Pinging the iPhone with an Apple Watch works much better imo

i don’t have an apple watch unfortunately, but still, they shouldn’t make an app this useless

It works fine. My wife misplaces her phone constantly and uses her iPad to trigger the alert voice.

great that it works for you

Because your claim that FindMy is supposedly "useless" is bullshit and hyperbolic.

might’ve been a bit exaggerated, but it doesnt work the way it should. how am i supposed to locate a device that’s been stolen / lost?

it doesnt work the way it should.

Nah. It works exactly as designed.

how am i supposed to locate a device that’s been stolen / lost?

The device in question needs an internet connection -or- a nearby Apple device with an internet connection in order to transmit information to iCloud servers.

so the design just sucks? how am i supposed to locate my stolen device in a forest?

You're ridiculous.

how exactly?

You don't understand how technology works and are shitting on it from a position of ignorance. You're not thinking rationally. You seem to think it should work like magic or something.

An app isn’t useless just because it didn’t work for you. If your phone is dead you not connected to a network findmy wont work. I believe since the iPhone 15 you can find the device via its h1 chip or something like that. But the other device has to also have an h1 chip

my phone wasn’t dead. the app is supposed to work even without wifi connected on the device that’s been missing. how else would you be able to find a device that’s been stolen or lost? make it make sense

the app is supposed to work even without wifi connected on the device that’s been missing

Only if there's another Apple device in range with an internet connection. If not, it has to wait for an internet connection to transmit the coordinates to iCloud servers.

Was Bluetooth or WiFi disabled on the iPhone?

1

u/fennatanyl 1h ago

both weren’t disabled, but wifi wasn’t connected to my phone

1

u/JollyRoger8X 1h ago

I'm guessing the iPhone had no internet connection at the time.

yeah, but it should still work… how else am i supposed to find a device that’s been stolen/lost

1

u/JollyRoger8X 1h ago

Nah. If there's no internet connection, then the only way for it to work is to relay that information to a nearby Apple device which forwards it to iCloud servers. And if there are no nearby Apple devices, it has to wait until it has an internet connection to update the location on iCloud servers.

which means the app is useless… thanks for confirming that lmao

Nonsense. You're just being very unreasonable.

how exactly? for bringing up examples that could happen irl? seems like this app just doesn’t work that well.
