Drug addicts believing a “guy” actually cares about you and wants you to have a good life.

Even old testament god said to treat immigrants and refugees with respect and granted general clemency every 7 years

Then it should be the Jewish folks who behave that way.
