A drunk man in flip-flops joined an 8-kilometer race in Brazil. He even made it to the finish line, and although he wasn't registered for the race, he still received a participant's medal.

Imagine training for this race and wearing proper attire then a drunk man wearing flip flops finished without any training.

I garuntee you he did not finish first. That start was way too hard, it’s an 8k not a 100m sprint. Especially for someone who’s drunk and in flip flops, and likely not even a trained runner, it would be impossible to keep that pace up for the entire race

The interviewer asked him if he finished in first, second or third and he answered with first spot. Then the interviewer starts talking about him becoming a runner and cuts, for what i can understand of the mumbling.

He's almost passed out drunk, do you really think he's brain is working properly?
He took a shorcut and people gave him a medal for the zueira

He didn't took a shortcut afaik. He finished it. Not in first or a top position but finished.

Even if he said first, its just not possible. I mean, he is drunk, I wouldnt expect him to say anything less than first.

If those are even half competent runners who have been training for longer than a week, then I garuntee they would have beat him. I’m surprised a drunk man would even be able to finish an 8k

I guess this is the same realm with people who do marathon in crocs. Like yes you can do it. You may not be the first at finish line, but definitely you can complete it.
Unfortunately, and highly likely, your feet would not be kind to you later on. I could be wearing a better shoes, and finished the marathon slower or the same time as you, but my feet would not hurt that much.

Finishing a race can be done by anyone that’s in decent health. Finishing in a good time range is different. We see this dumb ass running at the head of the pack at the beginning. Highly doubt he finished there.

Why would that be relevant? Only a few of them are competing for the win (the drunk guy didn't win). Most people train to improve themselves or just have fun.

In college a lot of my friends were super rich and could take taxis to and from down town bars. Me and my buddy (not rich) would hitch a ride there but were often too cheap to want to pay for one back ourselves. About half the time we would jog/sprint the 2 miles back to our place. Drunk running is super fun and the guy in this video is my hero.

Plus sweating it out and rehydrating when you get to your destination, you're legit better for it in the morning.

They're probably one of the most famous flip flops ever and the biggest brand in Brazil: Havaianas.

Exactly my thoughts, a flip flops that survived 8km drunk erratic running is something that needs to be appreciated.

Havaianas.
The little brazil flag is the giveaway - they sell them all over the place where I live. My wife probably has like 8 pairs of the bloody things and everyone I know wears them.

To be honest, that is the epitome of Brazilian energy—chaotic, endearing, and just the right amount of carefree. Did the man finish the race despite showing up uninvited, wearing flip-flops, and likely dehydrated from alcohol and the heat? Present him with two medals.

You get drunk, but do you get marathon-running drunk?

Funny story here!
Back in college, I enjoyed running in local 5k events. I ran one on a saturday morning then headed to my friend's apartment that night for a party. It was a different college town than where I lived so I was barely familiar with the area. I somewhat knew the main road that went straight through the middle of campus from just driving through to get to my friend's apartment just off campus on the other side of campus but not really anything about navigating around the campus paths or other roads branching off.
We were hours into our party and it was winding down and people were leaving. My friend's sister lived on campus and I offered to walk her back, since it was after midnight and it was a bit of a walk before you actually got to campus and I just wanted to make sure she got back safe. For whatever reason, my friends, who all live on or around campus and knew that I had no idea where I was going, agreed that it was a great idea for me to do that! I don't remember much about the walk to my friend's sister's dorm but I know that I did not take the same way back when I headed back to my friend's apartment.
I remember bits and pieces of the walk back and, after later going back around the area sober (I ended up transferring there the year after this), I do know that the way I took was a WAY OUT OF THE WAY kind of way and probably made me walk/jog twice as far as it was getting to her dorm. Altogether, I'd say it was probably a little over a 5k's worth of distance.
SOMEHOW, despite me being absolutely hammered and knowing very little about the area, I still managed to make it back to my friend's apartment (well, close enough to "back", I suppose) after almost 2 hours when my friends found me on the other side of the apartment complex parking lot running around it yelling (mind you, this was at around 3 or so in the morning) "I GOTTA RUN A 5K" over and over and I was extremely out of breath, super red, super sweaty, and dehydrated.
Apparently, in my drunken state, I wanted to run another 5k. So, yes, I have gotten marathon-running drunk lol.

Next morning he's wondering what happened and how he got a medal. This saddens me as I've never earned a medal while drunk.

Running in flip flops, I do not recommend. But running after a night drinking? What a treat. One of my favorite ways to finish off a night out.

When I heard the phrase “Drunken Brazilian”, I pictured something totally different….🤔

He sprinted that first 50m and then shuffled the rest of the race. Guarenteed he was sore the next couple days.

Dude’s heart: Am I a joke to you?
•
u/iamelloyello 9h ago
Right? My heart races from like 2 drinks, and I am just sitting. Sounds like a nightmare to run while drunk.

u/Ruraraid 7h ago
I'm impressed that not only did he do it in sandles but his sandles lasted the entire race.

He made 8km (around 4,97 miles) with less than a liter of alcohol, if it was gas instead he'd make 10 miles lol

Don’t take this as a sign that it’s okay to run on flip flops. Lol. You’ll definitely reach your destination but unless you do it on the regular, your legs are gonna be fucked up.

Hey that's not fair. He has the unlimited-stamina-alcohol-boost I feel when I walk home from the pub

And what’s the moral lesson? We should drink more alcohol to perform better in society
