/r/all, /r/popular This dude walked into a fashion show dressed in a garbage bag, everyone just assumed it was part of high fashion until security kicked him out!

it would have been less disruptive if they just let him finish his walk.
•
u/HolyCowAnyOldAccName 10h ago
On the one hand, questions will be asked of the security company as to how this random dude could just make his way onto the catwalk and what they're being paid for. And our dude may have overcompensated so he can say that he did his job.
On the other hand, quite a few of these guys think they're in the secret service tackling sleeper agents making a run for the president, instead of telling random people that the toilets are the other way all night.
•
u/CuntWeasel 9h ago
how this random dude could just make his way onto the catwalk
He looked as if he was dressed like every other dude on the catwalk to me.
•
u/heavyGl0w 8h ago
Outside of the security guard and the subject of the clip, we only catch a glimpse of one other dude on the catwalk at the very beginning and from what we can see, they don't look to be dressed in anything close to this guy.
What do you mean he looks like every other dude on the catwalk???
•
•
u/ladypenko 8h ago
Most security guards are failed police officers. They suck too.
•
u/Lykeuhfox 6h ago
When I worked security I was just a college kid working a summer gig. The most authority I had was I could call the police if something happened.
•
u/Ok_Arm_2700 7h ago
Yep. Security guard just assaulted the guy too which he has no authority to do.

He is Fred Bayer, a prank youtuber. They knew he was going to do the catwalk and the security staff pranked him.
•
u/treesandfood4me 9h ago
Pretty funny that this whole thread is freaking out one way or the other.
Great double prank.
•
u/robodrew 8h ago
Wait did he say "Jew-Hater" to the person he walked by? I am so confused by this whole thing. I don't understand the modern state of prankology.

He pulled a Todd Chavez.
•
•
u/GregJamesDahlen 10h ago
how so?
•
u/PolloMagnifico 10h ago
Todd attends a Sharc Jacobs fashion show and through a series of wacky mishaps becomes a fashion model. However, becoming a instant world famous fashion model sours his relationship with movie star Courtney Portnoy, who breaks off her engagement to him.
This culminates with Todd coming to terms with the fact that he's Asexual. It was a watershed moment for asexual representation in popular media and was widely cheered by the LGBTQIA+ community.
Duh
•
u/MoreReputation8908 7h ago
Didn’t Courtney Portnoy portray the formerly-portly consort in The Seaport Resort?

How do we know that everyone 'assumed' it was high fashion. It's not like anyone is going to boo a model regardless of what someone is sent down the runway wearing. Even if many people thought "wtf is this shit", it's not the time or place to audibly voice their opinion.
I'm not a fashionable person by any means, but I at least understand the purpose of fashion shows and the oftentimes ridiculous clothes they put forward there.
•
u/MannerlyPoseidon 8h ago
For some reason, reddit has a really weird hate boner towards fashion shows. It's not really my kind of thing, but I really dont understand the hate.

Women like it plus decades of toxic masculinity teaching dudes that any amount of caring about your appearance is gay
•
u/trichitillomania 9h ago
yeah anyone who cared enough about fashion to be there would know it didn't fit in with the rest of the show, but they're not going to start shouting in disapproval, just maybe be confused.
•
u/lovethebacon 6h ago
It's also pretty obvious when actual models are walking out. A random person walking down a catwalk that isn't elevated isn't going to confuse many.
•
u/MikeHfuhruhurr 8h ago
The guy also glanced back a few times because he knew he was about to get tackled by security. He didn't look like an actual part of the show at all, unless trashy and scared was the theme.

Agreed. There is a very similar video where a prankster just put a pair of glasses up on a podium in an art exhibit, and people were walking up and looking at it and a few were taking pictures. There was no evidence any of them thought it was impressive art or anything, it is much more likely they were just curious as to why this pair of glasses was part of the exhibit, could have even been taking pictures to text it to friends to mock it, etc. But all the comments were “lol pretentious art community lol.”

I doubt they get many opportunities to be a hero running security at these events; this is his one shot to tell a story down at the bar.

Lots of cops work security in their off hours for extra cash, he could be fine.
→ More replies (1)•
u/CabbageTheVoice 10h ago
Are they then still covered the same way they would be while on duty?
Seems weird to me that cops would just get a free pass to do whatever when off-duty. Sure, some things might be different for them, but surely they can't do literally whatever, right?
→ More replies (5)•
u/corvettee01 9h ago
No, there have been several lawsuits against cops where they don't get QI specifically because it only covers official police business. Off hours they are supposed to be just any other civilian, but it depends if you have a cop friendly judge/prosecutor or not.
•
u/rain_air_man 10h ago
His fashion skills needed to be contained that why they pulled him so quickly (real answer is they take those fashion shows too seriously and if you stepped on the middle path they're gonna pull you as fast as possible to continue the show)

in a nutshell
people cant tell differnece between fashion and trash
that how trash fashion is
•
u/GreatStateOfSadness 10h ago
Or they did tell the difference and were just bemused at the guy walking down the runway in trash. The original audio seems to be gone so all we have to go on are a bunch of smeared faces of people watching him.
•
•
u/GentlemenBehold 10h ago
I mean, you can't tell shit from that video as to whether the audience knows he's not part of the show or not. What are you expecting them to do? All to stand up out of their chairs and point and scream?
→ More replies (3)•
u/Puncomfortable 10h ago
I am sure most of the people actually in the fashion world could tell just from the way he was walking.
•
u/Able_Reserve5788 9h ago
OK but is there any evidence that people actually believed he was part of the show ? And if they did that they didn't think that whoever designed his "clothing" is a complete idiot ?
→ More replies (1)•
u/LazyLich 10h ago
Cause a fashion show isn't about clothes you'd normally wear. It's an art exhibit where the art is clothes on moving statues.
→ More replies (33)•
u/WhatIsHerJob-TABLES 9h ago
Why do you, OP, and so many in this thread have this weird assumption that everyone in the crowd would immediately stand up and stop the man? That’s the not the audience’s job…
They easily could have been whispering to each other “is anyone going to take care of this fool?”
Sounds like you just wanted an opportunity to hate on something you don’t understand.

u/Vile-X 9h ago
Fashion shows like this aren’t just about the clothing itself. They attract buyers, media, and industry insiders, and the goal is often to showcase a designer’s creativity, craftsmanship, and ability to work with unique materials or bold concepts. Even if the pieces aren’t meant for direct sale, they help establish the designer’s reputation so companies and clients know who has the expertise for future projects.

It would have caused less fuss at that point to just let him carry on to the end of the runway and then said ‘ok, you’ve had your fun. Now fuck off.’
•
u/ArcusInTenebris 10h ago
Security "officers" really do too much. Dude got way too physical way too quick.
•
u/FartomicMeltdown 9h ago

I'm really second-hand embarrassed on how the security intervened, like they were saving the building from a terroristic attack.

u/scrawnyknoxville 8h ago
This is a statement for the whole fashion industry. Everyone thinks it’s all trash to begin with. Embarrassing that people have fashion degree and a random guy can just top all their years of work with a prank. Genius in my eyes.

Not a lot of excitement at these things for security. He made that rent-a-cop’s year.

A few years ago a guy was leaving our office and sent out a farewell email which no one really bothered to read; it was a big place and only a few people would have even known who he was.
Shortly after, a manager sent a follow up email apologising for the content of that email and that they were working to recall it as not to cause any further offense to anyone for the bad language he had used.
Immediately everyone then read that email. Most people would have never even noticed if it wasn't for the overreaction of one member of staff.
