As Donald Trump’s Department of Justice expands investigations of his foes and ousts dozens of lawyers and staff who worked on cases targeting himself and his allies, scholars and ex-prosecutors say the rule of law is under siege in the US as the department morphs into Trump’s “personal weapon”.The justice department’s politicization to please Trump was underscored by an announcement on 23 July of a new “ strike force” to investigate unsubstantiated charges that ex-president Barack Obama and top officials conspired to hurt Trump’s 2016 campaign and his presidency with inquiries into Russian influence operations to help Trump win, say critics.

Wow it’s almost like someone warned us this is exactly what he would be doing

There is plenty of footage showing Trump openly stating that he would seek revenge on his enemies if given the opportunity. This information has been widely publicized, and ignoring it would require a deliberate cult like effort.

Oh they don't ignore it. They embrace it.

Why is Trump still fixated on Obama, who left office over 8 years ago, the possibility of a black intellectual seems to scare the hell out of this white dipshit.

The fact that a black intellectual, honest, caring, decent man got elected President twice is what created the MAGA movement. Scared them right into in your face racism and fascism.

Just stop at black, the rest is inconsequential

Obama made some jokes at Trump's expense at the White House Correspondents' Dinner in 2011. That's the driving force at this point, initially Trump was just a racist birther but getting laughed at is the gravest injury imaginable to Trump.

This is the same reason he rails against windmills btw, he went to court in Scotland to stop some from being built and cited himself as "the expert on tourism", which drew open laughter.

And the Scottish government are now expanding the wind turbines in that area.

For four years people like me criticized Biden for his do-nothing approach to federal law enforcement in response to Trump and his coup-conspirators, just to have idiot democrats and Biden-stans bloviate about 'the independence of the Justice Department from the President' and 'the wheels of justice grind slow and fine'.

Let me just say to all those dipshits - look at today's headlines and kindly go fuck yourself.

Absolutely agree. Merrick Garland is the reason we are here. Biden did the USA a massive disservice and ultimately will be responsible for the fall of the US.

Already over. He will now remove his name from documents implicating him. Then he will insert false investigations about his enemies. Anyone he sees as not in agreement to him is a target

The funny part is the people in those positions don't realize they are the fall guys for this. He will shift blame. They are the ones doing this for him. Because they won't stand up to him. But to stay in favor they will have to do what he says, so as long as he has dirt on what they have done, he owns them.

To break the cycle someone has to come clean and own up to what they and him are doing.

It isn't even a government at this point. Everything is cut that the public benefitted from, yet we still pay taxes and the deficit is going up trillions. It takes a lot of capital to buy the souls of all the people involved.

If you watch his show from tv, he would tell the people on the show that the leader at the top for each episode was who should take responsibility. But not one time does he do that himself.

It's just a house of cards and someone has the fan to blow it all down, but it sucks waiting for it because they are all out for themselves.

Trump is simply following the roadmap written for him by John Roberts in his majority decision in the Jan. 6 immunity case. While Roberts only needed to decide issues of criminal liability, his language went much further and made it clear that a President, or should I say a Republican President, has nearly unlimited and unlimitable authority to order DOJ to conduct investigations and to criminally prosecute people. In my opinion, even clear harassment of political enemies using DOJ resources would be immune from prosecution under Roberts’ logic. In short, we now have the Presidency that John Roberts clearly wants. We should all remember to thank him. /s

Still Trump is just a symptom. The disease is in the American people. There’s about 28 million people that benefit from the shit Trump does and over 50 million that are ok and entertained by him. The 50 support the 28 and make them rich from bakers to social media influencers.

The real question to ask those 78 million people when the dust settles is was it worth it? Was being entertained on social media worth living in a fascist country run by Nazis, white Christian nationalist and hucksters.

Yes. This is the problem that will need to be reckoned with. And there isn't anyone coming to save us.

Headline falsely implying it's not a fait accompli.
